Abstract

Backgroud: Kangean Island is one of the islands in Sumenep Regency, Madura, East Java. Malnutrition in under-five children is still one of the main problems in the Kangean Islands. In this regard, empowering posyandu (integrated service post) cadres to carry out nutrition education independently is one of the important factors in the success of reducing this nutritional problem. Objective: This paper analyzes the effectiveness of training activities to increase the knowledge and self-efficacy of posyandu cadres on Kangean Island, Sumenep Regency. Methods: Community service was carried out on Kangean Island on July 19 and 20, 2024 in the form of two activities, namely posyandu cadre training on how to carry out nutrition education and create good nutrition education media on the first day, and the second day was a nutrition education competition jamboree. Participants were 18 posyandu cadres from four villages on Kangean Island. The activity's success was evaluated using pre- and post-test questionnaire instruments and a paired sample t-test was carried out to see the difference in the average level of knowledge and self-efficacy before and after training. In addition, from the jamboree, it can be seen to what extent the cadres can implement the training materials. Results: The average score of knowledge and self-efficacy increased after the cadre training. There was a significant difference between the pre- and post-test for the cadres' self-efficacy level in providing education and making nutritional education media (p-value 0.024). In addition, each group from each posyandu representative succeeded in becoming educators and was able to make creative nutritional education media during the cadre jamboree. Conclusion: Community service in the form of training can increase the knowledge and self-efficacy of cadres in providing nutritional education and making nutritional education media. It is hoped that cadre training to provide nutritional education and make educational media can be carried out periodically by various related institutions. Some awards can also be held to increase the enthusiasm of cadres to carry out their duties.

Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is pain that occurs before, after, or during menstruation. The occurrence of dysmenorrhea in adolescents, especially college students, often hinders the activities that these students must perform and can lead to diseases of the reproductive system. However, dysmenorrhea is often considered a common disease, and its effects are not well understood. This study aims to analyze the effect of education using flashcards related to high calcium and magnesium diets, as well as exercise, on the severity of dysmenorrhea and knowledge levels among health and non-health students at Airlangga University. The method used in this study is experimental with a Quasi-Experimental design and a pretest-posttest control group design among health and non-health students at Airlangga University. The instruments used in this study include questionnaires, flashcards, and a recipe book. The results of this study indicate significant changes in knowledge before and after education, and significant differences in knowledge between the treatment group and the control group. The conclusion of this study is that education using flash cards can be used to improve knowledge and behavior in both groups, both health and non-health students. Therefore, it is recommended that universities conduct regular education programs related to diseases that are still underestimated by the general public

Abstract

Breastfeeding provides optimal nutrition for infants and offers significant health benefits to both mother and child. However, challenges such as perceived low milk production and workplace constraints hinder breastfeeding practices among mothers. This study evaluates the effectiveness of the Mom Uung Breastmilk Booster Supplement (BBS) in enhancing breastmilk production among working and non-working mothers. Using a cross-sectional design, data were collected from 665 breastfeeding mothers in Indonesia via a validated online questionnaire. Mothers who consumed X BBS reported increased breastmilk volume, breastfeeding frequency, and pumping efficiency, with significant improvements observed in both working and non-working groups (p<0.001). Non-working mothers demonstrated higher breastmilk production compared to working mothers. Key barriers identified included perceived low milk supply (30.3%) and work-related time constraints (11.6%). The study highlights the potential of X BBS to support breastfeeding practices and underscores the need for workplace policies that promote breastfeeding. Further research is recommended to validate these findings and objectively assess the impact of BBS on breast milk quantity and quality.

Abstract

Perinatal mental health issues, particularly depression and anxiety, pose critical challenges to maternal and children’s well-being. It has been reported that psychological distress affects approximately 20.7% of prenatal and 17% of postnatal mothers, attributed to multifaceted emotional, physiological, social, and interpersonal transitions during the perinatal period. Accessibility of digital technologies has increased, prompting innovative approaches to prevention and treatment. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of digital psychotherapy interventions compared to traditional care in addressing perinatal mental health outcomes. A comprehensive literature search conducted between September and October 2023 across Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science databases yielded eleven eligible randomized controlled trials (2017-2023). Meta-analytic findings using Review Manager 5.4 demonstrated significant reductions in anxiety (SMD: -0.41; 95% CI: -0.67 to -0.15; p = 0.002) and depressive symptoms (SMD: -0.41; 95% CI: -0.54 to -0.27; p < 0.00001) through digital interventions compared to traditional care. Future research directions should prioritize developing engaging interventions, possibly incorporating animation and virtual environments, while considering population-specific factors and optimal intervention duration.

Abstract

Self-regulated learning is a process of learning how to manage and regulate oneself to obtain skills and knowledge without depending on others. It is expected that diabetes patients can manage their diabetes by themselves. This study aimed to analyze the effect of self-regulated learning-based educational intervention on quality of life for patients with type-2 diabetes mellitus (DM) at Dr. Ramelan Naval Hospital, Surabaya. This was a quasi-experimental study in the form of pretest and posttest with a control group design. A total of 20 patients with DM were randomly divided into intervention and control groups to undergo a 4-week intervention. The intervention group received dietary education with self-regulated learning, while the control group received standard education. The results revealed differences in variables such as dietary obedience, food intake at home, fasting blood sugar, diastolic blood pressure, and quality of life. The intervention group experienced a positive impact on the quality of life and resulted in better dietary obedience than that of the control group. In conclusion, the implementation of self-regulated learning-based dietary education can improve dietary obedience, knowledge, intention, family support, social support, physical activity, and quality of life for patients with type 2 diabetes.
