Film induced tourism is one of the fastest growing sectors in the tourism industry because cinematographic history is able to persuade the audience to travel to places that are used as the setting places of several scenes in a film. This study aims to examine the message of tourism promotion in a teenager romantic film set in Bandung, West Java, entitled ‘Dilan 1990’ which was adapted from a novel by Pidi Baiq of the same title. The data were collected by observing the film using observation tables, as well as audience reviews obtained through internet searches as a reference in interpreting symbols and knowing the audience's reception of this film. The audience’s reviews were taken from various websites including the Internet Movie Database, TripAdvisor, and from several independent travel blogs articles. The analysis used a qualitative descriptive method using three theories, namely, the theory of semiotics, reception, and promotion. The analysis shows that symbols of tourism promotion in the content of the film ‘Dilan 1990’ included the beautiful and clean city of Bandung, Bandung’s natural scenery, and Bandung’s heritage iconic buildings. The positive images of Bandung city were aesthetically presented on the film through well-structured of plot story, scene, and acting, thus make the promotion of Bandung become indirectly powerful. Abstract

This study aims to obtain an ideal concept structure for the online learning model for the practicum category, especially those related to animation learning with 3-dimensional (3D)-based assets. The research was carried out through methodological steps which included collecting data through literature studies and observing online learning assets, specifically in the practicum category and in the field of multimedia design. The design of the selected learning assets is audio-visual learning assets as the most relevant model for online practicum learning. From the results of tests carried out with the user (student) satisfaction test model, in 4 classes of 3D Animation courses at Institut Bisnis dan Teknologi Indonesia (INSTIKI), it was found that the level of student satisfaction with the implementation of 3D Animation online practicum lectures was in the Average grade. The level of student satisfaction illustrates that the 3D Animation practicum model course with all its shortcomings can still run quite well even though it has not reached the ideal level.

Abstract

Abstract

The development of Indonesian and regional literature in the Archipelago is not only determined by internal conditions but also by external influences. Several years ago in Bali, an anthology of haiku in Balinese was published, which was clearly influenced by the form of haiku, traditional Japanese poetry. This article analyzes Balinese haiku collected in two anthologies, namely Bikul (Mouse, 2014) and Bubu (Fishtrapped, 2015), both by I Ketut Aryawan Kenceng. By applying a qualitative approach, this research data was collected through literature studies and interviews with poets and observers of modern literature in the Balinese language. The data were analyzed using structuralism and semiotic approaches. The results of the study show that Balinese haiku provides a cross-cultural identity (Japanese and Balinese) for modern Balinese literature. The results of this study contribute to our efforts to understand that this hybrid poem strengthens the opinion of scholars who say that Bali is an open fortress, meaning that it remains open to accepting outside influences but firmly maintains its artistic and cultural identity. Keywords: modern Balinese literature, Balinese language, haiku, cross-cultural identity, Japan

Abstract

The development of tourism in Bali with strong socio-cultural influences has inspired Balinese writers to create literary works about the interaction between Balinese people  (hosts) and tourists (guests), both in Indonesian and Balinese language. This study examines how Balinese authors maintain Balinese identity in host-guest interactions  featured in short stories by Balinese writers. The main object of research is the anthology of Balinese short stories Mekel Paris (Madame Paris, 2012) by IBW Keniten because all short stories in this anthology contain stories of interactions between Balinese and foreigners. Data from the short stories and interviews with authors were analyzed qualitatively using a tourism literary approach, an approach that uses anthropological tourism theory of host-guest contact  introduced by Valene Smith. The results showed that there are various forms of host-guest interaction expressed in the Mekel Paris anthology, namely harmonious, conflict, mutualistic, and transactional interactions. Although there are various forms of interaction, all of them have one goal, which is to convey the message so that the Balinese people are not carried away by foreign influences, but are firm in maintaining Balinese identity. In addition to enriching the discussion on how Balinese people maintain their identity, this article also contributes to the development of the study of tourism literature that is growing rapidly in Indonesia.
