Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan format analisis kritis artikel (FAKA) yang berpotensi untuk mengembangkan keterampilan berpikir kritis. Keterampilan berpikir kritis mahasiswa perlu dikembangkan sebagai salah satu kecakapan hidup abad 21 yang sangat diperlukan untuk menghadapi tantangan zaman. Keterampilan berpikir kritis juga diperlukan untuk mengembangkan proposal penelitian. Salah satu kegiatan yang harus dilakukan mahasiswa adalah melakukan analisis kritis (antis) artikel. Kegiatan melakukan antis artikel perlu dilakukan oleh setiap peneliti agar dapat memposisikan penelitiannya dalam state of the art penelitian dalam bidangnya. Kegiatan ini juga dimaksudkan untuk menambah wawasan dan rujukan yang dapat digunakan untuk membahas hasil penelitiannya. Dalam rangka melatih mahasiswa melakukan kegiatan antis artikel diperlukan FAKA yang tepat. Berdasarkan pengalaman membelajarkan metodologi penelitian selama bertahun-tahun dirasakan bahwa pemilihan FAKA sangatmenentukan kualitas dan pemanfaatan hasil antis artikel yang dilakukan oleh mahasiswa. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif. Metode penelitian deskriptif digunakan untuk mendeskripsikan format analisis kritis artikel yang dapat mengembangkan keterampilan berpikir kritis dan mendeskripsikan formatpenilaian hasil analisis kritis. FAKA yang berpotensi untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis mahasiswa tersusun atas calon judul proposal penelitian, nomor urut artikel yang diantis, nama, NIM, kelas tanggal, referensi, kualitas jurnal, tujuan, metodologi penelitian, konsep yang dirujuk/dijadikan wacana, kelebihan dan kekurangan artikel, pertanyaan yang dimunculkan, konsep yang dipelajari, dan refleksi diri. Hasil penelitian ini adalah diperoleh FAKA berdasarkan FRISCO yang dapat memberdayakan keterampilan berpikir kritis mahasiswa. Masing-masing bagian dari FAKA dapat melatih mahasiswa untuk melakukan analisis secara kritis mengenai bagaimana artikel yang dianalisis kritis tersebut dapat dimanfaatkan oleh mahasiswa dalam rangka penyusunan proposal penelitiannya. This study is describing the article critical analysis format (FAKA) which has a potential to develop critical thinking skills. Descriptive research methods are used to describe the format of critical analysis that can develop critical thinking skills and describe the format of assessment of critical analysis results. FAKA has a potential to improve SCTS composed of prospective research proposal titles, the ordinal number of articles being analyzed, names, NIMs, date classes, references, journal quality, objectives, research methodology, referenced concepts, advantages, and disadvantages of articles, questions raised, concepts learned, and self-reflection. The results of this study are obtained by FAKA based on FRISCO which can empower SCTS. Each part of FAKA can train students to analyze critically about how the critically analyzed articles can be utilized by students in order to compile their research proposals.

Abstract

Keterampilan berpikir analitis merupakan kemampuan yang harus dikuasai mahasiswa untuk menyelesaikan masalah dalam biologi. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif yang bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan berpikir analitis mahasiswa. Sejumlah 38 mahasiswa yang telah menempuh mata kuliah biologi umum menjadi subyek penelitian. Instrumen yang digunakan pada penelitian ini berupa tes tipe uraian yang mengacu pada keterampilan berpikir analisis yang terdiri dari membedakan (differentiating), mengorganisasi (organizing), dan menghubungkan (attributing) masing-masing indikator 3 soal. Berdasarkan analisis data dideskripsikan kemampuan analisis mahasiswa pada t indikator membedakan 3,01 (baik), mengorganisasikan 2,93 (baik), dan menghubungkan 2,47 (kurang baik). Indikator menghubungkan perlu mendapatkan perhatian lebih.Kata Kunci: keterampilan berpikir analitis, profil, dan biologi umum.

Abstract

Scientific Literacy (SL) is an important competency to deal with and keep up with the increasingly sophisticated technological developments. However, information about the SL of prospective gifted young scientists over 15 years old has not been widely revealed holistically. Therefore, this survey research aimed to investigate the SL performance of prospective gifted young scientists holistically and compare the SL performance based on the grade level. A total of 278 students from a public senior high school in Jombang Regency, East Java Province, Indonesia, participated in this research. They were asked to take the SL test with 18 essential question items. As a result, the participants still showed low SL performance (total success rate = 40). The one-way ANOVA test results indicated no significant difference in the participants' SL performance based on the grade level. Therefore, three recommendations were provided: teachers should use various learning models, SL should be an explicit focus in science and non-science classrooms, and schools need to be equipped with supporting facilities to accommodate student readiness to practice SL.

