Abstract

The integration of Islamic ethics with 21st-century competencies is essential to strengthen the relevance of Islamic religious education in responding to contemporary educational challenges. This study aims to describe the implementation of Islamic ethics and 4C competencies integration in PAI learning. A mixed-methods sequential explanatory design was employed. Quantitative data were collected through a four-point Likert-scale questionnaire administered to 24 students to measure five integrated indicators, namely, critical thinking based on Islamic justice, creativity with value (maslahah), trustworthy collaboration, civilized communication, and ethical decision making, as well as student learning engagement. Qualitative data were obtained through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis involving PAI teachers and selected students. The findings indicate high achievement in trustworthy collaboration and civilized communication, along with a strong linkage between analytical skills and moral principles in critical thinking and ethical decision-making. Creativity with value and affective engagement were relatively lower, suggesting limited innovation and learning variation. The integration of Islamic ethics and 21st-century competencies enhances students’ cognitive, affective, and social development. This study implies the need for project-based learning, interactive media, and broader school–community collaboration to strengthen meaningful and contextual PAI learning.

Abstract

Abstract

The development of digital technology has opened up new opportunities in education management. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is emerging as an innovation that enables significant administrative and human resource (HR) management transformations in educational institutions. Through a literature review method, this article discusses how AI can support educational administrative functions ranging from administrative services, data management, to decision-making while strengthening human resource management, including recruitment, training, and performance. The results show that AI integration enables operational efficiency, transparency, and accuracy, as well as the potential to improve the quality of management and performance of human resources. However, there are serious challenges such as infrastructure readiness, digital literacy, as well as ethical and data privacy aspects. For this reason, a digital roadmap, AI literacy training, and internal policies that support smart and ethical implementation in educational institutions are needed.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) in the moral development of early childhood and identify the methods used, as well as analyze the factors that influence its effectiveness. This research employs a qualitative library research method by collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing relevant literature sources, including books, scientific journals, and official documents related to IRE and early childhood moral development. The results indicate that IRE contributes significantly to children's moral formation through habituation (ta'widiyah), exemplary modeling (uswah hasanah), storytelling (qashash), and reward and punishment approaches. The integration of Islamic values in early childhood education programs has proven effective in instilling honesty, responsibility, empathy, and respect for others. The role of parents, teachers, and the surrounding environment is also decisive in supporting the success of IRE in shaping children's moral character. This study concludes that IRE is not merely religious instruction, but a holistic approach to character building aligned with early childhood education principles and national education goals in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study investigates the service quality of boarding madrasah through the systematic integration of the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) curriculum issued by the Ministry of Religious Affairs with the student guidance management programme at Ma’had Insan Cendikia MTs Negeri 1 Banyumas. Boarding madrasahs confront two simultaneous demands: compliance with national curriculum mandates and the operational management of student residential life. A qualitative approach grounded in interpretive phenomenology was employed, involving nine purposively selected key informants drawn from student, dormitory supervisor, and parent groups. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document review, and were subsequently analysed using thematic analysis. The findings demonstrate that: (1) integrating the PAI curriculum under KMA 183/2019 with the residential curriculum produces a holistic educational model that aligns formal instruction, intensive Qur’anic memorisation (tahfidz), and tiered character development; (2) student guidance management operates through a structured and transparent communication system that fosters triangular collaboration among students, families, and the ma’had; (3) service quality is evidenced by the institution’s capacity to facilitate students’ developmental progress across three sequential phases—initial adjustment, stabilisation, and self-transformation underpinned by consistent family support; and (4) the admission of the first graduating cohort to leading educational institutions validates the effectiveness of this integration model. The study contributes a theoretically grounded triangular-collaboration curriculum model and offers practical recommendations for developing holistic support systems within boarding madrasah settings.

Abstract

This research explores the concept and implementation of inclusive religious education within the framework of a democratic and multicultural society in Indonesia. As a country with diverse religions, ethnicities, and cultures, Indonesia faces both opportunities and challenges in strengthening tolerance through education. Using a qualitative approach with a literature review and case analysis in selected schools, the study examines how inclusive practices are integrated into religious education. The findings reveal that inclusive religious education significantly contributes to fostering tolerant character among students, improving interfaith understanding, and strengthening social harmony. Nevertheless, the study identifies several obstacles, such as limited teacher training in multicultural competence, inadequate teaching resources, and the insufficient integration of democratic values in the curriculum. The paper emphasizes that inclusive religious education will only be effective if supported by a strong policy framework, curriculum reform, and comprehensive teacher preparation. Therefore, this research recommends improvements in curriculum development, teacher education, and government policy to ensure that students are nurtured in an environment that cultivates tolerance, respect, and democratic values in a multicultural context

