Abstract

Efforts to change people's behaviors to support the improvement of health status are carried out through the Clean and healthy living behavior (CHLB) development program. Although this program has been implemented by the Ministry of Health in Indonesia since 1996, CHLB implementation has not run optimally. Evaluation of CHLB development's success is carried out by looking at CHLB indicators, one of which is in the school setting. CHLB at school is an activity to empower students, teachers, and the school community to adopt a healthy lifestyle to create healthy schools. This study aims to increase the students' knowledge, attitudes, and actions regarding CHLB in Madrasah Diniyyah, Al Islam Educational Institution, Talang Aur Village, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra Province. The study uses action research. This activity is carried out by providing communication, information, and education (KIE) regarding CHLB. In addition, we offer knowledge tests about CHLB and demonstrations by practicing how to wash hands correctly and adequately using clean water and soap to increase students' understanding of CHLB activities. This study emphasizes the importance of socializing clean and healthy life early through integrating learning programs in schools. The results showed an increase in the target audience's knowledge, attitudes, and actions about CHLB. The benefits of CHLB in schools include creating a clean and healthy environment, improving the teaching, and learning process, and making students, teachers, and the school environment healthy.

Abstract

Breastfeeding continuation in Indonesia still faces complex challenges despite scientifically proven optimal benefits of breast milk, where psychological factors particularly emotional regulation and maternal self-esteem are often overlooked in interventions to improve breastfeeding success. This study aims to analyze the role of emotional regulation and self-esteem on breastfeeding continuation and explore the interaction of these two psychological constructs in influencing breastfeeding duration. The study employs a narrative literature review approach with systematic literature search on electronic databases including PubMed, Google Scholar, PsycINFO, and Scopus for the period 2020-2025, where data analysis was conducted thematically with narrative synthesis to integrate findings from various studies. The results indicate that adaptive emotional regulation facilitates mothers' ability to manage psychological distress that can disrupt the physiological mechanisms of lactation, while high self-esteem forms the foundation for developing breastfeeding self-efficacy which predicts longer breastfeeding duration. The synergistic interaction of both constructs creates protective mechanisms against premature breastfeeding cessation, where breastfeeding intention formed since antenatal period becomes the most reliable predictor of actual breastfeeding behavior. This study concludes that maternal emotional regulation and self-esteem contribute significantly to breastfeeding continuation through complex interacting psychobiological mechanisms, indicating the need for comprehensive psychosocial interventions from the antenatal period to increase breastfeeding success rates in indonesia.

Abstract

Open defecation remains a significant public health problem in Indonesia despite various intervention programs implemented. Knowledge and attitudes are predisposing factors suspected to influence open defecation behavior, but there are still inconsistencies in research findings regarding the strength of their relationship with open defecation behavior. This study aims to analyze the relationship between knowledge and attitudes with open defecation behavior and identify which factor has the strongest relationship. This study used a qualitative approach with a literature review method on ten research articles published from 2021-2025. Literature search was conducted on academic databases using keywords "open defecation", "BABS", "knowledge", "attitude", and "behavior". Data analysis was performed using thematic analysis techniques to identify patterns of relationships between the variables studied. The review results showed inconsistent findings regarding the relationship between knowledge and open defecation behavior, with four studies reporting no significant relationship (p>0.05) and six studies finding significant relationships (p<0.05). In contrast, attitude showed a more consistent relationship with open defecation behavior, where eight out of ten studies reported significant relationships with odds ratio values ranging from 4.5-10.788. Conclusion: Attitude has a stronger and more consistent relationship compared to knowledge in shaping open defecation behavior, therefore behavior change interventions need to place greater emphasis on forming positive attitudes toward sanitation.

Abstract

Strategic Partnership for Public Health: Supporting Malaria Elimination in South Sumatra. Background: South Sumatra has significant potential for malaria elimination but faces challenges, including diverse ecosystems and socioeconomic factors. Strategic collaborations and a comprehensive, community-based approach are essential for successful intervention and long-term solutions. Purpose: This activity aims to increase community awareness and knowledge about malaria and its prevention; strengthen local capacity in early detection, treatment, and prevention of malaria; encourage active community involvement in vector control and surveillance efforts; and develop evidence-based policy recommendations for local governments. Method: The approach includes data analysis to create evidence-based treatments for successful malaria management, community focus groups to gauge attitudes toward the disease, stakeholder brainstorming sessions for vector control tactics, and GIS training seminars. Results: A post-implementation assessment showing a decline in cases suggests that the introduction of the malaria mobile health application has greatly raised community awareness and understanding about malaria, including its symptoms, risks, and preventative techniques. Furthermore, by enabling health professionals and policymakers to pinpoint high-risk regions, the GIS has improved efforts to prevent by facilitating data-driven intervention prioritization and more effective resource allocation.

Abstract

Open Defecation (OD) remains a persistent environmental health issue in many regions, particularly in low-income and developing countries. This behavior contributes to increased risks of environmentally related diseases, parasitic infections, and reduced quality of life. Numerous studies indicate that OD practices are influenced not only by environmental factors but also reflect demographic, social, economic, cultural, and sanitation-service conditions. This study aims to examine the determinants of OD behavior through a comprehensive literature review and to identify consistent patterns of significant associations reported in recent research. Methods: A literature review was conducted on 30 research articles examining OD determinants, retrieved from Google Scholar, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Garuda, with publication years ranging from 2021 to 2025. The analysis was guided by a behavioral framework encompassing three groups of factors: predisposing, enabling, and reinforcing factors. Data were synthesized based on the significance of associations, frequency of variable occurrence, and consistency of findings across studies. Results: Predisposing factors emerged as the dominant determinants of OD behavior, particularly education level (63%), knowledge (53%), and attitude (50%). Most variables within this category showed significant associations, especially knowledge, attitude, and education level (>70% of the studies). Enabling factors, including latrine availability (33%) and water availability (27%), also played key roles, with most studies reporting significant relationships concerning basic sanitation infrastructure. Reinforcing factors, such as social support and the role of health workers, were identified as important determinants, contributing significantly in more than 70% of the reviewed studies. Overall, OD behavior was found to result from a complex interaction of individual, environmental, and social dimensions. Conclusion: Efforts to reduce open defecation must integrate multidimensional approaches that include improving sanitation literacy through education, providing adequate and sustainable sanitation facilities, and strengthening the role of community leaders and health workers in promoting hygienic behavior. Further research is recommended to evaluate the effectiveness of community-based interventions and to explore behavioral changes in the context of socio-economic dynamics.

