Abstract

Yogyakarta Agroecosystem has 158,600 ha of critical land spread over three zones. Two areas are Karst Land, located on Agroecosystem II includes Gunungsewu Hills, Gunungkidul and III covers Dlingo Bantul Hills and Sentolo Hills Kulon Progo Regency.. Karst Land is certainly provides stress to plants. These research purposes are examining the phenotype character of superior melon Cultivar TACAPA compare to parents and offsprings phenotypes. The phenotype characters are based on plant height, leaf number, time of melon flowering, water content of plants, and fruit and seed productivity. This experiment was done by Split Plot Design with Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 kinds of treatment (control plant media, Gunungsewu, Dlingo, and Sentolo), 7 experimental units cultivars: TACAPA, TA, TP, PT, AT, Action 434, PI 371795), and 4 replications. Research result reveals that most of the phenotypic characters including plant height, number of leaves, fruit weight, and number of seeds produced have relatively no significant effect between treatment and control, while the phenotypic first time flowering time and water content of the plant, have a noticeable difference.

Abstract

Sinduadi Village, located in Mlati Subdistrict, Sleman Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia, is home to several active horticultural farmer groups. Among their commodity crops, longan cultivation in Sinduadi Village has faced persistent constraints, particularly low productivity. To address this limitation, a community service program was initiated to introduce a superior local variety, the ‘Sleman’ longan. This cultivar was developed through sustained research and breeding by the Laboratory of Genetics and Breeding, Faculty of Biology, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). Stingless bees, locally known as klanceng bees, play an important role as pollinators in horticultural systems. Integrating longan cultivation with stingless beekeeping as a managed pollination strategy is expected to improve longan productivity and support more sustainable farm management. The program applied a comprehensive capacity building approach, including lectures, extension sessions, hands-on training, and regular monitoring. These activities aimed to strengthen both conceptual understanding and practical competence related to cultivation of the ‘Sleman’ longan variety and stingless beekeeping management. The program resulted in an observable improvement in participants’ knowledge and skills within the Sinduadi Village farming group. Improvements in farmer capacity will be evaluated through continued monitoring of field practices and performance over time. Although short-term gains in yield have not yet been observed, substantial longer-term benefits are anticipated as the plants establish, adapt, and enter stable production. Overall, this knowledge transfer is expected to empower the community to address local agricultural constraints more independently and to promote sustained improvements in livelihood and well-being.

Abstract

Abstract - Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr) is one of the most important food commodity to fulfill the protein necessity in Indonesia. Although Indonesia has many prime soybean seeds, it cannot fulfill the whole need of soybean and always rely on soybean import. This problem can be solved by increasing the quality and productivity of prime soybean seed by polyploidization with colchicine. This research aimed to study ploidy level and phenotype characters of Anjasmoro soybean which was induced by colchicine. The phenotype characters in this research were stomata size, plant height, total pod in one plant, total seed in one plant, weight of 100 seeds, flowering time, and ripening time of soybean. The ploidy level was analyzed with flow cytometry methode. The data was analyzed with one way ANOVA and Duncan test in SPSS 22 program. The result of this research showed that Anjasmoro soybean did not successfully induced by colchicine using concentration 0.01%, 0.02%, 0.025%, 0.05%, 0.075%, 0.1%, 0.15%, 0.2%, and 0.25% with duration of treatment 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, 18, and 24 hours. The treatment with colchicine concentration 0.01% and 0.02% with duration of treatment 10 hours effected the increasing of stomata size, the plant height, and the weight of 100 seeds.Key words : Soybean, polyploidization, colchicine, phenotypeAbstrak - Kedelai (Glycine max (L.) Merr) merupakan salah satu komoditas pangan penting sebagai sumber protein nabati yang kebutuhannya selalu mengalami peningkatan di Indonesia.

