Abstract

Research and development (R & D) of electronic books (e-book) for science in International Secondary Schools (RSBI and SBI) were conducted with the objective of providing science e-books as a source of learning for teachers and students of RSBI and SBI. With the development of this e-book, it was expected to develop an integrated understanding of science in students, develop students' language skills, and to develop skills in using information technology. The study was conducted by the method of R & D that begins with an analysis of national science curriculum and Cambridge curriculum. The e-book was presented in the form of integrated themes that combined concepts of physics, chemistry and biology written in English. From the results of feasibility study conducted on the use of the e-books it was found that the e-books were sufficiently met the criteria in terms of image presentation, animation, font used, English, exercises and student activities. In general, it was concluded that the e-book developed was creatively made and appropriate for learning source in secondary schools, particularly in RSBI and SBI. Penelitian Pengembangan Buku Elektronik untuk Sains di SMP SBI dan RSBI dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk menyediakan buku sains yang dapat dijadikan sebagai salah satu sumber belajar bagi guru dan siswa SMP di RSBI/SBI. Dengan dikembangkannya buku ini, diharapkan pembelajaran sains dapat mengembangkan pemahaman sains siswa yang terintegrasi, mengembangkan kemampuan berbahasa siswa, serta mengembangkan kemampuan dalam menggunakan teknologi informasi. Penelitian dilakukan melalui metode Reseach and Development (R&D) yang diawali dengan analisis kurikulum sains SMP berdasarkan KTSP dan kurikulum Cambridge. Penyajian buku berupa tema-tema yang mengintegrasikan konsep-konsep dalam fisika, kimia dan biologi dengan menggunakan Bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa pengantar. Dari hasil uji kelayakan penggunaan buku yang dilakukan terhadap siswa SMP diperoleh bahwa e-book yang disusun memenuhi kriteria penggunaan e-book dalam aspek penyajian gambar, animasi, penggunaan huruf, penggunaan Bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa pengantar, latihan serta kegiatan siswa. Secara umum, e-book yang dikembangkan dinilai memiliki kreativitas yang baik dan layak digunakan sebagai buku sumber dalam pembelajaran sains di SMP, khususnya di RSBI/SBI.

Abstract

The study aimed to analyze the development of biology teachers’ Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) in lesson study and to describe the role of the observer in developing teacher’s TPACK during the activity. The lesson study was carried out in two from, school-based lesson study and biology teacher association based lesson study. The method used in the study was descriptive involved teachers in one school located in Bandung and member of biology teacher association in West Bandung District West Java, Indonesia. The development of TPACK was focused on five components; they are: learning objective, concept, pedagogy, evaluation, and technology. The information of teachers’ TPACK was gain from CoRe + technology, and the result was categorized in pre, growing, and maturing TPACK. The study revealed that the teachers’ TPACK in school-based lesson study was more in the aspect of pedagogical knowledge meanwhile teacher TPACK in biology association lesson study improved their TPACK in pedagogical knowledge, content knowledge, and technological knowledge. The development of teachers’ TPACK was varied for each indicator from pra to maturing and from growing to maturing. The overall result, the development of teachers’ TPACK in the two types of lesson study (school-based lesson study and Biology association lesson study) was more to the pedagogical aspect. The research suggests that teacher association based lesson study is more useful to develop teacher TPCAK than school-based lesson study, and the role of the observer is essential in developing teacher TPACK.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of STEM-based biology learning on technological literacy and students’ decision making skills in senior high school. The sample used in this study were X grade students from two classes in one of the senior high school in Bandung. Determination of the research subject was carried out as a convenience sampling technique from recommendation teachers and studying the activities of students who had not learned about environmental pollution material. This study used a quasi-experimental method through a non-equivalent control group design. Student’s technological literacy in this study was measured by using several aspects of technological literacy while student’s decision making was measured by using open-ended questions that are relevant to socio-scientific issues. Student’s decision making analyzed based on the basic categories of decision making and the level of argumentation as a reasoning process in decision making. This study shows that STEM-based biology learning does not affect technological literacy and decision making in high school students. This was done on statistical tests on technological literacy and decision making skills tests results that showed no significant difference between students in STEM classes with non-STEM classes.

