Abstract

Fourth graders' low learning engagement in elementary schools can hinder learning, especially in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) subjects that require contextual understanding. We need innovative learning techniques and media to engage pupils. Thus, this study examines how the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) methodology and Explosion Box media affect fourth graders' IPAS learning in elementary school. This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design in a nonequivalent control group posttest-only format. The sample consisted of 40 students divided into experimental and control classes at elementary school 3 Way Galih. Learning activity data were collected using a validated and reliable questionnaire. Data analysis was carried out using an independent sample t-test. The results showed a significant difference in learning activity between the experimental and control groups, with a Sig. (2-tailed) value = 0.000 < 0.05 and a t-count value of 4.965 > t-table 1.685. These results show that the CTL model with Explosion Box media boosts student learning. This medium creates an interactive, contextual, and engaging learning environment, encouraging student participation. Effective learning model recommendations come from this research. IPAS teachers can use the CTL model and Explosion Box media to motivate, engage, and contextualize elementary school pupils, supporting holistic educational goals.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Flipped Classroom model in elementary education through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. The study is motivated by the need for innovative learning models that can enhance students’ motivation, engagement, and academic achievement in the context of 21st-century education. Data were collected from 86 Scopus-indexed articles published between 2020 and 2024 using the Publish or Perish software, and subsequently screened following the PRISMA guidelines. A total of 35 articles that met the inclusion criteria were analyzed using a bibliometric approach with the aid of VOSviewer software. The results reveal that the Flipped Classroom model has a positive impact on improving students’ learning motivation, engagement, and conceptual understanding at the elementary school level. The publication trend showed a significant increase in 2021, mainly influenced by the widespread adoption of distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Indonesia, Malaysia, and Turkey emerged as the top three contributing countries in this research area. However, several challenges remain, including limited technological infrastructure, teachers’ readiness in designing digital learning, and the need for parental support at home. Overall, this study confirms that the Flipped Classroom is an effective instructional strategy to foster 21st-century skills in elementary education. The findings are expected to serve as a valuable reference for teachers, schools, and policymakers in developing innovative learning strategies that align with technological advancements and the characteristics of elementary school learners.

Abstract

Background: Dengue remains a significant health problem in Indonesia, including Batam. Because its symptoms resemble other infections, early laboratory testing is crucial. The non-structural protein one rapid diagnostic test (NS1 RDT) is widely used, but its accuracy depends on the day of illness, immune status, and viral serotype. Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic validity of NS1 RDT compared to RT-PCR, assessing the level of agreement between the two methods, and analysing the influence of clinical phase and serotype on the results of the examination. Methods: A retrospective analytic study used secondary data from 309 suspected dengue cases tested by NS1 RDT at primary care and confirmed by RT-PCR with serotyping at Batam Public Health Laboratory (2022–2024). Diagnostic performance was calculated from 2×2 tables; concordance was analysed with McNemar's test and Cohen's kappa. Results: The NS1 RDT showed 75.8% sensitivity, 81.2% specificity, 62.7% positive predictive value, 88.9% negative predictive value, and 79.6% overall accuracy, with moderate agreement with RT-PCR (κ = 0.54). NS1 positivity peaked on illness days 1–3 and varied by serotype, with the highest for DENV-3.Conclusions: The NS1 RDT showed good diagnostic validity with moderate agreement and sensitivity and high specificity in early dengue disease screening compared to RT-PCR, so the diagnostic performance of the NS1 RDT can be used in local epidemiological testing in Batam.

Abstract

Community service activities aim to transfer knowledge and technology related to the prevention and treatment of foot-and-mouth disease. The activity was carried out on June 22, 2025, at the Gemah Ripah livestock group, Jatikuwung, Gondangrejo, Karanganyar. The method used in the community service activities was Participatory Action Research (PAR). The community service began with an initial visit to the livestock group to identify the problems farmers faced. The activity continued with a group discussion on foot-and-mouth disease and its prevention and treatment. The following agenda item was to practice with a chopper machine and implement biosecurity using an electric tank. Monitoring and evaluation were conducted to monitor livestock health after the program. The results of the community service activity showed that 81.75% of livestock group members were of productive age, the majority of farmers were junior high/high school graduates, and they had an average of 6-10 years of livestock experience. The morbidity of foot and mouth disease reached 88.9% with a mortality rate of up to 5.5%. Implementation of biosecurity in livestock groups is still low (18.75%), and vaccination has been carried out by 43.75% of livestock breeders. 83.3% of farmers handled sick livestock themselves. Through group discussions and practical activities, farmers' knowledge increased by 60.6%. The conclusion is that this community service activity improved farmers' knowledge, which can serve as a basis for disease prevention and management.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to create an electronic module focused on thematic Al-Qur'an and Hadith for third-grade students at Elementary School. The participants in this research were third-grade students from Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri 2 Bandar Lampung, Sekolah Dasar IT Pringsewu, and Sekolah Dasar Negeri 1 Sumberejo. This development research follows the steps outlined by Branch using the ADDIE design model, which includes analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Data collection was conducted using interview guidelines, assessment sheets for the e-module product, and observation sheets for both teachers and students. Data analysis employed quantitative descriptive analysis techniques. The instrument used was an assessment scale to evaluate the module's feasibility and to gauge student responses regarding its appeal, utilizing a Likert scale formatted as a checklist. Validation results from six experts indicated that the two media experts rated the module with an average score of 90%, categorizing it as very feasible; the two material experts scored an average of 93%, also in the very feasible category; and the two language experts gave an average score of 94%, again classified as very feasible. The responses from educator I to the electronic module yielded a score of 90% (very feasible), educator II received a score of 86% (very feasible), and educator III scored 93% (very feasible). In the small group test conducted at school A, the module achieved a score of 97% in the very appropriate category, while the large-scale tests at two schools resulted in scores of 94% at school B and 96% at school C, both categorized as very appropriate. Therefore, it can be concluded that the developed electronic module aligns with the teachings of Al-Qur'an Hadith and environmental education, adheres to the national education curriculum, and is highly suitable for use as instructional material.
