Abstract

Low mathematical problem-solving ability causes students to experience various difficulties in understanding arithmetic sequences and series. This study aimed to analyze students’ learning difficulties and the factors influencing them in terms of mathematical problem-solving ability. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed involving Grade X E3 students of SMA Negeri 17 Merangin. Data were collected through mathematical problem-solving tests, interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The findings revealed that students experienced conceptual, representational, procedural, and strategic difficulties, with varying levels across problem-solving ability categories. Students with low problem-solving ability demonstrated the most dominant difficulties in all aspects. The factors contributing to learning difficulties consisted of internal and external factors. These findings indicate that enhancing mathematical problem-solving ability should become a primary focus of mathematics instruction to reduce students’ learning difficulties.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengatasi masalah rendahnya kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa pada materi Teorema Pythagoras, serta terbatasnya media pembelajaran yang interaktif, kontekstual, dan relevan dengan budaya lokal. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu mengembangkan virtual laboratory berbasis etnomatematika Candi Muaro Jambi sebagai media pembelajaran untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa kelas VIII SMP. Metode yang digunakan adalah model pengembangan 4D (Define, Design, Develop, dan Disseminate). Hasil validasi menunjukkan bahwa media berada pada kategori sangat valid dengan skor 96% pada aspek materi dan 94% pada aspek desain. Uji praktikalitas oleh guru memperoleh hasil 96% dan oleh siswa 93,67%, yang termasuk dalam kategori sangat praktis. Uji efektivitas menunjukkan nilai angket efektivitas sebesar 91,75% serta peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis dengan rata-rata post-test 78,32 dan nilai N-gain 0,68 yang berada pada kategori sedang. Dengan demikian, virtual laboratory berbasis etnomatematika Candi Muaro Jambi dinyatakan efektif, valid, dan praktis digunakan pada pembelajaran Teorema Pythagoras. Media ini membantu siswa memahami konsep secara visual dan interaktif serta mengaitkannya dengan budaya lokal sehingga pembelajaran menjadi lebih bermakna.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the obstacles faced by physics teachers in utilizing digital technology-based learning media in the implementation of the Independent Curriculum. This study employed a quantitative research method, with a descriptive type of research. The sampling technique used was convenience sampling, involving 25 high school physics teachers who were non-randomly selected from various regions based on ease of access. Data analysis was conducted using a Likert Scale. The research procedure was carried out systematically through the stages of problem collection and literature review, instrument development and validation, questionnaire distribution using Google Forms, data collection and analysis, and interpretation of the results and drawing conclusions. Based on the results of the research data analysis that has been conducted, it was found that physics teachers generally have a positive perception of the use of digital media in learning and believe that digital media can increase interactivity and help visualize physics concepts. This study shows that the implementation of digital media in physics learning is not only influenced by the technical ability to use technology, but also by the teacher's ability to integrate technology pedagogically according to the characteristics of physics learning and the demands of the Independent Curriculum.

Abstract

Misconceptions on the topic of waves are a systemic problem in high school physics learning that requires a comprehensive diagnostic instrument. Conventional diagnostic instruments up to the four-tier generation have limitations in revealing the conceptual structure behind students' thinking errors. This study aims to develop a five-tier multi-representation diagnostic instrument on the topic of waves using the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The main innovation of this instrument lies in the integration of multi-representations (verbal, pictures, graphics, mathematical) in Tier 1 and the addition of a paraphrase tier (Tier 5) that asks students to rewrite their understanding in their own words. The development process includes needs analysis, designing a grid of 16 questions, validation by two experts, and a limited trial on 34 grade XI students of SMAN 13 Kota Jambi. The results of expert validation showed an average percentage of 91.25% (Very Good) from both validators. Content validity was met with a percentage of False Positive (FP) of 6.80% and False Negative (FN) of 4.41%, both below the 10% threshold. Construct validity was confirmed through a significant Product Moment correlation (r = 0.342–0.348; sig. < 0.05) and factor analysis with six significant factors (eigenvalue > 1). The instrument's reliability was high, with a Cronbach's Alpha of 0.726. This instrument is expected to help physics teachers diagnose students' misconceptions more precisely and thoroughly on the topic of waves.