Abstract

Augmented reality application-based learning is one form of education reforms that is used to improve various skills that are needed. One of them is creative thinking skills to face the challenges of the 21st century or the challenges of the industrial revolution 4.0 today. Therefore, the researcher conducts a study entitled the use of augmented reality application to improve the understanding of plant life cycle and creative thinking skills. This study aims to analyze the effects of the use of augmented reality application based on the improved understanding of students about the plant life cycle and creative thinking skills. This study uses the method of quasi-experimental design. The used study design is non-eqivalent control group pretest-postest design. The samples in this study are grade X students of SMA 2 Lembang consisting of 30 students determined by purposive sampling technique. The results of this study show that there are significant differences in the understanding of the concept and creative thinking skills of the students, although the creative thinking skills in both classes are still in the poor category., it is due to the application media of augmented reality application is only used as a medium of learning without including the making process of it so students are not accustomed when they are faced with questions in the form of problem. The test of two averages on the value of concept understanding shows the figure of (2-tailed t = 0 and 0,001) α (0.05) which means that augmented reality application-based learning has an influence on students 'mastery of concept concepts, but does not affect the ability of participants' creative thinking skills students.

Abstract

Questioning plays an important role in teaching learning process. The effect of prompting question and non-prompting question in biology teaching learning process on increasing student’s understanding and student’s retention was evaluated in this study.  The method used in the study was experimental involving students in control group who used student experiment and non-experiment worksheet without prompting question and students in experimental group who used student experiment and non-experiment worksheet with prompting question. The study was carried out in 4 concepts, i.e. the environment sustainability, water pollution, environment study, as well as sight organ in Invertebrate. To evaluate the different effect of student worksheet with prompting question and student worksheet without prompting question on increasing student’s understanding and retention posttest 1 and post-test 2 was given to the two groups in time interval of 2,3 and 4 weeks. From the result of the two tests the retention was measured. The study revealed that in the concept of Environment sustainability, environmental study and water pollution the use of student worksheet with prompting question as well as without prompting question was effectively increased student’s understanding to the concept, and the increasing of student’s understanding to the concept between control and experiment group was equally the same. Meanwhile in the concept of the organ sight in invertebrate the use of experiment student worksheet with prompting question more effectively increased student’s understanding to the concept than the use of experiment student worksheet without prompting question. Student in the experiment group performed better retention on the concept than student in control group.

Abstract

This learning cycle focused on developing of Biology education student’s performance in bacteria DNA-plasmid isolation as well as using gel electrophroresis. The aim of the study was to improve student’s performance in operating equipment used in plasmid isolation such as: micropipettes, microsentrifuge, vortex, shaker-incubator, gel electrophoresis, and UV Trans-illuminator camera. Beside that students were also trained to DNA-plasmid isolation base on standard procedure, so students could identify the form of plasmid via the use of gel electrophoresis. This study was conducted in 2 cycle learning processes as an enrichment of microbiology activity, which associated with molecular microbes genetics. Using observation sheet did evaluation. The study revealed that biology education students had good performance in isolating the plasmid and all group were succeed to isolate the plasmid. Beside that there were increased in knowledge ability especially associated with molecular microbes genetics subject, which achievment gain average was 18,3% (Class A) and 35,4% (class B). The DNA isolation activity in microbiology learning shared high contribution as well as increasing of knowledge achievment and performance ability.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk memperoleh informasi tentang peningkatan penguasaan konsep siswa dalam pembelajaran biologi pada konsep Reproduksi Vegetatif alami tumbuhan melalui pembelajaran kooperatif tipe jigsaw di SMPN 2 Cimalaka. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas IXA SMPN 2 Cimalaka dengan jumlah siswa 39 orang. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan untuk mengetahui penguasaan konsep siswa adalah dengan menggunakan tes hasil belajar. Temuan hasil pembelajaran melalui pembelajaran kooperatif tipe jigsaw diperoleh hasil tes siswa sudah memenuhi ketuntasan belajar dengan jumlah siswa yang tuntas belajar sebanyak 89,74% dan adanya peningkatan skor post tes siswa dibandingkan dengan pre tes dengan perbedaan yang signifikan, ini menunjukkan adanya peningkatan penguasaan konsep siswa. Berdasarkan skor gain ternormalisasi pembelajaran ini mempunyai nilai 0,44 yang tergolong kategori efektivitas sedang. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe jigsaw yang dikembangkan pada penelitian ini cukup efektif. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan penguasaan konsep siswa dalam pembelajaran Biologi setelah menggunakan pembelajaran kooperatif tipe jigsaw pada konsep Reproduksi Vegetatif Alami Tumbuhan.

