Abstract

The proliferation of political dynasties following Indonesia’s rapid decentralization has precipitated significant scholarly debate regarding democratic consolidation. While existing literature establishes the prevalence of kinship politics, few studies empirically model the temporal durability of these regimes using time-to-event analysis. This study employs a Cox Proportional Hazards Model to analyze the survival rates of 1,024 district heads (bupatis and mayors) across three electoral waves from 2005 to 2024. Data were compiled from the General Elections Commission and the World Bank INDO-DAPOER database, integrating electoral returns, fiscal capacity, and verified kinship ties. Kaplan-Meier estimates and multivariate Cox regressions were utilized to calculate Hazard Ratios for political exit. The analysis reveals that dynastic incumbents possess a significantly lower hazard of political exit compared to non-dynastic counterparts (Hazard Ratio = 0.68; p < 0.01). Fiscal autonomy acts as a critical moderator; dynasties in regions with high own-source revenue exhibit extended survival times, indicating the effective capture of local patronage networks. Conversely, corruption scandals serve as the primary accelerant of regime collapse. In conclusion, local dynasties in Indonesia utilize decentralized fiscal structures to insulate themselves from electoral competition, suggesting that high local fiscal autonomy inadvertently entrenches familial rule.

Abstract

The practice of gift-giving during marriage celebrations has long served as an expression of social solidarity deeply embedded within the Madurese Muslim community. However, evolving social, economic, and cultural dynamics have driven a significant shift in the values underpinning this practice, particularly in the context of the ompangan tradition. Critical studies examining the transformation of this tradition—from a voluntary act of giving to a reciprocal obligation accompanied by social sanctions—remain scarce. This article seeks to address this gap by exploring the shifting values within the ompangan tradition among the Madurese Muslim community in Sui Kakap Subdistrict through empirical research employing a socio-legal approach. Data collection was conducted through participant observation and structured interviews with seven key informants. The findings indicate that the ompangan tradition has undergone a transformation from an affective and tradition-based social act into one characterized by rational-instrumental actions. This transformation is marked by systematic record-keeping, rigid expectations of repayment, and the imposition of social sanctions through stigmatization. Normatively, the practice of ompangan has shifted from being understood as a hibah (gift) to resembling a qarḍ (loan) due to the community’s heightened expectations of repayment. The article argues that the process of adatisation of transactional norms, which blurs the boundaries between social solidarity and economic relations, carries significant implications for the intensification of social inequalities and symbolic segregation within the community. Consequently, this study recommends strengthening customary law frameworks that are more adaptive and participatory to redirect the transformation of ompangan practices toward the principles of mutual assistance in line with the objectives of Islamic law (maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah) within the context of Islamic marriage celebrations.

Abstract

The influence of pedagogical and professional competence on teacher performance through innovation in economics learning as a moderating variable in senior high schools in Makassar City. This study used a quantitative approach with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to test the causal relationship between variables. The results showed that professional competence had the greatest influence on learning innovation and teacher performance, followed by pedagogical competence. Learning innovation acted as a moderating variable that strengthened the influence of teacher competence on performance, although its contribution was relatively small. These results emphasize the importance of developing teacher competence in improving performance in senior high schools in Makassar City. There was a positive relationship between pedagogical and professional competence and teacher performance, and learning innovation as a moderating variable that influenced teacher performance. These findings emphasize the need for increased training and competency development for teachers to be able to innovate in learning. In addition, increasing learning innovation can be an effective strategy in improving student motivation and learning outcomes. This study provides important implications for educational policymakers to support the continuous strengthening of teacher competence. Thus, the development of competence and innovation in economics learning needs to be a top priority in efforts to improve the quality of education in senior high schools in Makassar City.
THE DISTINCTION BETWEEN DIVINE SPEECH (KALĀM ILĀHĪ), REVELATION (WAḤY), AND RISĀLAH IN THE THOUGHT OF MANNA AL-QAṬṬĀN: A Study on the Essence, Position, and Authority of the Qur'ān: DISTINGSI KALAM ILAHI, WAHYU DAN RISĀLAH DALAM PEMIKIRAN MANNA AL-QATTĀN: Kajian atas Hakikat, Kedudukan, Otoritas Al-Qur’an Azizah, Putri Azizah Rustan; Andi Miswar; Muhammad Hasan

