Abstract

Bali’s capital city of Denpasar has a number of heritage sites, including several buildings, museums and monuments. These sites have yet to be developed optimally as tourist attractions, as evidenced by their small number of annual visitors. This study explores the potential in reutilizing those cultural heritage sites for the development of heritage tourism, and to support the city government’s tour programme. Two interrelated issues discussed here include how the government of Denpasar preserves its cultural heritage, and how it promotes these sites as heritage tourism. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and a literature review employing heritage tourism theory and framing theory. The study presents two packages of heritage tourism tours with a duration of approximately three hours each: the Denpasar Heritage Track (DHT), which starts and finishes at the Bali Hotel, taking in the Puputan Badung Monument, Bali Museum, Jero Kuta Palace, and Maospait Temple; and the Sanur Heritage Track (SHT), which begins and concludes at the Grand Bali Beach Hotel, visiting the Belanjong Heritage, Intaran Market, Bajra Sandhi Monument, and Museum Le Mayeur. The DHTs are expected to increase the number of tourist attractions in Denpasar, contributing to more tourist visits to Bali, especially in its capital city.

Abstract

This study examines the depiction of the Pura Geger temple and its surrounding areas as a tourist destination, as well as the portrayal of Dang Hyang Nirartha's role as a writer in the Geguritan Rasmi Sancaya. The temple holds significant potential to be developed as a tourist destination, and this research aims to explore how these places are represented in the literary text. Data were collected using qualitative methods, including observation, interviews, and literature study, and were presented descriptively. The study focuses on the literary portrayal of various locations mentioned in Geguritan Rasmi Sancaya, particularly those visited by Dang Hyang Nirartha. The research aims to identify and compare the textual and contextual descriptions of these sites, such as Gunung Payung, Pura Geger, Pura Bias Tugel, and Waterblow Nusa Dua. The findings reveal how these locations are depicted in the text and how this depiction contributes to the understanding of cultural and historical contexts of the area. The implications of this study suggest that literature, particularly Geguritan Rasmi Sancaya, can serve as an important tool for promoting the cultural significance of tourist destinations, offering insights into their historical value while encouraging tourism development.

Abstract

Language functions not only as a medium of communication but also as a site where ideology and power relations are produced and contested. This study examines how patriarchal ideology is both constructed and resisted in Chapter V of Putu Pratiwi’s Melawan Bahasa Patriarki, entitled “Liberation of Women from Patriarchal Language Today.” Drawing on Norman Fairclough’s three-dimensional model of Critical Discourse Analysis, the research analyses the text at the levels of textual features, discursive practice, and socio-cultural practice. Using a qualitative approach, selected excerpts are examined with attention to lexical choices, transitivity, sentence mood (affirmative and imperative constructions), modality, and intertextuality. The findings indicate that patriarchal ideology is embedded in gender-marked vocabulary and epistemic modalities that normalise male-centred perspectives. At the same time, the text constructs resistance through imperative appeals, the redefinition of feminine identity, and the introduction of alternative terminology. Discursively, readers—particularly women—are positioned as active agents of resistance. Socio-culturally, the analysis shows how linguistic practices both reflect and challenge broader patriarchal structures. This study contributes to Critical Discourse Analysis and feminist linguistics by demonstrating how linguistic microstructures interact with social contexts to sustain and resist patriarchal power in contemporary Indonesian discourse.
