Abstract

One important factor influencing moms' and babies' health is the husband's engagement throughout pregnancy. Numerous studies have demonstrated that spouses' active involvement can enhance mothers' physical and mental well-being and solidify family ties.Cultural conventions that view pregnancy as the responsibility of women and spouses' ignorance of pregnancy health frequently hinder this involvement.Reviewing the role of husbands in helping wives throughout pregnancy and identifying the obstacles they encounter are the goals of the study, and the study's ramifications include the necessity of methods to boost husband participation in pregnancy support, including social interventions, health policies, and education. It is anticipated that this will strengthen family ties and enhance the health of mothers and babies. There are inclusion and exclusion criteria, 16 references from 2019–2024, and a narrative review design for the literature study that supports the idea that having a husband during pregnancy benefits both the mother and the fetus. The analysis is presented narratively using data collection methods from the PubMed and Google Scholar databases. The husband's engagement in the pregnancy and the variables influencing it are the primary subjects of discussion. The findings demonstrated that spouses who were physically and emotionally involved throughout pregnancy improved the health of both the mother and the unborn child and improved family ties.Obstacles include societal expectations and husbands' ignorance of pregnancy health issues continue to be problems. This study highlights the value of social interventions and health education for husbands to promote their involvement during pregnancy. Improved maternal and child well-being outcomes are anticipated with increased involvement.

Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is frequently reported by adolescents. Physical exercises is one method of overcoming the symptoms of primary dysmenorrhea. Consistent physical activity has been shown to induce the synthesis of endorphins, which function as analgesics within the body. This study presents a comprehensive review to synthesize evidence regarding the relation between physical activity or exercise with dysmenorrhea and how exercise can ameliorate dysmenorrhea in adolescents. This study followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) method to identify articles published within the last three years (2021-2023) via PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. This process yielded seven pertinent studies. The studies have demonstrated that engaging in physical activity can effectively alleviate the symptoms associated with menstrual discomfort. Physical exercise in regular time for a minimum of thirty minutes, three times per week, can also contribute to the alleviation of pain associated with menstrual discomfort among adolescent females diagnosed with primary dysmenorrhea. Isometric exercise, massage therapy, yoga, electrotherapy, connective tissue manipulation, stretching, kinesio tape, progressive relaxation exercise, aviva stretching exercise, stretching exercises, core strengthening exercise and aerobic exercise are the recommended forms of physical exercise in reducing the impact of primary dysmenorrhea. However, the extent to which one experiences these benefits is contingent upon the nature and intensity of the exercise.

Abstract

Education serves as a transformative process that enhances human potential for the betterment. The Minister of Education and Culture initiated the Independent Learning-Independent Campus Program (MBKM) in 2020 to equip graduates with the skills to meet global challenges. However, since its inception at universities, the health study program curriculum has struggled to align with this policy. This study investigates the MBKM's implementation within the health study program curriculum. A literature review was conducted, sourcing material from databases such as PubMed, Science Direct, Google Scholar, and Worldcat, focusing on literature published from 2020 to 2024 in both Indonesian and English with full-text availability. The literature review aimed to provide a thorough understanding of the subject, with inclusion and exclusion criteria ensuring the relevance and integrity of the literature. The findings reveal that several health study programs have adopted the Independent Learning-Independent Campus Program, noting improvements in students' hard and soft skills in preparation for employment. Nonetheless, challenges persist in the Independent Learning-Independent Campus Program execution, including inadequate preparedness for learning, lecturer/facilitator involvement, and a need for more detailed information on MBKM Campus Program's implementation.

Abstract

Obstetricians are often confronted with medical malpractice lawsuits, even when they have acted in accordance with professional standards, medical service standards, operational procedures, and medical ethics. Medical malpractice is generally defined as negligence or deviation from professional standards that results in serious harm to patients (Fiscina, 1999). This study aims to examine the application of the concept of medical malpractice along with its legal implications and to analyze the forms of legal protection available to obstetricians under Law Number 17 of 2023 on Health, viewed from the perspective of the principle of justice. Using a normative juridical method with descriptive-analytical specifications, the research employed a literature study and qualitative deductive analysis. The results indicate that legal protection for obstetricians consists of two dimensions: preventive and repressive. Preventive protection includes the implementation of informed consent, proper medical records, and compliance with standard operating procedures. Repressive protection involves legal defense mechanisms and institutional or professional organizational support. However, this protection remains suboptimal, as the decisions of the Indonesian Medical Disciplinary Board (MKDKI) are not always taken into account by the courts (Rahman, 2022). From the perspective of Rawls’ principle of justice, protection for obstetricians should ensure a balanced recognition of both patients’ and doctors’ rights, thereby promoting fairness and equitable justice for all parties (Rawls, 1971).

