Abstract

Coronary Heart Disease is an atherosclerotic disease of an inflammatory nature, manifested by stable angina, unstable angina, myocardial infarction (MI), or sudden cardiac death. Symptoms that can arise from Coronary Heart Disease include chest pain, shortness of breath, heart attacks, changes in heart rate, nausea and extreme fatigue. The aim of community service is to evaluate and find the causes of health problems related to heart disease such as chest pain, fatigue, difficulty breathing and dizziness. Know the heart rhythm so you can detect if there is an irregular heart rhythm. The methods used in community service are health education and early detection of coronary heart disease by examining ECG (Electrocardiogram) records. The results of examination of ECG records from 15 residents, 3 people had normal ECG rhythms and 13 people had abnormal ECG rhythms with varying abnormalities. The conclusion is that there are still several risk factors in the group that need to be evaluated, such as smoking, diabetes mellitus, physical activity, family history and blood cholesterol levels.

Abstract

The increasing number of environmentally-related infectious diseases and low handwashing habits are serious problems in densely populated communities. Furthermore, the use of readily available local herbal ingredients such as lemongrass, aloe vera, and pandan leaves has not been maximized as a source of income for the community. This community service activity aims to improve community skills and knowledge through training in making safe, hygienic, and economically valuable herbal hand soap. The training was conducted with 45 housewives and Family Welfare Movement (PKK) cadres in Village X. The implementation method included health education on Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors (PHBS), herbal soap-making demonstrations, group practice, production assistance, and pre- and post-training knowledge evaluations. The results showed a significant increase in participants' knowledge about the benefits of herbal plants, hand hygiene, and soap-making techniques. The average knowledge score increased from 56.7 to 88.4 in the post-test. Furthermore, 93% of participants were able to make soap independently and expressed interest in turning it into a business product. This activity effectively improved economic skills while supporting clean living behaviors through the use of herbal soap.

Abstract

Accidents can occur at any time and in any environment, so communities need basic skills in providing First Aid (P3K) to prevent the victim's condition from worsening. This Community Service (PKM) program aims to improve community knowledge, skills, and preparedness in handling emergencies through training, outreach, demonstrations, and field simulations. The program was conducted among residents of XX neighborhoods with 20 participants. Results showed a 20% increase in participants' understanding of First Aid principles and improved practical skills such as stopping bleeding, treating choking, splinting fractures, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). This activity successfully created a more responsive, alert, and empowered community in dealing with emergency situations.

Abstract

Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA) are plants with medicinal properties and are cultivated in home gardens as a form of community self-reliance in maintaining health and preventing disease. The lack of public knowledge regarding the types of TOGA, their processing methods, and their uses is a key reason for implementing this community service program. This activity aims to increase community knowledge and skills regarding the use of TOGA as a preventative measure against various common diseases. The program was implemented among 45 families in Suka Jaya Village through outreach, demonstrations, TOGA planting practices, and mentoring in the preparation of simple herbal concoctions. Evaluation was conducted using pre- and post-tests, practical observations, and interviews. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in community knowledge, from an average score of 52.6 to 88.4 after the education. Eighty-five percent of participants were able to practice TOGA planting, and 78% made simple concoctions such as warm ginger, tamarind turmeric, and lemongrass tea. The community considered the program very beneficial and wanted similar activities to continue regularly. This program can increase community awareness and self-reliance in maintaining health. The use of traditional medicinal plants (TOGA) is considered effective as a disease prevention measure and supports a healthy, natural, and affordable lifestyle. This initiative is recommended for implementation in other regions and further development through further training.

Abstract

Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) in elementary school children is an important factor in preventing infectious diseases, such as diarrhea and respiratory infections. However, many students still do not practice handwashing correctly and regularly. This community service program aims to improve PHBS behavior through education and demonstrations of handwashing with soap in elementary schools. Activities included interactive counseling, six-step handwashing demonstrations, hands-on practice by students, and knowledge and skills assessments. The results showed a significant increase in students' knowledge of PHBS and their ability to practice proper handwashing. This program is expected to reduce the risk of infectious diseases and foster sustainable hygiene habits in schools.

Abstract

Insomnia is a sleep disorder frequently experienced by the elderly and impacts quality of life, physical health, and psychological well-being. Treatment of insomnia in the elderly is often hampered by the side effects of long-term use of sleeping pills. Hypnotherapy is a non-pharmacological therapy that can be used to safely and effectively address sleep disorders. This Community Service activity aims to improve the sleep quality of the elderly through the application of simple hypnotherapy. Implementation methods include education about insomnia in the elderly, training in basic hypnotherapy techniques, guided relaxation practice, and evaluation through pre- and post-tests. The results of the activity showed a decrease in insomnia complaints and an improvement in sleep quality in the elderly after participating in hypnotherapy sessions. Hypnotherapy can be an effective and safe alternative complementary therapy for treating insomnia in the elderly.

Abstract

Lung disease is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the community, particularly chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, and lung disorders caused by exposure to air pollution and smoking. Most lung diseases develop slowly and often go undetected in the early stages because symptoms are still mild. Early screening through spirometry is a simple, non-invasive, and effective method for detecting impaired lung function early. This Community Service activity aims to conduct early screening for lung disease through spirometry and raise public awareness of the importance of lung health. Implementation methods include lung health education, spirometry examinations, interpretation of results, and health counseling. The activity results showed the detection of impaired lung function in some participants and increased public knowledge and awareness about early detection of lung disease. Spirometry screening is expected to be a preventive measure in reducing the burden of lung disease in the community.