Abstract

Kegiatan lesson study di SMP Negeri 1 Paseh dilaksanakan pada tahun pelajaran 2006/2007. Kegiatan ini diikuti oleh kalangan guru IPA Kabupaten Sumedang beserta team ahli dari dosen FPMIPA-UPI. Kegiatan dilaksanakan dalam tiga tahap: perencanaan, implementasi, dan refleksi. Implementasi kegiatan  dilaksanakan pada hari Sabtu, 2 Desember 2006. Untuk bidang studi biologi, konsep yang diambil adalah Sistem Pencernaan Makanan pada sub konsep Uji Kandungan Bahan Makanan. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode eksperimen. Implementasi kegiatan ini dilaksanakan pada kelas VIII-F dengan jumlah siswa 38 orang, yang dibagi ke dalam 6 kelompok. Secara umum kegiatan lesson study ini membawa pengaruh yang cukup besar dalam upaya peningkatan profesionalisme guru dalam merancang, melaksanakan, dan mengevaluasi pembelajaran. Kegiatan ini hendaknya tidak hanya dilakukan pada saat ada pembimbing dari UPI, melainkan diimplementasikan dalam kegiatan belajar sehari-hari untuk setiap sekolah, baik untuk satu bidang studi saja ataupun antar bidang studi.

Abstract

The study of “Pedagogical Content Knowledge Development of Science Prospective Teachers in Professional Practice Program” was conducted in one junior high school located in Bandung. The purpose of the study was to analyze the level and pattern of science prospective teachers’ PCK development as measured by CoRe. The study involved students who enrolled professionals practice program. Mixed methods, quantitative and qualitative research was utilized as a method in the study. Data collected by the coding and scoring of the CoRe instruments were analyzed quantitatively; and data gained from observation, documentation, and interviews were analyzed qualitatively. The results showed that the PCK of prospective teachers are in the maturing PCK (level 3) and growing PCK (level 2). There are two patterns of PCK development showed by prospective teachers i.e. rising and fluctuative. The prospective teachers who are in the mature PCK show the pattern of rising, whereas prospective teachers who are in the growing PCK show fluctuative pattern. The study reveals that external and internal factors influenced the development of PCK. The pattern of guidance, lesson study activities, and intensity guidance are external factors that influenced the pattern of prospective students’ PCK development. Psychological effect that exists between teachers and students, the motivation of self to expand the horizons of knowledge, communication skills, and teaching experiences are the internal factors that influenced the development of prospective teacher PCK. The study suggests that the development of prospective teachers PCK in the program can be improved when supervisor and prospective teachers put consideration to those internal and external factors that influence the development of PCK.

Abstract

Hasil survei TIMMS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study)  dan PISA menggambarkan bahwa kemampuan berpikir ilmiah peserta didik  Indonesia masih rendah. Hal ini dikarenakan kurangnya pelatihan peserta didik terhadap penyelesaian soal-soal HOTS. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeksripsikan implementasi pembelajaran berbasis High Other Thinking Skill pada peserta didik kelas X IPA. Telah diketahui Bersama bahwa penerapan kurikulum 2013 mengisyaratkan bahwa pentingya penerapan HOTS pada proses pembelajaran di jenjang SMA. Oleh sebab itu, perlu dilakukan studi berupa penelitian untuk mengukur tingkat kemampuan HOTS peserta didik. Penelitian menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif. Populasi penelitian adalah seluruh peserta didik kelas X Cambridge di SMA Bakti Mulya 400 Jakarta Selatan. Pengumpulan data menggunakan lembar observasi kegiatan pembelajaran dan instrument tes essay. Hasil penelitian yang didapatkan menunjukan bahwa kemampuan HOTS peserta didik kelas X Cambridge sudah baik. Nilai rata-rata keseluruhan peserta didik kelas X Cambridge adalah 81. Pada tingkat kognitif C4 (menganalisis) didapatkan nilai 72, tingkat kognitif C5 (menevaluasi) 78 dan tingkat kognitif C6 (mencipta) 78. Dengan demikian, kemampuan HOTS siswa kelas X Cambridge sudah baik.