Abstract

Longan (Dimocarpus longan L.) is not an indigenous fruit from Indonesia. Thus, the demands for this fruit were supplied by importing them from nearby countries such as Vietnam, Thailand, and China. Longan has been cultivated and developed in Indonesia in order to supply the local needs and to reduce the rapid flows of importing Longan. Recently, a brand new breed of local Longan has been engineered from Sleman District of D.I.Yogyakarta Province, known as Kelengkeng Super Sleman (KSS). The KSS well adapted to medium-high above sea level- terrain, the most typical terrain in Sleman. Some prosperous features of this Longan cultivar were had a short harvesting time (2 years), thicky flesh, low water content, and able to be induced twice per year for flowering (to produce fruits). All of this goodness thus been introduced to rural communities of Padukuhan Gejayan, Desa Condongcatur, Depok, Sleman, D.I.Yogyakarta by a well designed community service programme. The kind of activites that was going on in this programme were workshop, training, and assistance. Workshop was emphasized on the prospectous consequences of planting Longan trees (KSS) for a long term until could be developed into local industrial product (One Village One Product/OVOP concept), basic knowledge on Longan diversity, KSS cultivation technology, basic knowledge on plant physiology, environmental development based on Education for Sustainable Development (EfSD), and potential local market for KSS. Training was mainly focused on KSS seedling production by both apical stem grafting method and medium preparation method, KSS plantation in some villager houses for a pilot project on how to maintain KSS such as health evaluation, health recovery for infested or unhealthy plant, method on lateral branching development, method on hormone-induced flowering, and application of resting period for after-harvesting plant. Assistance has been actively conducted during training to motivates villager to be get involved. Some positive indicators for implementation of this programme are both the great enthusiasm on KSS Longan plantation in communities and “the shifting paradigm” on KSS Longan maintenance for which has been long considered to be both impractical and arduous.

Abstract

‘Nasubi’ eggplant seeds have occurred since 2018. In addition, plants that produce fruit phenotypic characters differ from those planted before the planting period in 2018. These three factors cause the decline in harvest rates and the current high increase in production costs. Observation of variations in phenotypic and molecular characters with ISSR molecular markers between seeds before 2018 and after 2018, became the first step for the research team to reveal information on the uniformity of phenotypic and molecular characters in eggplant ‘Nasubi’ from seeds purchased by farmers before 2018 and post-2018. The results of the molecular analysis with ISSR primary molecular markers namely UBC 809, UBC 815, IBC 880, UBC 888, and UBC 892, showed that the six samples had a high similarity index of 90% and resulted in a low polymorphism average of 12%. The results of the phenotypic analysis showed that eggplants from the seeds before 2018 and seeds after 2018 in this study had variations in the character of the leaf tip angle, leaf base, flower crown color, stamen color, young fruit color, fruit curve, and fruit tip shape.

Abstract

Anemia and stunting remain a major challenge in public health issues, especially in pregnant women and toddlers. Cucurbita moscatta ‘Butternut’ (Labu susu), which is rich in essential micronutrients uch as Beta Carotene (provitamin A), folic acid, iron, and zinc, can be processed into highly potent functional foods. Aside from being an excellent source of alternative carbohydrates, it can also meet the micronutrient needs to support the prevention of Anemia and stunting. This activity was carried out at the Community-Friendly Green Open Space (RTH - Ruang Terbuka Hijau) in the Bener sub-district, Tegalrejo district, Yogyakarta City, with the aim of analyzing the taste acceptability of processed bottle gourd products among the target groups. The implementation methods included socialization, taste testing, and acceptability analysis of three processed products based on Bottle Gourd: Nutrient-Rich Baby Porridge, High-Protein Mud Cake (Kue Lumpur), and Compote for Pregnant Women (Kolak Ibu Hamil). The activity involved 50 panelists who assessed the color, aroma, taste, texture, and overall acceptance of the three processed products using a six-level hedonic scale. The results showed that all three products were well-received. For all indicators ( Color, Aroma, Taste, and Texture), all products received scores above 4.6, and the overall acceptance was above 5. The overall acceptance score for the High-Protein Mud Cake (5.22 ± 0.6), the Kolak for Pregnant Women (5.18 ± 0.7), and Nutrient-Rich Baby Porridge (5.00 ± 0.8). The conclusion of this research is that panellists “like” and “accept / receive” all three products. This activity had a positive impact on increasing public knowledge regarding the diversification of local food and served as a strategic rocessed products; step in the effort to prevent anemia and stunting at the family level through the fulfillment of essential micronutrients.
