Abstract

Abstract

Mastery of Arabic speaking skills (maharah kalam) remains difficult for senior madrasah students, particularly when Instruction relies heavily on conventional methods with limited interactive media. This study investigates the effectiveness of Discovery Learning supported by animated video media at MA Babussalam Payaraman. Employing a quantitative approach with a pretest–posttest control group design, data were collected through tests, questionnaires, observations, and interviews, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality and homogeneity tests, and an independent sample t-test. Results show a substantial improvement in the experimental class, with scores increasing from 55% in the pretest to 84.56% in the posttest, while the control class rose only from 49.34% to 68.69%. Students taught with animated videos also demonstrated greater engagement, motivation, and confidence. The study concludes that Discovery Learning, combined with animated video media, effectively enhances Arabic speaking skills. Its primary contribution lies in proving that integrating process-oriented learning with dynamic visual media significantly boosts communicative competence and learner participation, offering a more impactful alternative to traditional Arabic language teaching.

Abstract

instruction in Islamic Religious Education (IRE) and analyze its impact on students’ higher-order thinking skills at SMA Negeri 1 Tenggarong. The background of this research arises from the prevalence of surface learning practices in IRE, which emphasize rote memorization and fail to foster 21st-century skills such as critical, analytical, evaluative, and creative thinking. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. The participants consisted of IRE teachers, students, parents, and school administrators selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, higher order thinking skills (HOTS) tests, and documentation, then analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model involving data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed a transformation from memorization-based learning toward deeper understanding through case analysis, behavioral evaluation, and authentic projects such as Islamic-themed videos and podcasts. Students demonstrated improvement in higher-order thinking by linking Qur’anic verses and Hadith to contemporary issues like digital ethics and intolerance. This study concludes that deep learning is an effective instructional model to enhance students’ cognitive, affective, and psychomotor competencies and can serve as a strategic approach for realizing the “Pancasila Student Profile” in the context of 21st-century Islamic education.

Abstract

Exemplary-based education (uswah hasanah) is a fundamental approach in Islamic education that plays a crucial role in shaping students’ character, moral integrity, and academic culture. This article aims to analyze the concept of teachers’ uswah hasanah from the perspectives of the Qur’an and Hadith and to examine its relevance as a human resource management (HRM) strategy for educators in Islamic educational institutions. This study employs a qualitative approach using library research. Primary data are derived from the Qur’an and the Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), while secondary data include Qur’anic exegesis, Islamic education literature, and relevant previous studies. Data were analyzed using content analysis and descriptive-analytical methods to explore the normative and practical dimensions of exemplary leadership in education. The findings indicate that uswah hasanah has a strong theological foundation, particularly in Qur’an Surah Al-Ahzab (33:21), and functions as a transformative method of value internalization through real-life examples rather than verbal instruction alone. From a tafsir tarbawi perspective, teachers’ exemplary conduct can be positioned as a strategic framework for managing educational human resources, encompassing integrity-based recruitment, continuous professional development, ethical performance evaluation, and the establishment of a compassionate organizational culture. Therefore, uswah hasanah serves not only as a character education method but also as a strategic model for educator management in Islamic education (teacher).

Abstract

Pesantren is a traditional Islamic educational institution currently facing significant pressure from globalization and modernization, which disrupt conventional values. This study aims to analyze the strategies employed by pesantren in preserving Islamic educational traditions while examining the process of shaping students' (santri) social identity amidst dynamic social changes. This research utilized a descriptive qualitative approach within Creswell’s framework. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with leaders (Kyai) and teachers, participatory observation within the pesantren environment, and documentation of curriculum transitions. The results reveal that pesantren implement a hybrid strategy by maintaining kitab kuning (classical texts) learning and the sorogan and bandongan systems as the primary spiritual foundation. Adaptation to social change is achieved through the integration of the national curriculum, digital skills training, and strengthening santri entrepreneurship. The Kyai plays a central role as a charismatic authority figure who balances authentic traditional values with the necessity of modern innovation. The social identity of santri is formed through the internalization of sincerity, simplicity, and independence, practiced collectively in daily life. The study concludes that pesantren demonstrate high resilience in maintaining their Islamic identity despite structural adjustments. The implications of this research highlight the importance of value-based education models as a reference for developing other Islamic educational institutions in facing global challenges without losing their cultural and spiritual roots.

Abstract

Globalization has brought profound changes to social and cultural structures, resulting in identity tension, growing polarization, and the weakening of humanitarian values. This study aims to examine the urgency of reconstructing universal Islamic values as a foundation for unifying identity and humanity in the global era. Employing a library research method, this study analyzes relevant books as well as national and international journal articles using thematic content analysis. The findings reveal that universal Islamic principles, including justice (al-‘adl), compassion (rahmah), respect for human dignity, tolerance, and balance, function as ethical guidelines capable of responding to contemporary global challenges. Furthermore, the concept of religious moderation (wasathiyah) is identified as a strategic middle path that harmonizes religious identity with global citizenship. The study also emphasizes the importance of digital religious literacy in countering misinformation and extremism. Ultimately, universal Islamic values must be translated from normative discourse into practical implementation within education, public policy, and social engagement to foster a peaceful and inclusive global civilization.   Keywords: Universal Islamic Values, Global Identity, Religious Moderation.

Abstract

This study examines the comparative method in Islamic studies, focusing on its conceptual framework, practical applications, and contributions to contemporary scholarly development. Using a qualitative desk research approach with content analysis, the study critically reviews classical and modern authoritative sources. The comparative method is positioned as an epistemological tool for systematically analyzing similarities and differences in Islamic thought systematically and objectively. The discussion explores its application across various disciplines, including Islamic jurisprudence, Qur'anic exegesis, hadith studies, and the intellectual dialogue between theology, philosophy, and Sufism. The findings demonstrate that diversity in Islamic thought is not arbitrary but rooted in different methodological approaches, historical contexts, and epistemic frameworks. The comparative method plays a crucial role in mapping intellectual diversity, reducing sectarian bias, and fostering constructive academic critique. Furthermore, it contributes to intellectual renewal by enabling Islamic studies to address contemporary challenges such as modernity, pluralism, and digital transformation. Ultimately, the comparative approach strengthens Islamic studies as a critical, inclusive, and responsive academic discipline while maintaining its epistemological integrity.   Keywords: Comparative method, Islamic studies, intellectual diversity, scientific objectivity, methodological renewal
