Abstract

Purpose – Students’ critical thinking skills in the History of Socialist Economic Thought course are still low because learning is mostly lecture-based and less interactive. Therefore, innovative media are needed to make learning more engaging and outcome oriented. This study aims to develop Outcome-Based Education (OBE)-based Digital Mind Mapping media and examine its feasibility and effectiveness in improving students’ critical thinking skills.Method – The study used a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The subjects were 34 students of the Economics Education Study Program at Universitas Negeri Medan. Data were collected using tests (one group pretest–posttest) and non-test instruments such as observation, interviews, and questionnaires.Findings – Validation results showed that the media was very feasible, with an average score of 87.14% from material, media, and design experts. Effectiveness testing obtained an N-Gain value of 0.58 (moderate) and Cohen’s d of 2.26 (very large effect), proving that the media effectively enhanced students’ critical thinking. Research Implications – The findings strengthen the constructive alignment principle of OBE and support Mayer’s multimedia learning theory, emphasizing that visual and interactive media can improve students’ engagement and higher-order thinking skills.

Abstract

Abstract

This research involves internal factors in the form of mathematical logical intelligence, and controlling students' initial knowledge. This research compares the learning outcomes of an inferential statistics course that uses a flipped classroom with direct attraction in terms of mathematical logical intelligence by controlling prior knowledge. The research subjects comprised two Unimed Economic Education study program classes for the odd semester of 2023/2024. This type of research is quasi-experimental with a posttest-only control group design. Data collection uses test questions in the form of multiple choices. The data analysis technique uses covariance analysis. The research results show that there are significant differences in student learning outcomes, in the flipped classroom model compared to the direct instruction method, after controlling for prior knowledge; there is a significant difference in learning outcomes for students with high mathematical logical intelligence compared to those with low, after controlling for prior knowledge; The flipped classroom model is more effective in improving learning outcomes, especially for students with low logical-mathematical intelligence; Both learning models can provide good results for students with high logical-mathematical intelligence.

Abstract

This journal reviews the influence of online learning media on the learning interest of class B students in Unimed Econonics Education. In this research, data collection methods were used using questionnaires. The questionnaire was distributed to 30 sources appointed by the author. From students who are currently carrying out the online learning process and student responses to several questions created by researchers. From the diagram created by the researcher, it is clear that the dominant answer from students is that they do not agree and it can be proven that students do not like online learning and it makes it difficult for them to learn or understand the material. The application of online learning media is expected to determine students’ interest in learning in the economics education study program at Medan State University.

Abstract

Unemployment and poverty are two social problems that are often interrelated in the context of a region's economic development. North Sumatra Province, as a province that has a variety of potential resources, also faces serious challenges related to unemployment and poverty. This research aims to analyze the influence of unemployment on poverty in North Sumatra Province. In carrying out this research, the researcher used a research method, namely the quantitative method of inferential statistics. The data used in this research is secondary data where this data was obtained by the author from the publications of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of North Sumatra Province from 2013-2022. And the data used is data on unemployment and poverty rates in North Sumatra Province. This research tests the influence of the independent variable on the dependent variable and the technique used uses SPSS which is analyzed using the classic assumption test, heteroscedasticity test, multicollinearity test, and simple regression test. The regression coefficient shows that the higher unemployment is, the more poverty tends to increase. And as for the research results obtained, namely the calculated t value is greater than the t table, then H0 is rejected. This means that there is a positive and significant influence of unemployment on poverty in North Sumatra.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the relationship between economic growth and poverty levels in North Sumatra during the period 2012 to 2022. The results of the research reveal that during this period, no significant relationship was found between economic growth and poverty levels in the North Sumatra region. Although economic growth is often considered a poverty reduction factor, this research indicates that other factors such as income distribution and social policies have a more dominant influence in determining poverty levels. These results highlight the importance of developing a more holistic policy strategy that includes income redistribution efforts and strengthening social protection as key measures to reduce poverty in North Sumatra. This research provides valuable insights for stakeholders in designing and implementing programs focused on poverty alleviation in the region during the period under study.