Abstract

General Background: International migration of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) to Saudi Arabia has evolved into a complex socio-religious phenomenon requiring the maintenance of ethical behavior within a global diaspora context. Specific Background: Within the Wooden Coffee network, Islamic Religious Education (IRE) and a theocratic religious environment are central factors shaping workers’ moral conduct. Knowledge Gap: Previous studies largely focus on migrant contexts in secular societies, leaving limited empirical evidence on how structured religious education functions within a formally Islamic state environment. Aims: This study aims to empirically analyze the relationship between IRE, religious environment, and the ethical behavior of PMI. Results: Using a causal-associative quantitative approach with 100 respondents and multiple linear regression analysis, findings show that both IRE and the religious environment significantly contribute to ethical behavior (Beta = 0.451; p < 0.05), with IRE emerging as the dominant factor through structured internal reinforcement compared to external social influences. Novelty: The study integrates diaspora Islamic education with a theocratic context, highlighting the interaction between internal cognitive reinforcement and external social conditioning within a behaviorism framework. Implications: The findings underline the importance of structured religious curricula and supportive workplace environments in fostering professional ethics among migrant workers, contributing to SDG 4 on inclusive and quality education for marginalized diaspora communities. Highlights• Internalized religious learning provides stronger ethical control than workplace social pressure• Theocratic environment supports but does not surpass structured educational reinforcement• Combined cognitive and social conditioning explains professional conduct patterns KeywordsIslamic Education; Religious Environment; Migrant Workers; Ethical Behavior; Diaspora

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI) is mandatory in Indonesia's national curriculum, yet how it shapes academic achievement and motivation remains poorly understood. This systematic review synthesises the pedagogical strategies and mediating factors through which PAI influences these outcomes among Indonesian learners. Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, we searched Scopus, Web of Science, ERIC, and Garuda for peer-reviewed studies published January 2015 and April 2026; of 312 records, 47 met inclusion criteria after dual independent screening (Cohen's κ = 0.84), with quality appraised using CASP and MMAT and findings synthesised through Braun and Clarke's reflexive thematic analysis. Three mechanisms emerged: intrinsic motivation grounded in religious meaning-making (thalabul 'ilm), non-cognitive competencies cultivated through character-based instruction, and academic identity formed through value internalisation. The review grounds these in a framework linking al-Ghazali's anthropology (nafs, qalb, ruh, 'aql) with Self-Determination Theory and Achievement Goal Theory; the convergence between ikhlas and autonomous motivation is especially productive, as both describe the same inner orientation. Active learning, technology integration, and curricular coherence amplified these mechanisms; teacher quality and institutional leadership moderated their impact on measurable gains. Limitations include restriction to English and Indonesian sources, a ten-year window that underweights foundational work, and the inability to estimate effect sizes. Future meta-analyses, longitudinal studies, and multilingual reviews would address each of these. When pedagogically rigorous and institutionally supported, PAI is a meaningful driver of academic outcomes, not merely a doctrinal subject at the margins of the curriculum, but rather a framework for reform grounded in the Islamic ideal of insan kamil.

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of early marriage, commonly associated with social pressures transmitted through family expectations, community norms, and media discourse, which may also affect urban women, including civil servants in the education sector. Such pressures are often linked to vulnerabilities in domestic relationships, including potential verbal and non-verbal violence. Using a qualitative-descriptive literature review, this research systematically analyzes relevant academic sources to explore the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) values in shaping the personality of ṣāliḥah women as a form of psychosocial competence. The analysis focuses on three key themes: (1) the transmission of social norms from rural to urban contexts, (2) the conceptualization of ṣāliḥah women as encompassing emotional regulation, assertive communication, rights awareness, and coping strategies, and (3) the relationship between the internalization of PAI values and family relationship quality. The findings suggest that the internalization of religious values extends beyond normative dimensions, functioning as a psychosocial resource with the potential to act as a protective factor against social pressures and unhealthy domestic dynamics. However, this relationship remains conceptual and context-dependent. This study contributes by proposing a conceptual model positioning the ṣāliḥah construct as a psychosocial competence linking PAI value internalization to household harmony through self-regulation and adaptive social interaction. A key limitation is the absence of empirical validation due to its reliance on literature-based analysis.
