Abstract

This article identifies haul, an annual commemoration of the death of charismatic figures, in Indonesia as political. The politicization of haul has been accompanied by a proliferation of narratives promoting the history of Hadhrami diaspora while strengthening the relationship between local Hadhramis and the local statesmen. This qualitative research examines the use of haul in Pontianak to commemorate selected syarif aristocrats. Pontianak, founded in the mid-eighteenth century by a syarif statesman, has a long-standing Hadhrami memory. Data for this study were collected through literature review, interviews, observation, and archival research related to Kadriah Sultanate’s haul events. The findings suggest that haul reshapes memories of the Kadriah Sultanate and Hadhrami identity for pragmatic purposes in local politics. By examining this case study of a commemorative religious event in the non-Arab world, it is shown that the local Arab sultanate redefines Hadhrami ethnic identity as nationalist, locally rooted, and heroic. Public haul festivals thus become effective tools for syarif politicians to exert influence in the religious and political spheres.

Abstract

One of the ethnic groups that is known for its cultural strength is the Dayak ethnic group, which is widely spread in East Kalimantan Province. The Dayak ethnic group has local wisdom that is synonymous with the forest environment. Almost all of their activities depend on forests, including their source of food. Forest management as agricultural land reflects a uniform cultural process in the Dayak ethnic agricultural system. They use the word burn with nutung vocabulary which is different from burning food, such as pisak, tinuq, and kahang in several Dayak language dialects. This burn vocabulary is seen in 6 Dayak languages in East Kalimantan, namely Dayak Kenyah, Dayak Bahau, Dayak Benuaq, Dayak Tunjung, Dayak Punan, and Dayak Penihing/Aoheng. These six Dayak languages differentiate the word burn for the context of burning land and burning food. Ideologically, these two words are included in the cognitive system of Dayak speakers. Sociologically, they can carry out customary regulations well. Biologically, the use of these two words can maintain the relationship of all flora and fauna in the forest ecosystem. Therefore, these two words are linguistic evidence of the concept of environmental preservation in the Dayak language.

Abstract

The development of intellectual wealth globally should serve as a reflection for humanity, as world changes begin with the concepts we build, which in turn become the cognitive tools used. This includes the Burhani epistemology developed by al-Jabiri, which applies its logic to various aspects of issues, eventually becoming a source of wisdom to be proud of in the Arab and Muslim worlds. This study employs several approaches, such as historical, literary, and textual analyses relevant to the discussion. The use of these methods aims to uncover a more complex and comprehensive understanding of the subject matter. The findings of this study indicate that epistemological concepts are highly beneficial when applied to education. They not only provide satisfaction with the material learned but also offer a more comprehensive approach that can enhance students' cognitive abilities in exploring and understanding the truths of Islamic teachings. The use of Burhani epistemology is also believed to enhance the spirituality of learners, leading to a deeper engagement with Islam. Furthermore, it can foster religious independence, critical thinking skills, stimulate discussion on religious material, build contextual understanding, and, most importantly, strengthen the moral foundation of adherents.

Abstract

When the principle of tolerance is seen as an agreement on shared values, the forms of its practice can be diverse, even contradictory. On the other hand, the relationship between minority and majority groups in Indonesia continues to change over time, and this dynamic becomes a locus of control for the authorities. The government never ignores this problem. In addition to regulations, one of the facilities provided is the existence of Islamic Religious Counselors. The purpose of this study is to explain the role of Islamic religious counselors in realizing harmonious relations for minority groups in freedom of religion and belief. The research method used in this study is a qualitative method with descriptive analysis. The results of the study show the issue in understanding the extent to which the role of divine (heavenly) religious symbols is manifested in the social realm when the majority and minority groups of various religious believers interact with each other in a society, and when each different symbol touches each other intensely. Religious counselors can provide an important foundation for expressing religion amid diversity. The main thing that needs to be underlined is the moderate religious insight and attitude. This is what distinguishes a Islamic religious councelor from other religious figures although both convey religious messages through guidance and counseling activities. The efforts and roles of religious icouncelors are explained from the perspective of religious moderation, harmonization, and freedom of religion and belief. From the perspective of religious moderation, the councelors have a role as an agent of moderation, guardian of morals, and guardian of faith, while from the perspective of harmonization, the councelors have an informative and educative roles, the same thing also in realizing freedom of religion and belief.

Abstract

The life of modern society, which is currently marked by the development of technology and communication, has shown significant progress. However, it turns out that this progress has also given rise to quite complex problems. The pressures of life in this era have diminished individuals' ability to practice self-control, making them vulnerable to various mental and spiritual illnesses. By combining the principles of Stoicism philosophy and the teachings of the Quran, this research explores how self-control can serve as an effective solution to various life challenges nowadays. The method used is qualitative, and data from various literature sources were collected to analyze the principles of self-control from both perspectives. The findings indicate that self-control can be achieved by combining Stoic principles and Quranic teachings. Both provide effective guidance for managing emotions and directing behavior positively in the face of modern life's challenges. The integration of these perspectives offers a holistic and practical approach to enhancing self-control through the development of self-awareness, determination to accept Allah's decrees, thinking before acting, and exercising patience when facing trials in life.

Abstract

Kurikulum Merdeka represents Indonesia's strategic response to the demands of Society 5.0, an era marked by pervasive technology integration. As an educational innovation, it aims to cultivate future-ready individuals adept at utilizing technology, possessing competitiveness, and providing innovative solutions for society. The curriculum emphasizes developing 21st century skills like critical thinking, creativity, and digital literacy through student-centered, project-based learning and formative assessments. Key opportunities include nurturing an adaptable, tech-savvy workforce and aligning education with industry needs. However, challenges arise in teacher readiness for constructivist pedagogy, technological competence, and the need for continuous curriculum updates. Successful implementation requires enhancing teacher training, providing adequate technological infrastructure, and fostering multi-stakeholder collaboration in curriculum design and evaluation. Policy reflection is crucial to optimize Kurikulum Merdeka's responsiveness to Society 5.0's rapid changes. By addressing opportunities, overcoming obstacles, and ensuring industry relevance, Indonesia can effectively prepare its youth to thrive in an increasingly digitalized world while driving sustainable societal progress. Proactive policy measures can position the education system as a catalyst for innovation and human capital development in the Society 5.0 landscape..

Abstract

Abstract

This paper attempts to examine how fundamental-radical epistemology forms after the return of the power of Taliban in Afghanistan. To arrive at this topic, the author would firstly review the terminology and historical roots of fundamentalism-radicalism, and the factors that caused its emergence and its characteristics. The author uses a historical-phenomenological approach in doing the literature research to write this article. In analyzing obtained data, the author is using descriptive-analytical, historical, and holistic techniques. The results found are: first, the emergence of the understanding of fundamental-radical, which was initially only a political phenomenon, turned out to lead to systemic violence, actual violence, action, and symbolic violence. These are still threatening humanity because of the characteristics of their movements that are unwilling to communicate and attempt dialogue with relevant groups. Second, the factors behind the rise of radicalism are two, namely: socio-political factors and religious-related emotional factors. Third, the epistemology of fundamental-radicals lays only on literal and textual understanding. According to them, the truth lies in the understood sacred text, as it is.