Abstract

This article examines the distinction between revelation (waḥy), divine speech (kalām ilāhī), and risālah in the perspective of Manna al-Qattan, highlighting the problem of fragmented readings in Qur’anic studies. The separation of these three concepts often produces epistemological bias, leading to the reduction of the Qur’an’s authority. This study aims to reconstruct the structural relationship between revelation as a communicative mechanism, divine speech as the substance of truth, and risālah as its social manifestation within an integrated framework. This research employs a library-based method with a descriptive-analytical approach, drawing on classical and contemporary sources, with particular focus on Mabāḥith fī ‘Ulūm al-Qur’ān. The findings reveal that al-Qattan bridges revelation and divine speech through the concept of tanzīl, understood as the process by which transcendent divine speech becomes communicative revelation. The study argues that revelation, divine speech, and risālah form an inseparable system that cannot be adequately understood in isolation. Accordingly, the Qur’an is positioned as the concrete manifestation of divine speech with supreme authority. The contribution of this research lies in reconstructing an integrative conceptual framework within Qur’anic studies while challenging the prevailing fragmentary approaches that obscure the fundamental relationship between these key concepts.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of positive psychological capital and growth mindset on individual well-being and educational consumption expenditure patterns in farming households in Selayar Islands Regency, both through direct and indirect influences. This study used a quantitative approach with a causal-associative design. The study population included farmers in Bontomanai, Benteng, and Buki Districts, with the sample determined through purposive sampling technique based on the criteria of farming households with school-age children. Data collection was conducted using a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire, while data analysis was conducted using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method. The results showed that positive psychological capital and growth mindset had a positive and significant effect on individual well-being and household educational consumption expenditure patterns. In addition, individual well-being was proven to have a significant effect on educational consumption expenditure patterns and acted as a mediating variable in the relationship between positive psychological capital and growth mindset and educational consumption expenditure patterns. These findings confirm that strengthening the psychological aspects of farming families plays a crucial role in improving individual well-being and supporting the sustainability of educational investment amidst economic constraints.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of platform-mediated gig work in the Global South has intensified debate over whether digital labor constitutes economic liberation or structured precarity. This study examined the structural associations among algorithmic management, financial precarity, perceived autonomy, subjective well-being, and job satisfaction among Indonesian gig workers, anchored in the job demands-resources (JD-R) framework. This investigation represents the first large-scale PLS-SEM analysis to delineate the financial precarity pathway within Indonesia's on-demand economy, addressing a critical gap in the Global South platform labor literature. A cross-sectional quantitative design was employed, with data collected from 684 motorcycle taxi and courier drivers across Jakarta, Surabaya, and Medan between March and May 2024 using stratified random sampling. Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with 5,000-subsample bootstrapping was applied via SmartPLS 4.0. Common method bias was assessed using Harman's single factor test (variance explained = 28.4%, below the 50% threshold). Measurement model assessment confirmed strong reliability (rho_A range: 0.847–0.928; AVE range: 0.688–0.810). Structural analysis revealed that algorithmic management was significantly positively associated with financial precarity (β = 0.642, p < 0.001) and negatively associated with subjective well-being (β = −0.210, p < 0.001). Financial precarity mediated this relationship (indirect β = −0.328, 95% CI [−0.392, −0.265], p < 0.001), constituting partial mediation. Perceived autonomy was positively associated with job satisfaction (β = 0.315, p < 0.001). In conclusion, algorithmic management in Indonesia's on-demand economy operates primarily through financial fragility to suppress worker well-being. These findings support urgent regulatory reform mandating algorithmic transparency and minimum income protection floors for platform workers.
