Abstract

HIGHLIGHTS There is a correlation between maternal weight gain and urinary incontinence, an increase in weight during pregnancy may raise the risk of urinary incontinence. Urinary incontinence correlates with poorer quality of life in pregnant women and has the potential to affect their well-being negatively.   ABSTRACT Objective: Urinary incontinence (UI) frequently occurs in pregnancy, primarily caused by increased intra-abdominal pressure. If left unmanaged, UI can lead to both physical and psychological discomfort, potentially reducing a pregnant woman’s quality of life. This research aimed to examine the relationship between gestational weight gain and the occurrence of urinary incontinence, along with its effects on quality of life. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out among 50 pregnant women in their third trimester residing within the working area of Lebaksiu Primary Health Care, Tegal Regency, Central Java, Indonesia. Pre-pregnancy weight was extracted from the Handbook of Maternal and Child Health (MCH), while current weight was measured directly using the validated Indonesian version of the ICIQ-UI SF questionnaire, while quality of life was assessed with the Indonesian version of the WHOQOL-BREF. Both instruments were administered through face-to-face interviews. Correlation was tested using Spearman’s rank correlation, with statistical significance set at p<0.05. Results: The results showed a statistically significant positive correlation between maternal weight gain and the incidence of urinary incontinence (p=0.001; r=0.462), and a significant negative correlation between urinary incontinence and quality of life (p=0.000; r=-0.614). Seventy percent of the pregnant women experienced urinary incontinence, and 46% reported decreased quality of life. Conclusion: These findings suggest that greater maternal weight gain is associated with a higher risk of UI, and that UI negatively affects pregnant women’s quality of life. Integrating educational programs and policies that emphasize the importance of maintaining an ideal body weight during pregnancy may help prevent UI and improve the overall quality of life for pregnant women.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Around 180 to 220 million young people are living with a disability and almost 80% are in developing countries. Adolescents with intellectual disabilities (ID) face heightened risks of inappropriate sexual behavior, sexual violence, and reproductive health issues due to limited access to tailored education. Health professionals have a responsibility to educate, inform, and support adolescents with intellectual disabilities regarding their sexual and reproductive health. Aims: The purpose of this study was to explore sexual and reproductive health education for adolescents with intellectual disabilities based on the perspective of health workers. Methods: A qualitative case study was conducted with 12 health workers from four primary health centers in Pangkalpinang City. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using content analysis. Result: Analysis yielded 47 transcripts, 150 codes, 9 categories, and 4 overarching themes: Modelling, Guided Practice, Reinforcement, and Feedback. Under Modelling, key categories included the use of tangible learning media, focused educational content and adaptive communication techniques. Guided Practice involved live demonstrations, small-group settings, structured time management, and parental involvement. Reinforcement primarily took the form of positive feedback. Informants emphasized that effective sexual and reproductive health education must be repetitive, interactive, and involve parents as co-educators. Conclusion: Sexual and reproductive health education for adolescents with intellectual disabilities based on the perspective of health workers is formed by modelling, guided practice, reinforcement and feedback. These findings provide a practical, evidence-based framework for developing standardized sexual and reproductive health programs and training curricula for health workers in similar settings.

Abstract

This coverage review aims to identify the effectiveness of educational interventions and supplementary feeding as preventive measures against stunting among children aged 6 to 59 months in various countries. The methodology applied in this study follows the PRISMA guidelines to ensure a systematic and transparent review process. A comprehensive literature search was conducted through relevant electronic databases, including Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect, focusing on articles published between 2020 and 2024. Only studies written in English and examining supplementary feeding practices for children within the specified age range were included. From the total number of articles initially identified, 11 studies met all eligibility criteria and were analyzed in depth. The findings indicate that educational interventions for parents and the provision of diverse supplementary foods such as milk-based products, eggs, lipid-based supplements, and locally sourced nutrient-dense foods play a significant role in improving weight and height outcomes in young children. These foods, which are rich in protein, vitamins, minerals, and other essential micronutrients, contribute substantially to supporting growth and preventing nutritional deficiencies. Furthermore, the results highlight that appropriate feeding practices by caregivers, particularly mothers, are crucial for the successful prevention of stunting. Overall, this review concludes that proper supplementary feeding strategies, combined with strengthened parental education on nutrition, can effectively promote optimal growth and development in children under five. Continuous efforts to improve community awareness, enhance feeding practices, and ensure accessibility of nutritious supplementary foods are essential strategies to reduce stunting prevalence globally

Abstract

Introduction: Legal protection for healthcare professionals is a critical issue, particularly concerning pregnancy termination procedures involving medical emergencies. This study focuses on how Indonesian law regulates pregnancy termination in cases involving anencephalic fetuses, especially when the gestational age exceeds 14 weeks, and examines the protection afforded to doctors and the practical challenges they face. The research aims to analyze the legal framework provided under Law Number 17 of 2023 on Health and assess its implementation in the field. Method: Using a juridical-normative and empirical-juridical approach with a descriptive-analytical method, this study utilizes primary data from interviews with doctors, legal scholars, and religious figures, and secondary data from relevant laws and academic literature. Result: The findings reveal that while the law allows pregnancy termination under 14 weeks for medical emergencies or pregnancies from sexual violence, it lacks clear provisions for cases exceeding 14 weeks, such as anencephaly. Although anencephaly poses a serious medical risk, legal uncertainty persists for healthcare workers who perform terminations after this threshold. Conclussion: Terminations conducted following medical standards and with consent should not be criminalized. Therefore, legal reforms and clearer regulatory guidelines are essential to ensure adequate protection for medical personnel handling such exceptional cases.
