Abstract

Each plant species has a different response to the light intensity. Some species need shade in the early growth, and there are species did not require shade in the early growth. Mangrove degradation have been occurred for recent years, rehabilition program  therefore are needed for reforestation. The reforestation needs a superior and qualified seeds for the best growth. This study focus on S. caseolaris because this fruit species priority consumed by local people in the area of mangrove and for rehabilitation program. The applied research method is Complete Random Sampling, non factorial that consist of  different repetition. The applied analysis method is variance analysis with advanced tesdt by determining the value that influence or not with Dunnet method on confidential level 5% with 4 treatments for light intensity 100%, 75%, 50% and 25%. This research was conducted at Pharmacy Laboratory and Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Forestry of University of Sumatera Utara since July of 2014 to January of  2015. The results of research indicates that the light intensity 50% showed best growth of morphology and polyisoprenoid content is not found in S. caseolaris  because the dried weight is not sufficient for further analysis. Keywords : Light Intensity, Morphology, S. caseolaris

Abstract

Deteriorating of mangrove cause many impacts it deteriorate happen because too many land clearing activities in mangrove for harber, public building, and fishponds. Dergadation of mangrove should immediately resolved, one of them is with rehabilitation in mangrove areas use fungi which are expected to increase growth of plants and can be survive. The research was conducted from June 2014 until January 2015 using Completely Randomized design (CRD). There are 3 types of fungi treatment with five replications. Fungi that use are  A.flavus, A.terreus, and T.harzianum. Application of T. harzianum gave the best result on seedling growth of Ceriops tagal spesies with an average height is 2.68 cm, a diameter is 0,226 cm, leaf area is 89.89 cm2, and total dry weight is 4.02 g. They are  compared with control seeds and the provision of other fungi.   Keywords: Ceriops tagal, fungi, rehabilitation, seedling.

Abstract

The forest is seen as an ecosystem, because forest is formed or composed by many components, each component can not stand on its own, can not be separated, even interplay and interdependence. One component forests have an important role to the availability of nutrient cycling in the forest is humus. Humus is part of the composition of the forest has its own function in maintaining the balance of nature. Without humus, then the forest will lose its function in maintaining the stability of the hydrological cycle and soil nutrient cycling. Accordingly, this research aims to detect differences in the thickness of humus at a distance of  0-500 m of agricultural land society, to determine the distance to the forest by forest communities Dolat Rayat villages, districts of Karo, and determine the impact of forest humus decision on vegetation For seedling and saplings. This research showed that the availability (thickness) humus in Forest Park (TAHURA) bordering agricultural land within the community is varied from 0-500 m and impaired. Withdrawal of forest humus reaches a distance of 250 m, and humus began to stabilize in thickness at a distance of  350 m into the forest. Withdrawal of humus also affects the amount and type of vegetation growing in the forest so that species diversity of an area to be low. In areas that do not damage the forest and humus disturbance to the number of individuals, and higher species diversity. Keywords: Forest Humus, Vegetation, Nutrient Cycle, Agricultural Land, Society

Abstract

Forests and land in the catchment area of Lake Toba, showed a decrease for  quality and quantity of the land. This study aims to determinethe public perception of breadfruit (Artocarpus communis Forst). Research carried out in the catchment area of Lake Toba, Simalungun. Analysing public perception using a questionnaire. Data from the questionnaire were analyzed by descriptive quantitative.  Perceptionis influencedby factors of age, education, livelihood and long lived. Research shows that there is a breadfruit distribution point in Haranggaol. Public perception of the breadfruit (Artocarpus communis Forst) is good. Where 58.41% of the people know and understand the benefits of breadfruit. Keywords: Breadfruit (Artocarpus communis Forst), Distribution of Breadfruit, Community Perception, Forest, Catchment Area

Abstract

his study aimed to analyze the function of land uses contained in Singkohor Sub District 2015. This research was located in Singkohor Sub District,of Aceh Singkil Regency by using satellite images of landsat 8. The research method was a supervised classification. Analysis of the data for the image interpretation by using monogram of Sumatera and ground check.   The results showed that land cover in the District Singkohor include forests, plantations, open land, settlements, water bodies, bush, and farm. The largest land use at the location of the research is the type of open land area of 5491.57 Ha and forest area of 4046.67 Ha was expected to be on the wane due to the conversion of land use into other uses such as plantations. In addition, 14 species of plants obtained MPTS (Multi Purpose Tree Species) among the sites that have the advantage among others, have been tested and able to adapt to the environment so that these types of MPTS plants are more prospective in rehabilitation activities.Key Word: Land use, interpretation, Landsat imagery, plant of MPTS

Abstract

Reforestation is an activity that involves planting or regeneration of trees and other plants in the State forest areas and in other areas in other areas based on land-use plan designated as forest. The purpose of this study was to determine the public perception of the difficulty of successful reforestation activities in the Region Captive Air of Lake Toba. The data is taken from primary and secondary data. Primary data is information collected by reforestation activities in the villages, secondary data collected in the study site general conditions existing at the village government agencies which sampling method was done by purposive sampling ie sampling deliberately chosen. The results showed a lack of socialization in the extension of government reforestation activities, uncontrolled forest fires, lack of maintenance of seed that has been planted, the type of plant is less suitable. Keywords: Reforestation, Catchment area, purposive sampling, education, fire.

Abstract

Forests and land in the catchment area of TobaLake  showed a decrease for  quality and quantity of the land. This study aims to identify the breadfruit seeds (Artocarpus communis Forst) for the growth responseagainst granting additional material to the growing media in the form of water retaining material. This research was conductedinthe Catchment Area of Toba Lake, Simalungun district. The result showed that the interaction of charcoal dose treatment did not significantly affect the mean height increament, diameter, number of leaves, water content, leaf area, and spacious canopy. Keywords: Breadfruit (Artocarpus communis Forst), charcoal

Abstract

This research aims to  know the  best dose  of  fertilizer  (chicken  manure) in the growth of breadfruit as land rehabilitation efforts) in the catchment area of Lake Toba Haranggaol horison district. The method used in this study is a randomized block design (RBD) non factorial with 11 treatments and 4 replications. The parameters used in this study are as height, diameter, number of leaves, leaf area, crown area and leaf water content. The  results  showed the  addition of manure  can  provide  good  growth response to breadfruit plant. In various parameters showed dose of chicken manure 700 and 800 gr give a better effect than the other doses. Analysis of   variance ANOVA showed dose of  chicken manure does not provide significant effect on the growth of breadfruit plant.Key word: critical land, breadfruit, dose of chicken manure, Lake Toba Catchment Area

Abstract

Land use and land cover is an important component in understanding the interaction of human activities with the ENVIronment. Forest management include the planning and supervision in Subulussalam city becomes very importnan to do in oreder to prevent degradation of the forest more severe. The porpose of this study was to quantify land use in 2013. This research methods to  ultilize remote sensing technology and geographical information system (GIS) an interpretation of Landsat-8 OLI/TIRS 2013. Classification results show that the District of Longkib It has 9 land cover classes. The results showed that the land cover is dominated Longkib District of open land.  Action needs structuring ecosystems and prevention in the use of land in the District Longkib. Keywords: land use, land cover, Landsat-8 OLI/TIRS 2013
