Abstract

Effective learning places students at the center of the learning process, where student activeness is key in creating an interactive and collaborative classroom atmosphere. Students' active participation through asking questions, expressing opinions, and cooperating with peers are important indicators of successful learning. However, in Arabic language learning, students often only master language structures without good communication skills. Traditional methods that emphasize memorization are less effective in building communicative language skills. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) method in increasing student activeness at the Imam Ibnu Katsir Islamic Boarding School, Rumbai. This research used a mini-experiment method with three meetings on santriwati madrasah aliyah. The analysis was conducted using qualitative and quantitative approaches. The results showed that CLT was able to increase student activeness, especially in listening and speaking skills. The most active student activities include listening, participating in discussions, and making conversations with a participation rate of 85%. This study concludes that CLT is a very effective method to improve students' activeness and communication skills in Arabic language learning. However, this study has limitations on the number of trials, so further research with more comprehensive data is recommended.

Abstract

Abstract

This research successfully converted spent coffee grounds (SCG) into powdered activated carbon (AC) through carbonization at 400°C. The surface functional groups of this carbon were subsequently modified using hydrochloric acid as an activating agent to enhance its adsorption properties. The purpose of this research was to evaluate the performance of this modified activated carbon (MAC) as an adsorbent for reducing nitrate content in tofu industry wastewater, which is characterized by high concentrations of nitrate ions. The MAC was characterized using SEM and FTIR analysis to determine its surface morphology and functional groups, which are critical for adsorption process of capturing atoms, ions, and molecules on a materials surface. The batch adsorption experiments using AC and MAC as adsorbent were then performed for reducing nitrate content in tofu industry wastewater. Batch adsorption experiments were conducted under optimal conditions: a pH of 7±0.2, room temperature, a stirring rate of 150 rpm, and an adsorbent dose of 1 g/L. The results demonstrated a significant decrease in nitrate concentration from 28.6 mg/L to 1.2 mg/L, achieving a 95.80% removal efficiency at an equilibrium contact time of 180 minutes. The performance of the MAC was comparable to, and even more favorable than, that of unmodified activated carbon (UAC) used as a control that only achieved 58.74% percentage removal of nitrate. This remarkable nitrate removal efficiency is attributed to the distinct morphology and enhanced surface properties imparted by the hydrochloric acid modification. Therefore, modified activated carbon from coffee grounds shows high potential as an effective adsorbent for wastewater treatment.

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic growth disorder caused by prolonged nutritional deficiencies and environmental stress, resulting in reduced height for age. Mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress are increasingly recognized as key contributors to impaired growth and cardiometabolic instability during early development. This study investigated the potential protective effects of Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) and folic acid on insulin signaling and cardiac finction in a rotenone induced stunted zebrafish larval model. A laboratory experimental study with a true experimental post test only controlled group design was conducted among 30 Zebrafish (Danio rerio) for Irs gene expression at 9 day post fertilization (dpf) as samples per tube, heart rate was measured at 3, 6, and 9 dpf. The total group treatment was five with inclusion and exclusion criterias, negative control (NC), positive control exposed to rotenone (12.5 ppb), VCO treatment (6.25%), folic acid treatment (70 µM), and a combination of VCO and folic acid. Variables assessed in this study included heart rate and insulin receptor substrate (Irs) were evaluated using real time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) analysis. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 27 for windows. Rotenone significantly reduced Irs expression compared with negative control (0.272 ± 0.128 vc 1.014 ± 0.187; p<0.001). Treatment with VCO (0.678 ± 0.250), folic acid (0.676 ± 0.191), and their combination (0.695 ±  0.231) increased Irs expression relative to the rotenone group (p<0.05), although no significant differences were observed among the treatment groups. Rotenone also elevated heart rate at 9 dpf (236.9 ± 19.2 bpm) compared with the negative control (163.7 ± 10.1 bpm), whereas treatment groups showed improved cardiac parameters. These findings highlight the potential of nutritional interventions targeting mitochondrial oxidative stress to support recovery of insulin signaling and improve metabolic stability in stunting related conditions.

Abstract

This community service program aims to utilize ammonia gas generated from cow manure waste as a raw material for producing liquid ammonium sulfate fertilizer at UMKM Usaha Tani Sejahtera, Duwet Village, Tumpang District, Malang Regency. The main problem faced by the partner community is the emission of ammonia gas produced during the fermentation of solid organic fertilizer, which has not been properly utilized and causes air pollution. The program provides a solution through technical training and demonstrations of converting ammonia gas by reacting it with sulfuric acid to produce liquid ammonium sulfate fertilizer (ZA). The activities included lectures, interactive discussions, and hands-on practice using a fermentor equipped with a gas absorption system. A participatory approach was implemented to enhance the partner’s knowledge, skills, and awareness of environmentally friendly waste management. The results indicated improved participants’ understanding of the ammonia-to-fertilizer conversion process and the implementation of circular agriculture principles. Participants were able to operate the fermentor independently and produce high-quality liquid fertilizer. This program contributes to reducing air pollution, increasing the economic value of livestock waste, and promoting the zero-waste farming concept to support sustainable agriculture at the UMKM level.

Abstract

Purpose: This study investigates the role of the demographic bonus in shaping economic growth and labor market outcomes in North Kalimantan Province. Specifically, it examines its effects on GRDP, labor force participation rate (LFPR), and open unemployment rate (OUR), while contributing to the limited empirical evidence at the sub-provincial level and offering implications for evidence-based regional policy. Research Design and Methodology: This study employs a quantitative descriptive approach using secondary data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) for the period 2018–2023. The unit of analysis covers regencies and cities in North Kalimantan Province. The study examines one independent variable (demographic bonus) and three dependent variables: gross regional domestic product (GRDP), labor force participation rate (LFPR), and open unemployment rate (OUR). Data analysis techniques include descriptive analysis, sign test, and panel data regression using the Common Effect Model (CEM), Fixed Effect Model (FEM), and Random Effect Model (REM). The best model is selected through Chow, Hausman, and Lagrange Multiplier tests. Classical assumption tests are also conducted to ensure the validity of the model.   Findings and Discussion: The results show that the demographic bonus has a significant effect on gross regional domestic product (GRDP), the labor force participation rate (LFPR), and the open unemployment rate (OUR). Implications: This research indicates the need for government policy strategies in utilizing the demographic bonus to improve the quality of human resources and develop work programs that can absorb labour optimally.
