Abstract

Differential Calculus courses at the Mathematics Education Study Program of Institut Turatea Indonesia face challenges including low conceptual understanding and limited student interaction due to teacher-centered learning. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the STAD-type cooperative learning model in improving students' interpersonal skills and academic achievement in Differential Calculus. A quantitative approach with a One Group Pretest–Posttest design was employed, involving 17 students selected through total sampling. Data were collected using academic achievement tests, an interpersonal skills questionnaire, learning implementation and student activity observation sheets, and a student response questionnaire, then analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, Paired Sample t-test, and effect size calculation (Cohen's d). The results showed that learning implementation was accomplished (mean = 3.49) with excellent student activity (mean = 3.80). Cooperative learning had a significant effect on academic achievement (t = −19.439; p < 0.001; d = 4.02) and interpersonal skills (t = −12.286; p < 0.001; d = 2.50), both classified as very large effect. Students demonstrated positive responses with a mean score of 3.41. These findings indicate that the STAD-type cooperative learning model is effective in improving students' interpersonal skills and academic achievement in Differential Calculus.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the implementation of Educaplay as a Game-Based Learning (GBL) tool to increase students’ interest in learning English at SMK Negeri 1 Makassar. The study employed a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design involving 30 eleventh-grade students who have undergone cluster random sampling technique. Data were collected through a questionnaire measuring four indicators of interest: excitement, curiosity, enjoyment, and attention. The results indicate an increase in the mean score, from 43.83 on the pre-questionnaire to 45.57 on the post-questionnaire. However, the paired t-test results show a values of 0.090, which is greater than 0.05, indicating insufficient evidence to reject the null hypothesis (H0). Additionally, the N-gain score of 0.11 falls into within the low category (g < 0.30). these findings indicate that the implementation of Educaplay as a GBL tool is not statistically significant in enhancing students’ interest in learning English. Keywords: Educaplay, Game-Based Learning, students’ interest, English learning

Abstract

This study aims to develop and validate the IDCIR (Incubation, Divergence, Convergence, Innovation, Reflection) mathematics learning model as an effort to improve problem-solving skills and creative thinking abilities of junior high school students. The background of this research is grounded in the low levels of numeracy and mathematical reasoning abilities among Indonesian students, as reflected in the results of PISA 2022 and AKM 2024. To address these issues, this study employs a Research and Development (R&D) approach by adapting the Plomp model, which includes the stages of preliminary investigation, design and development, as well as implementation and assessment. The resulting product consists of a learning model along with supporting materials such as lesson plans, teacher's guidebooks, student textbooks, student worksheets, and assessment instruments. Validation was conducted by experts in subject matter, pedagogy, and evaluation, showing that the IDCIR model meets the validity criteria in terms of content, construct, language, and visual design of the learning materials. Practicality testing in three schools indicated that the model can be implemented effectively, its syntax is easy for teachers to follow, and students responded positively to the learning activities. Furthermore, effectiveness testing using a pretest–posttest control group design revealed that students who learned through the IDCIR model experienced significant improvements in problem-solving skills, creativity indicators (fluency, flexibility, originality), and learning engagement compared to students in the control group. Thus, the IDCIR model is declared valid, practical, and effective, and can be recommended as an innovative alternative in mathematics instruction to support the achievement of 21st-century competencies.

Abstract

This research aims to explore teachers’ perspectives on managing disruptive student behavior in EFL classrooms. It employs a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through interviews and observations. The subject of this study is an English teacher at SMAN 9 Kepulauan Selayar who deals with disruptive student behavior in EFL classrooms. The results of the research show that teachers have diverse perspectives on five types of disruptive behavior: classroom disruption, aggression, confrontation, disengagement, and wandering. Most of these behaviors, such as classroom disruption, verbal aggression, disengagement, and wandering, are perceived negatively because they disrupt students’ concentration, hinder the learning process, and create an unproductive classroom atmosphere. Meanwhile, teachers exhibit a more neutral perspective toward physical aggression, passive aggression, and confrontation due to the limited occurrence of these behaviors or differing interpretations of them.