Abstract

AbstractObjectives: Extremely Low Birth Weight (ELBW) is a critical factor influencing neonatal morbidity and mortality. Maternal anemia has been linked to negative pregnancy outcomes; the precise hemoglobin threshold for predicting ELBW risk remains poorly defined, especially in low-resource environments. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was carried out at Ciawi District Hospital between 2019 and 2020. Data from medical records on maternal hemoglobin levels (g/dL) and neonatal birth weights (grams) were extracted for analysis. Statistical methods employed included the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests, as well as ROC curve analysis. Results: The study comprised 320 cases. The optimal cutoff value for maternal hemoglobin to accurately predict ELBW was identified as 9.25 g/dL (AUC 0.615; p = 0.045). Mothers with hemoglobin levels below this threshold exhibited a 2.1-fold increase in the risk of delivering ELBW infants (p = 0.039). Additionally, the negative predictive value was determined to be 94.05%, indicating that this threshold may serve as a viable screening tool for assessing the risk of ELBW.Conclusion: Maternal hemoglobin levels below 9.25 g/dL are significantly correlated with an elevated risk of ELBW. This threshold may function as an effective early screening parameter for identifying high-risk pregnancies, thereby improving maternal and neonatal health outcomes. Keywords: Birth Weight, ELBW, Hemoglobin, Maternal Anemia, Risk Screening Evaluasi Ulang Prediktor Berat Badan Lahir Sangat Rendah: Dominasi Hemoglobin pada Usia Ibu dan Penemuan 9,25 g/dL sebagai Ambang Risiko Baru AbstrakTujuan: Berat Badan Lahir Sangat Rendah (BBLR) merupakan faktor penting yang memengaruhi morbiditas dan mortalitas neonatal.

Abstract

AbstractIntroduction: An intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) is a rare condition but potentially life-threatening event, especially in pregnancy, and could happen in patients with eclampsia. At Hasan Sadikin General Hospital (RSHS), several eclampsia cases are admitted annually, some with worsening neurological conditions. Neuroimaging using CT-Scan is indicated in patients with seizures, decreased consciousness, or visual disturbances to detect intracranial pathology.  Case: We reported three cases of maternal eclampsia, two patients' chief complaint was seizures, but all of our patients were unconscious. All of our patients had a previous history of pre-eclampsia in the last pregnancy. All of our patients performed a CT scan performed in postpartum patients as a neurologic examination. All of our patients have worse outcomes. The Medical and Health Research Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Medicine, Padjajaran University with Ref no: DP.04.03/D/XIV.6.5/71/2025.Conclusion: Neuroimaging in patients with seizure-induced worsening of the condition has an important role in identifying other abnormalities, specifically intracranial hemorrhage. In this study, we conclude that patients with seizures in pregnancy should be screened with neuroimaging (computed tomography scan) to rule out central nervous system pathology, thereby improving the patient's condition and reducing maternal mortality. Abstract

Background: Primigravid women are prone to stress due to physical and psychological changes during pregnancy, which can lead to hypertension, preeclampsia, preterm birth, fetal growth restriction, and postpartum depression. While non-pharmacological interventions like hatha yoga and prenatal exercise are used to reduce stress, comparative evidence—especially on oxygen saturation (SpO₂)—is limited. This study analyzes the effects of hatha yoga and prenatal exercise on stress, blood pressure, and SpO₂ among primigravid women, and compares both interventions across these outcomes. Methods: This randomized controlled trial (RCT) followed the CONSORT 2010 guidelines. Forty-eight eligible primigravid women were selected using a probability sampling technique, specifically the simple random sampling method. Random numbers were generated using Microsoft Excel to determine participant selection from the maternal cohort register. Inclusion criteria were a normal singleton pregnancy at 24–28 weeks of gestation, maternal age 20–35 years, and normal Body Mass Index (BMI) (18.5–24.9 kg/m²). Exclusion criteria included regular exercise more than twice a week, abnormal fetal heart rate, and scheduled elective cesarean delivery. Participants were randomly assigned to either a hatha yoga group or a prenatal exercise group (24 each). Both interventions were conducted twice weekly for four weeks. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon and Mann–Whitney tests. Results: Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. Median stress scores decreased from 22 to 12 in the hatha yoga group and from 22 to 17 in the prenatal exercise group (p < 0.001). Median SpO₂ increased from 96.88% to 98.38% and from 96.81% to 97.00%, respectively (p = 0.002). Median systolic pressure changed from 120.06 to 121.31 mmHg and 118.75 to 117.44 mmHg (p = 0.009), while diastolic pressure showed no significant difference (p = 0.076). Overall, hatha yoga showed greater improvements in stress, SpO₂, and blood pressure stability than prenatal exercise. Conclusion: Hatha yoga proved more effective than prenatal exercise in reducing stress, increasing SpO2, and stabilizing systolic blood pressure among primigravid women, although no significant difference was found in diastolic pressure. These findings strengthen the evidence supporting yoga as a safe, non-pharmacological approach to enhance maternal physiological and psychological well-being during pregnancy.
