Abstract

Set theory functions as a foundational structure in mathematics, underpinning logical reasoning and the interpretation of relationships across diverse mathematical contexts. Nevertheless, research in mathematics education indicates that students often experience difficulty transferring abstract set-theoretic concepts into effective strategies for solving contextual problems. This challenge reflects a critical pedagogical gap: the lack of a systematic instructional framework that explicitly links the logical structure of set theory to students’ problem-solving processes. To address this gap, the present study proposes a novel pedagogical construct, termed the Bridge Model of the Set Theory Framework, which is designed to mediate between conceptual understanding and applied problem-solving competence. The primary aim of this study is to develop and explicate the Bridge Model and to examine how students employ it to operationalize set-theoretic concepts when engaging with contextual mathematical problems. A qualitative research design using a case study methodology was adopted. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews with mathematics teachers and purposively selected students, and analysis of students’ written solutions. Participants were selected based on their demonstrated engagement with set concepts. Data analysis was conducted inductively using narrative and grounded theory approaches to identify patterns in students’ cognitive and representational practices. The findings reveal recurrent difficulties in students’ translation of contextual information into formal mathematical representations and result in a three-phase Bridge Model, namely problem decontextualization, symbolic mapping of sets, and logical solution validation. Theoretically, this study contributes to mathematics education literature by articulating a structured mechanism that connects abstract set theory with mathematical reasoning in context. Practically, the model offers a principled instructional guide for teaching set theory as a core logical tool, supporting students’ analytical reasoning and systematic problem-solving abilities.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the improvement of students’ learning achievement and to examine their responses toward the implementation of a cooperative learning model based on interpersonal and logical-mathematical intelligences in the Trigonometry course. This research employed a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest–posttest design. The subjects consisted of 19 students who were taught using the cooperative learning model over several meetings. Data were collected through achievement tests, student response questionnaires, and learning implementation observation sheets. The results showed that the students’ average achievement score increased from 68.42 to 85.26, with the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test (Z = -3.922; p < 0.000) indicating a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores. The N-Gain value of 0.533 fell into the moderate category, indicating that the cooperative learning model was quite effective in improving student achievement. Furthermore, the average student response (85) and learning implementation score (89.47) were both in the very high category, suggesting a positive attitude toward the learning model. Therefore, the implementation of a cooperative learning model based on interpersonal and logical-mathematical intelligences was proven effective in improving student achievement and active engagement in learning Trigonometry.

Abstract

This study aims to classify regencies/municipalities in South Sulawesi Province based on welfare indicators using cluster analysis. Cluster analysis is a technique for grouping objects according to the similarity of their characteristics. The method employed is hierarchical agglomerative clustering with the average linkage approach, which is a stepwise clustering procedure that merges two objects with the shortest distance until a single cluster is formed. The average linkage method defines the distance between clusters as the average distance between all objects in one cluster and all objects in another cluster. Prior to clustering, a sampling adequacy test, correlation test, and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) were conducted to address multicollinearity. Subsequently, the Euclidean distance matrix was calculated, a dendrogram was constructed, and the optimal number of clusters was determined by cutting the dendrogram at the largest difference between successive fusion distances, which indicates a significant change in the cluster structure. The results show that two clusters were obtained. Cluster 1, representing regions with lower welfare levels, consists of Selayar, Bulukumba, Bantaeng, Jeneponto, Takalar, Gowa, Sinjai, Maros, Pangkep, Barru, Bone, Soppeng, Wajo, Sidrap, Pinrang, Enrekang, Luwu, Tana Toraja, Luwu Utara, Luwu Timur, Toraja Utara, Parepare, and Palopo. Cluster 2, representing regions with higher welfare levels, consists of Makassar.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui deskripsi kemampuan komunikasi matematis berdasarkan kecerdasan intrapersonal pada materi statistika siswa kelas VII.1 di SMPN 2 Sajoanging. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan eksploratif. Penelitian dilakukan pada 30 siswa kelas VII.1, kemudian dipilih enam subjek yang terdiri dari dua siswa untuk setiap tingkat kecerdasan intrapersonal (rendah, sedang, dan tinggi). Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui kuesioner kecerdasan intrapersonal, tes kemampuan komunikasi matematis, dan wawancara mendalam. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan yaitu reduksi data, penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: (1) Siswa dengan kecerdasan intrapersonal rendah mengalami kesulitan dalam artikulasi pemikiran matematis dan memiliki ketergantungan tinggi pada instruksi langsung, namun mampu menyelesaikan tugas dengan panduan terstruktur; (2) Siswa dengan kecerdasan intrapersonal sedang menunjukkan fleksibilitas dalam penggunaan representasi matematis dan mampu mengkontekstualisasi konsep dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, meskipun masih membutuhkan penguatan dalam artikulasi verbal; (3) Siswa dengan kecerdasan intrapersonal tinggi menunjukkan keunggulan dalam mengorganisasi data secara sistematis dan memiliki kesadaran metakognitif yang tinggi, namun ditemukan keterbatasan dalam pemahaman konsep rata-rata. Penelitian ini mengindikasikan bahwa tingkat kecerdasan intrapersonal dapat memberi pengaruh terhadap pola komunikasi matematis siswa dalam pembelajaran statistika.

Abstract

Faktor internal yang menjadi salah satu faktor yang mempengaruhi keberhasilan akademik peserta didik. Oleh sebabnya, diperlukan optimalisasi pada faktor internal ini. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh kecerdasan interpersonal, self efficacy, disposisi produktif, self esteem, dan motivasi belajar terhadap prestasi belajar matematika. Penelitian kuantitatif dengan jenis ex-post facto ini dilaksanakan di kelas XI MAN 2 Kota Makassar sebagai populasi dalam penelitian. Sampel dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 80 peserta didik yang diambil menggunakan teknik cluster random sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini, angket dan tes prestasi belajar matematika. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah statistik deskriptif dan statistik inferensial dengan menerapkan SEM-PLS. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh secara langsung maupun pengaruh tidak langsung terhadap prestasi belajar matematika dengan nilai P-Value < 0,05 secara keseluruhan. Efek total masing-masing variabel menunjukkan nilai P-Value < 0,05 dan self esteem memberikan kontribusi terbesar terhadap prestasi belajar matematika. Secara keseluruhan pengaruh secara langsung lebih baik dibandingkan pengaruh secara tidak langsung yang dimediasi oleh motivasi belajar. Penelitian ini juga mengkonfirmasi bahwa model struktural dapat digunakan dalam penelitian selajutnya dengan nilai reliabilitas dan validitas yang tinggi. Implikasi penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan prestasi belajar matematika tidak hanya memerlukan penguatan aspek kognitif. Oleh karena itu, pendidik disarankan untuk merancang strategi pembelajaran yang tidak hanya berorientasi pada penguasaan materi, tetapi juga pada pengembangan kepercayaan diri dan sikap positif peserta didik terhadap matematika.
