Abstract

Background: HIV/AIDS is one of the sexually transmitted diseases that is still high in the world. As many as 650,000 people died from this disease, around 38.4 million people were living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), by the end of 2021 with 1.5 million people newly infected with HIV. This study aimed to explore the behavior of people with HIV/AIDS based on the theory of planned behavior. Subjects and Method: A qualitative design with a case study approach was conducted at the Jombang District Health Service, Jombang Care Center, and the Kabuh Community Health Center Work Area. A total of 5 key informants, 10 people with HIV/AIDS as main informants, 1 supporting informant were selected purposively and snowballed. Data collection was carried out by interviews, observation, documentation (taking photos and reviewing control cards of people with HIV/AIDS). Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman method. Results: Behavioral intentions are related to the behavior of regular examinations in PLWHA. Attitudes are related to the behavior of regular examinations of PLWHA. Subjective norms are related to the behavior of regular examinations in PLWHA. Perceived behavioral control is related to the behavior of periodic examinations of PLWHA in Jombang Regency, East Java. Conclusion: Informants have high intentions or positive intentions to carry out periodic examinations aimed at maintaining their health so that it is much better. Informants accept and believe that with regular check-ups their body condition and health will be much better. The role of family and peer support groups is stronger than the influence of health workers. All key informants had positive control behavior to carry out examinations at community health centers that were not close to where they lived when the service from health workers was non-discriminatory and provided accurate information.

Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) remains among the top ten global causes of mortality, with approximately 1.3 million deaths annually. Diabetes elevates the risk of active TB and treatment failure, potentially increasing drug-resistant TB (DR-TB). This study aimed to compare treatment success rates between TB patients with and without diabetes mellitus (DM) at Dr. Ramelan Central Naval Hospital, Surabaya.Subjects and Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted from January 2019 to December 2023 at Dr. Ramelan Central Naval Hospital Surabaya. A total of 158 patients with TB-DM and TB-NonDM were selected using total sampling. The independent variables were the Presence of Diabetes Mellitus in TB patients (TB-DM vs. Non-TB-DM). The dependent variable was the treatment success rate. The data were collected from patient medical records and analyzed using a chi-square test to compare treatment outcomes between TB-DM and TB-Non-DM patients. Results: The analysis included 158 medical records. Predominantly affecting those over 45 years, both TB-DM and TB-Non-DM patients commonly underwent six months of treatment, with success rates of 78% in TB-DM and 82.4% in TB-Non-DM cases. The chi-square test yielded a p-value of 0.511, indicating no significant difference in treatment success between the groups. However, older age and HIV-positive status were associated with lower odds of treatment success. Conclusion: Success rates were similar between the groups, showing no significant difference based on DM status. Despite similar success rates, older age and HIV-positive status were associated with lower odds of treatment success.

Abstract

Background: Low back pain (LBP) is one of the health problems experienced by 50–80% of adults. LBP affects individual, physical, social, and psychological aspects. Individuals suffering from LBP require comprehensive treatment to ensure the success of therapy. The study aims to determine the patient's perception of the choice of LBP therapy using the Health Belief Model theory. Subjects and Method: This research was conducted using a cross-sectional study conducted in Surakarta, from September to October 2024. A total of 200 acupuncture patients and physiotherapy patients were selected using fixed disease sampling. The independent variables were vulnerability perception, severity perception, benefit perception, obstacle perception, cues to action perception, self-efficacy. The bound variable is the choice of therapy. The data using questionnaires were analyzed using multiple logistic regression. Results: Perceived susceptibility was less likely to use acupuncture therapy (OR= 0.51; 95% CI= 0.14 to 1.79; p=0.293). Perceived severity was more likely to use acupuncture therapy (OR=3.99; 95% CI= 1.17 to 13.54; p= 0.027). Perceived benefits were more likely to use acupuncture therapy (OR=43.90; 95% CI= 9.45 to 203.99; p<0.001). Perceived barriers were less likely to use acupuncture therapy (OR=0.03; 95% CI p< 0.01 to 0.20; p< 0.001). Cues to action were more likely to use acupuncture therapy (OR=7.10; 95% CI p= 2.20 to 22.91; p< 0.001). High self-efficacy has a greater likelihood of using acupuncture therapy (OR=142.49; 95% CI= 14.17 to 1432.86; p<0.001). Conclusion: The Health Belief Model for the selection of acupuncture therapy increased with the perception of severity, perception of benefits, action signals, and self-efficacy. The choice of acupuncture therapy decreased with a high perception of resistance. Perception of vulnerability was statistically not significantly associated with therapy selection. The independent variables in the model were able to explain the variation in therapy selection (acupuncture vs physiotherapy) by 68.69%.