Abstract

Background: Speech and language delay is a condition in which a child's speech and language abilities do not meet age-appropriate developmental expectations. Without timely intervention, such delays may lead to more significant disorders, including developmental language disorders and learning difficulties upon reaching school age. Interactive parent-child engagement plays a critical role in promoting speech and language development and in preventing delays among typically developing children.Method: This systematic review was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines. The process involved analyzing online articles published between 2020 and 2024, sourced from ScienceDirect, PubMed, and Google Scholar, using the keywords "parent-child interaction" and "language and speech development".Result: Eight relevant studies were reviewed and analyzed. The findings consistently highlight the significant role of parent-child interactions in preventing speech and language delays. Parents contribute not only to supporting age-appropriate development but also to identifying potential delays or abnormalities early, thereby enabling timely intervention. Reciprocal interactions provide children with meaningful experiences that foster language acquisition. Shared activities such as reading together offer children opportunities to imitate, create narratives, and receive corrective feedback from parents on aspects such as articulation and intonation.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a condition of failure to thrive in toddlers (babies under the age of five) due to chronic malnutrition, causing children to have a shorter height than they should for their age. Banyuasin Regency has the third highest prevalence of stunting in South Sumatra Province (13.3% in 2022). The Supplementary Feeding Program (PMT) is designed to improve the nutritional status of under-fives, and posyandu cadres play an important role in its successful implementation. This study aims to analyze the factors associated with the active role of posyandu cadres in providing supplementary food in Banyuasin Regency.Method: Quantitative research with a cross-sectional design using 100 samples with the Proportional random sampling method which was carried out in early October - early November 2024 in Banyuasin Regency.Result: The results of the chi square test showed that knowledge (p = 0.001), attitude (p = 0.025), age (p = 0.039), education (p = 0.524), incentives (p = 0.269), training (p = 0.019), length of time as a cadre (p = 0.045) facilities and infrastructure (p = 0.090) and active cadres as many as 59 posyandu cadres. This study indicates that the better the cadres’ knowledge, attitudes, and experience, and the more frequently they attend training, the more likely they are to play an active role in implementing the PMT program. In contrast, educational background, the provision of incentives, and the availability of facilities do not necessarily influence the cadres’ active involvement in the delivery of the PMT program. Efforts to increase the training of posyandu cadres are the main recommendations to support the success of the PMT program in stunting prevention in Banyuasin district.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is inadequacy in physical growth. Stunting can be detrimental to children under five as it causes low intelligence, decreased endurance, and inhibited growth and development. This will increase risk of infections and non-communicable diseases in adulthood. The optimal implementation of family roles supports the improvement of nutritional status in toddlers so it can reduce the incidence of stunting.Method: This systematic review is written in accordance to the PRISMA guidelines. The process includes analysis on online articles from databases of ScienceDirect, PubMed, and Google Scholar for the past five years the period from 2019 with the keywords "stunting and parents or family".Results: There are researches from eight articles related to the role and support of families in preventing stunting. Based on several syntheses reviewed, it was determined that culture can be an inhibiting factor in preventing stunting. Still, with local wisdom, it can also be a catalyst in reducing stunting itself. Culture is one of the specific nutrition interventions that can reduce the prevalence of stunting by emphasizing aspects of a mother as the “center of life”, family roles and support, and the role of fathers in preventing stunting. Families have an important role to play in preventing and managing the problem of stunting. Families play an important role in preventing stunting at every stage of life from fetus in the womb, to newborn, toddler, teenager, married, pregnant, and so on. Therefore, efforts to empower families are necessary.

Abstract

Stunting is a nutritional problem that remains a public health challenge in Indonesia, including in rural areas with limited access to nutritious food. The use of local resources such as moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera), which are rich in nutrients and have natural galactagogue properties, is a potential strategy to support the health of breastfeeding mothers and efforts to prevent stunting. This community service activity aims to empower families, especially breastfeeding mothers, in the consumption of moringa-based local foods through an educational and participatory approach in Ibul Besar 1 Village, Ogan Ilir District. The methods used in this activity included nutrition and lactation education, training on processing moringa leaves into moringa leaf cookies, and the distribution of educational media in the form of booklets and leaflets entitled “Moringa, Mother's Friend - Natural Ways to Increase Breast Milk Production”. The program involved 40 breastfeeding mothers. An evaluation was conducted using pre-tests and post-tests on 40 respondents to measure changes in knowledge and attitudes. The results of the analysis showed an increase in knowledge in the good category from 57.5% to 92.5% and positive attitudes from 65.0% to 97.5%. The Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test showed that this increase was statistically significant (p<0.001). This community-based empowerment program effectively improves mothers' nutritional literacy and positive attitudes towards the use of moringa leaves, thereby potentially supporting lactation health and stunting prevention efforts at the family level. This intervention model can be adapted in other areas with similar moringa leaf potential.