Abstract

Based on observations and interviews of the implementation of science lesson in the SMP 2 Ponorogo, it was obtained that the learning strategy is teacher-centered, with dominant learning methods are lecture, discussion, and question-and-answer. The teacher was not giving the opportunity to students to develop thinking in finding the concept,  less interaction among students and between students and teacher, low student activity and more than 60% of students have not reached the specified school’s KKM. The implementation of plasma cluster cooperative learning strategy (PCCLS) is expected to increase students' activities and cognitive science learning outcomes. Classroom Action Research (CAR) was carried out in 3 cycles, with 3 stages: planning; implementation and observation; and reflection. At each meeting in the implementation phase, the  PCCLS was implemented with lesson study pattern. The implementation was conducted in class VIII-C (special gym-class) SMPN2 Ponorogo with 32 students, 21 males and 11 females  in 2013/2014. The results showed that the application of PCCLS can enhance the students’ activities and cognitive science learning outcomes. It was concluded that the implementation of PCCLS can enhance the eight grade students’activities and cognitive learning outcomes. By learning the plasma cluster it will be student-centered and cooperative learning, students are active and creative, which in turn can more easily understand the material. It is recommended that teachers implement variations of classroom instructional strategies, one of which is plasma cluster cooperative learning strategies (PCCLS). Keywords : Cooperative Strategy, Plasma Cluster, Activity,  Learning Outcomes, Cognitive

Abstract

Knowledge of the environment is one of the first-year course that must be taken by students of  Biology Education Program in STKIP Hamzanwadi Selong. So far, the knowledge of the environment course was conducted using conventional methods that did not train students' critical thinking skills. In an effort to improve the quality of the course, research has been done using PBL and GI methods that aim to improve students' critical thinking skills in biology STKIP Hamzanwadi Selong through the stages of Lesson Study activities. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The  subjects were  75 second semester Biology students of academic year 2012/2013 consisting of three classes. Lesson Study is conducted in class II B for four cycles, each cycle consisting of Plan, Do and See phases. The results of each cycle reflecting on learning in class II B was applied to the class II A and II C. The instrument to measure critical thinking skills using analytical test which refers to the SOLO taxonomy. Based on the data analysis, the descriptive results showed that pretest critical thinking skills of students as a whole are  86.67% in prestructural stage and 13.34% in unistructural stage. While the post-test results of students' critical thinking skills in overall 69.34% were in prestructural stage, 29.34% were in unistructural stage  and 1.34% at the multistructural stage. Based on the data obtained, it  is known the critical thinking skills have increased by 17.34% after applying PBL learning models combined with GI. Learning through PBL models combined GI train students to solve environmental problems encountered in investigative activities that can improve critical thinking skills. Abstract

Local potential is one of the useful thing of biological resources. The use of biological resources was done to fulfill the needs of human life. The necessities of life is going increase that causes exploitation of biological resources continue to be made in larger numbers. Therefore, conservation efforts must begin immediately. This study aimed to determine human role in conservation efforts. Descriptive exploratory study method was used to know the role of communities around Mountains of Muria in conservation efforts. This study discussed the potency and conservation of parijoto. Some conservation efforts was carried out to protect parijoto in the area of Mountains of Muria they are cultivation of local crops either independently or with the help of the government, the use of local wisdom, the establishment of forest and conservation communities which be founded by the Foundation of Sunan Muria, and the news media roles. The results showed a wide range of local community participation, private organizations, and governments in conservation efforts parijoto. It was an effort to save the preservation one of biological resources in Indonesia especially in area of Muria Mountain. Abstract

As one of the 21st-century skills, critical thinking (CT) is required for working in an interdisciplinary setting. Educators are expected to provide learning activities that enhance students’ CT skills. Biology, particularly Cell Biology, is seen as challenging since the topics covered therein relate to those covered in the following semester. This research was conducted out as a preliminary study to improve the quality of the learning process, especially in the Cell Biology course. It aimed to identify students’ CT skills in mastering concepts about Cell Membranes. This study enlisted the participation of 105 students from two universities. This research used an instrument test essay using the rubric CT skills. The findings revealed that undergraduate students’ CT skills were classified as basic in mastering the concept of Cell Membrane.

Abstract

The study aimed to analyze the relationship between scientific literacy and critical thinking in primary school teacher education undergraduate students. The subjects in the study were 127 students majoring in the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education at a private university in Madiun, Indonesia. The type of research used is correlational research with the research instrument multiple-choice tests. Data analysis was performed using the Pearson correlation test using SPSS version 25, which had previously been tested for normality and homogeneity. The normality test results of critical thinking ability and scientific literacy data obtained sig. 0.406, the data has been normally distributed. Furthermore, the data tested for homogeneity and scientific data literacy sig. 0.679 and critical thinking data sig. 0.944, so that the data was declared homogeneous and continued with the Pearson correlation test, which obtained a sig. 0.44. The results showed a relationship between scientific literacy and the critical thinking of prospective teacher students. This result indicated that understanding science requires good thinking, especially critical thinking.

Abstract

This research is a mixed study (quantitative-qualitative) that examines learning theories to support the PQDiS-CSR learning model in biology and science learning and tests the validation of the PQDiS-CSR learning model based on survey result from FGD participants. The research subjects are biology and science teachers as well as education experts from Indonesia through FGD (focus group discussion) activities. The results of the study show that there are three learning theories that support this learning model; behaviorism learning theory, constructivism, and information processing systems. he results of the validity test on the development of learning models based on the results of the survey from FGD participants were 4.36 categorized as valid and usable.
