Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the quality of AISI 1040 medium carbon steel welds using the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) method with a V-groove through bending tests. The tests were conducted to assess the weld's ability to withstand plastic deformation due to bending loads and the effect of defects on weld integrity. The testing procedure refers to the ASTM E290 and AWS D1.1 standards. Of the seven specimens tested, four of them—Face 3, Root 1, Root 2, and Root 3—passed the test without defects, indicating good fusion between the weld metal and the base metal. Meanwhile, Face 1, Face 2, and Face 4 experienced small cracks in the Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) due to undercut and slag inclusion. The Root 1 specimen recorded the highest maximum load of 16,343.46 N. Overall, the SMAW weld joint with a V groove on AISI 1040 steel showed good flexural strength and met structural feasibility standards.

Abstract

Vocational education success depends heavily on multiple interconnected factors that influence student academic performance. This study examines the influence of motivation, interest, learning readiness, and study facilities on student learning outcomes in Computer and Basic Networking courses at SMK Negeri 2 Sungai Penuh. Research employed a quantitative approach with a causal correlational design, involving 71 students selected through proportional stratified random sampling. Data was collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed through path analysis. Results revealed that all independent variables significantly influence learning outcomes, with interest having the strongest impact (standardized coefficient=0.392, p<0.001), followed by learning readiness (0.366, p<0.001), motivation (0.212, p<0.001), and study facilities (0.056, p<0.05). Collectively, these variables explain 99.4% of the variance in learning outcomes (R²=0.994). The findings highlight the critical role of student interest in technical subjects and emphasize the importance of a holistic approach that addresses both internal factors (motivation, interest, readiness) and external conditions (facilities). These results suggest that vocational schools should prioritize strategies to enhance student interest through interactive learning methods, ensure adequate learning facilities, and develop comprehensive student readiness programs to optimize educational outcomes.

Abstract

Education plays an important role in improving human resources and shaping adaptive character. To address post-pandemic learning challenges, Indonesia introduced the Merdeka Curriculum, emphasizing flexibility and competency development. This study evaluates the Merdeka Curriculum implementation at SMKN 1 Luak, Lima Puluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra, using the CIPP (Contextual, Input, Process, Product) model. The evaluation covers the 2023/2024 academic year, following its introduction in 2022. A mixed-method approach (qualitative and quantitative) was used for data collection through observations, interviews with teachers, students, and administrators, and analysis of relevant curriculum documents. The results indicate that the context aspect (National Education Standards and School-Level Curriculum) is very good (91.11%). The input aspect (teacher qualifications, infrastructure, reference books) is generally good, but there are shortcomings in qualified teachers, reference books, and subject guidelines. The learning process is rated as adequate (77.18%), with challenges in teaching strategies and student engagement. Student learning outcomes were rated as adequate (79.12%), with room for improvement in critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The Merdeka Curriculum positively impacts education quality, but improvements in facilities, teacher training, and motivation are needed to optimize its effectiveness. These findings suggest schools with similar contexts can benefit by focusing on teaching infrastructure and professional development.
