Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to identify and map the dominant themes in international research on Islamic criminal law through a comprehensive review of Scopus-indexed scholarly publications. Methodology: The study employs a systematic literature review method using data retrieved from the Scopus database. A total of 150 peer-reviewed articles published in reputable international journals were reviewed and classified into three main thematic categories: humanitarian perspectives, the implementation of Islamic criminal law in various countries, and types of Islamic criminal law and punishments. Results: The findings reveal distinct patterns in how Islamic criminal law is conceptualized and implemented across different national contexts. The analysis highlights variations in legal frameworks and forms of punishment, reflecting differences in legal interpretation and the severity of criminal offenses addressed in the literature. Applications/Originality/Value: This study contributes a thematic mapping of Islamic criminal law research, offering a structured overview of the field. The results provide a valuable reference for scholars and policymakers by clarifying research trends, dominant issues, and potential gaps, thereby supporting future research and comparative studies in Islamic criminal law.

Abstract

This study aims to map the developments, trends, and directions of research in the field of Sustainable Finance through a bibliometric approach to scientific publications indexed in the Scopus database in the period 2002–2025. The increasing global attention to sustainability issues and the integration of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects in the financial system make this study important to understand the dynamics and structure of Sustainable Finance research scientifically. Bibliometric analysis was carried out using VOSviewer and Microsoft Excel on bibliographic data which included the number of publications per year, geographical distribution, institutional affiliation, author collaboration, journal sources, and thematic mapping based on keywords. The results of the analysis show a significant increase in the number of Sustainable Finance research publications since 2015, with the peak of the publication trend occurring in the period 2018–2025. Geographically, Malaysia and Indonesia are recorded as the countries with the highest publication contributions. Institutionally, International Islamic University Malaysia was the most prolific affiliate, while authors such as Hassan, M.K. and Zain, N.R.M. emerged as major contributors. In addition, thematic mapping reveals that Islamic finance, sustainable finance, ethical investment, and circular economy are the dominant themes in the Sustainable Finance research landscape. This research makes an original contribution by presenting a comprehensive overview of the structure, collaboration patterns, and thematic development of Sustainable Finance research in the long term. The findings of this research can be used by researchers as a basis for identifying research gaps and future research directions, as well as by policymakers and practitioners as a reference in formulating sustainable financial strategies and policies based on scientific evidence.

Abstract

This study introduces Sharīʿah analytics, a novel methodological framework leveraging machine learning and big data analytics, to systematically analyze classical Islamic jurisprudential texts (furūʿ al-fiqh kitābs), and further assesses cryptocurrencies against the Islamic monetary principles. Sharīʿah analytics is done via computationally processing 55 texts across four Sunni and one Shia legal tradition, examining Arabic currency-related terms and their fundamentals to explain whether cryptocurrencies align with pre-modern juristic definitions rooted in physicality, standardization, and regional acceptance. Findings reveal that cryptocurrencies inherently diverge from classical criteria, e.g., weight-based valuation, intrinsic material purity, and communal consensus, interpreting them non-compliant with traditional Islamic currency frameworks. This approach advances Islamic monetary scholarship, offering a data-driven lens to reconcile ethical monetary principles with emerging digital economies. The study fills a gap in existing literature by systematically contextualizing cryptocurrency debates within primary juristic sources rather than relying on speculative analogies or fragmented scholarly opinions. Abstract

This study explores the development and thematic structure of research on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Islamic education using a bibliometric approach. A total of 234 English-language journal articles indexed in Scopus between 2010 and 2025 were analyzed using a focused keyword strategy combining “Islamic Education” and “Artificial Intelligence.” Bibliometric indicators and visualization techniques were employed to examine publication trends, influential contributors, and thematic patterns. The findings reveal a rapid growth of publications since 2022, with research output dominated by Indonesia and Malaysia. The thematic analysis shows that AI related technological themes occupy a central position, while Islamic educational ethics, epistemology, and institutional dimensions remain marginal. This indicates that AI is largely treated as an instrumental tool rather than a transformative force within Islamic education. The study highlights the need for future research to integrate AI development with the philosophical, ethical, and spiritual foundations of Islamic education.
