Abstract

The utilization of learning media is one of the alternatives to increase knowledge for students, especially biology learning. In addition, student character can be improved through media in which there is character insertion. Thus, an innovative learning media is needed to improve knowledge and character through character-based comics on environmental conservation submaterial. This research method is a quantitative experiment, with a pretest-posttest control group research design. The sample consisted of 28 control class students and 30 experimental class students. The instruments were 20 multiple choice questions and 22 character questionnaire statements. Data analysis techniques include knowledge assessment measured using the Independent samples t-test formula. The results of data analysis showed that the knowledge of experimental class students increased significantly, the learning outcomes in the experimental class showed a higher average of 86.67 while the control class was 74.46, the average difference in learning outcomes between experimental and control classes was evidenced by the independent samples t-test test value of 0.00 <0.05, and student character showed a percentage of 81.44% in the excellent category. It is concluded that character-based comic media on environmental conservation submaterial can help improve cognitive learning outcomes and student character.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the validity and reliability of the development of learning tools using the STAD model assisted by flipbooks. This study uses the Borg & Gall development model with the following stages: potential and problems, data collection, product design, design validation, and design revision. The validation of the learning device was measured using a validation sheet. The data obtained were analyzed using the Aiken's V formula with a minimum value of 0.78 for 6 validators. The results of the validation of learning devices were declared valid with the average acquisition of Aiken's V calculations in the lesson plan of 0.91, flipbook media of 0.88, LKPD of 0.88, and evaluation questions of 0.90. The reliability of the learning device was tested using the ICC (Interclass Correlation Coeficient) test with SPSS Version 25 software, the results obtained from the reliability of the lesson plan of 0.778 included in the good category, while the reliability value for flipbook media obtained results of 0.537, LKPD of 0.565, and evaluation questions of 0.626 is included in the medium category. It is hoped that this learning device can be tested by the next researcher.

Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum is a systemic change aimed at addressing learning loss caused by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 pandemic. One subject largely affected by the curriculum implementation is Natural Sciences, which has undergone several changes since its inception in 2022. This research aims to examine how the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in the seventh-grade Natural Sciences subject has developed over time by comparing its initial adoption with its implementation in 2025. This research employed mixed methods and involved 30 seventh-grade Natural Sciences teachers from junior high schools in Pontianak City, West Kalimantan Province, Indonesia. Data collection involved questionnaires and brief interviews in 2023 and 2025, concluding in quantitative and qualitative data analysis. The research unveiled comprehensive information, mapped into five key aspects of implementing Natural Sciences learning in the Merdeka Curriculum: the subject’s basis and duration, teachers’ perceptions and understanding, planning and implementation of the learning, assessment of the learning, and its impacts. Several notable key quantitative findings were revealed. First, the proportion of schools that implemented the Merdeka Curriculum rose from 93.3% in 2023 to 100.0% in 2025. Second, teachers who utilized four learning models in 2023 began diversifying their choices, with the 2025 data showing five models, with problem-based learning gaining the highest proportion (76.7%). Third, the collaboration among Natural Sciences teachers and other subjects has risen in proportion from 46.7% for both in 2023 to 86.7% and 76.7% in 2025, respectively. Fourth, the proportion of teachers who felt positive impacts from the Merdeka Curriculum rose from 93.3% in 2023 to 100.0% in 2025. Fifth, there is a decrease in the proportion of teachers who faced obstacles in implementing the Merdeka Curriculum—from 90.0% in 2023 to 66.7% in 2025. Moreover, qualitative findings enrich the quantitative data by providing insights into how seventh-grade Natural Sciences teachers perceive the Merdeka Curriculum and how they translate the regulations into classroom practices, thereby supporting students’ further development in line with national and global demands. Overall, the results indicate that the seventh-grade Natural Sciences teachers in Pontianak City perceive the Merdeka Curriculum as a primary nationwide educational framework that substantially improves teachers’ competencies and supports student development, particularly in character development and 21st-century skills. However, several issues in curriculum implementation require further action and research.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the utilization of the Independent Training feature in the Teachers and Education Personnel Space (RGTK) in optimizing the performance of elementary school teachers in West Pontianak. The study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. Data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation with teachers, principals, and officials from the Education Office. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman interactive model through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the utilization of RGTK is still suboptimal and tends to be administrative, with external motivations dominating the platform's use. Inhibiting factors include time constraints, low intrinsic motivation, and a lack of mentoring and institutional support. The role of principals and the Education Office has not fully supported the optimization of RGTK's sustainable use. Nevertheless, RGTK has the potential to improve teacher performance, especially in the aspect of lesson planning, but its implementation remains inconsistent. This study confirms that optimizing digital platforms for teacher professional development requires systemic support, reflective leadership, and strengthening a culture of independent learning.

Abstract

The Project-Based Student Worksheet (LKPD) serves as a learning medium intended to foster students’ critical and creative thinking abilities while enhancing their problem-solving competence through contextual project-based activities. This research aims to evaluate the feasibility of a project-based LKPD on biotechnology topics for assessing problem-solving skills among high school students. The study utilized a Research and Development (R&D) approach guided by the 4D model, which includes the define, design, and develop stages. Validation was carried out by six experts, including two university lecturers and four biology teachers, using an evaluation sheet that encompassed four criteria: content feasibility, language accuracy, presentation, and visual design. The validation results were analyzed using Aiken’s V for validity and the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) to assess the reliability and consistency among the evaluators. Findings revealed that the developed LKPD achieved an average Aiken’s V score of 0.96, classified as valid, and an ICC reliability value of 0.820, indicating good reliability. Hence, the project-based LKPD developed in this study is deemed suitable for implementation as a learning resource to assess students’ problem-solving abilities in biotechnology at the senior high school level.
