Abstract

Abstract: Pregnancy is a critical period involving significant physiological and psychological changes, particularly in primigravida women who are more susceptible to anxiety and stress. Elevated stress levels during pregnancy may increase the risk of complications like high blood pressure, preeclampsia, and premature delivery. Non-pharmacological interventions like Hatha Yoga and gymnastic prenatalhave been widely recommended to improve maternal well-being. The purpose of this research was to evaluate and compare the impacts of two different interventions on maternal psychological and physiological health through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. Relevant literature was retrieved from databases including Pubmed, Scopus, ScinceDirect, Google Scholar, focusing on research published between 2014 and 2024. The findings indicate that Hatha Yoga is more effective in reducing anxiety, cortisol levels, and systolic blood pressure, while prenatal gymnastic better supported diastolic blood pressure regulation and physical endurance for labor. Both interventions contribute to better cardiovascular function, increased oxygen saturation, and a smoother labor process. Additionally, yoga is associated with improved neonatal outcomes, while studies on prenatal exercise’s effects on newborn health remain limited. Future research should explore the long-term effects and key differences between these interventions to determine the most effective approach for maternal and neonatal health. These findings support integrating yoga and gymnastic prenatalinto antenatal care programs to enhance pregnancy outcomes.

Abstract

Surgical site infections are infections that occur within 30 days of a surgical procedure, including infections in the post-sectio caesarea area that are common and can cause significant morbidity. This study aims to comprehensively identify and analyze the risk factors associated with post-sectio caesarea infection. The method used was a literature review with a PEO framework (Population: post-sectio caesarean section; Exposure: associated risk factors; Result: incidence of infection). Article searches were carried out systematically in official databases such as Google Scholar, Pubmed, Science Direct, and Scopus with the keywords "risk factors" AND "surgical site infections" AND "sectio caesarea", published 2018-2023. The results of the study found eight articles that showed risk factors for post-cesarean section infection, including: the number of vaginal examinations ≥ 5 times, rupture of the amniotic sac ≥ 12 hours, chorioamnionitis, long duration of labor (≥12 hours and ≥ 24 hours), estimated intraoperative blood loss of 500 to ≥ 1000 cc, intraoperative blood transfusion, emergency sectio caesarean section, operative duration of more than 1 hour,  previous history of cesarean section, obesity, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and anemia. Understanding and managing infection risk factors effectively is expected to reduce the infection rate in the surgical area, and infection prevention can be done by implementing treatment packages.

Abstract

Background: Maternal mental health challenges, particularly depression and anxiety, are significantly associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes, including preterm birth, low birth weight, and postpartum depression. However, the role of psychosocial factors in alleviating these risks remains poorly understood. These concerns are often overlooked during prenatal care, especially in low-resource settings. Objective: This scoping review seeks to examine the influence of maternal mental health disorders on pregnancy outcomes and to identify psychosocial factors that may mitigate associated risks. Methods: A scoping review was conducted utilizing databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect. Fifteen studies were selected from an initial pool of 831 publications published between 2019 and 2024, according to the established inclusion criteria. Results: Our review demonstrates a significant correlation between maternal depression and anxiety and adverse pregnancy outcomes, including preterm birth, intrauterine growth restriction, low birth weight, and cesarean delivery. Psychosocial factors, such as partner support and stress-coping strategies, significantly mitigate these risks. Timely identification and thorough prenatal mental health therapies are essential for improving long-term outcomes for mothers and infants. Conclusion: Maternal mental health profoundly affects pregnancy outcomes. Incorporating mental health assessments and psychosocial support into standard prenatal care is crucial for mitigating negative effects. Future research should concentrate on creating scalable therapies customized for various populations and providing ongoing care during the perinatal period. Abstract

Perineal rupture is a common complication during vaginal delivery and can lead to long-term health consequences for the mother. This study aims to identify the risk factors associated with perineal rupture in normal vaginal delivery. A scoping review was conducted by analyzing relevant literature from 2020 to 2024. The results indicate that major risk factors for perineal rupture include birth weight, parity, duration of the second stage of labor, and the use of obstetric instruments. Additionally, pregnancy exercise and perineal massage were found to be effective in reducing the incidence of perineal rupture, particularly in primiparous women. Proper management of labor, including monitoring fetal weight and employing appropriate medical techniques, plays a significant role in minimizing the risk of perineal rupture. This study recommends the implementation of evidence-based preventive measures to reduce the prevalence of perineal rupture and its long-term impacts on maternal health.

Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to describe the epidemiological characteristics of placenta accrete spectrum (PAS) and to identify contributing factors of the patients treated at Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital, Bandung. PAS is a serious obstetric complication caused by abnormal trophoblast invasion into the myometrium. Historically rare—1 in 30,000 conceptions in 1960—its incidence has increased significantly, now occurring in 1 in 500 to 1 in 533 pregnancies. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using secondary data from 2019–2023. Patient characteristics were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Result: This study shows the median age of patients was 35 years (23 – 45 years). Nearly half (49.1%) had a history of one prior cesarean section. Urinary tract complications occurred in 8.5% and digestive tract involvement in 9.4% of cases. Additionally, 84.9% of neonates had low birth weight. Higher degrees of PAS were more frequently managed with hysterectomy. However, so far there is no guideline stating the definite indications for conservative management and hysterectomy. Conclusion: The study highlights the importance of risk identification and prenatal care in managing PAS cases and reducing adverse outcomes. Further longitudinal research is necessary to explore associations between identified risk factors and maternal-fetal outcomes.

Abstract

Health education plays a critical role in enhancing individuals' knowledge, attitudes, and skills to address health issues such as HIV/AIDS. Given the rising prevalence of HIV/AIDS among adolescents, effective health education is essential for mitigating social stigma and boosting self-efficacy in this group. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of HIV/AIDS health education in improving self-efficacy and reducing stigma among adolescents. A scoping review methodology was employed, following the PRISMA-ScR guidelines, with literature searches conducted across academic databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, and Scopus. The results indicate that while numerous educational interventions have been implemented, few directly address the psychological impacts of stigma and self-efficacy. This study concludes that well-designed educational programs can alter adolescents' perceptions of HIV/AIDS, enhance their self-confidence, and reduce societal stigma. These programs improve adolescents’ understanding of HIV/AIDS prevention while alleviating the anxiety and fear often linked to social stigma. The findings are expected to provide valuable insights for developing more effective HIV/AIDS health education initiatives, focusing on stigma reduction and the enhancement of self-efficacy among adolescents.

Abstract

Background: The role of fathers in childcare is increasingly recognized as essential to promoting family well-being, particularly through the provision of paternity leave policies that enable fathers to participate actively in caregiving during the early stages of a child's life. Empirical evidence suggests that paternal involvement has significant positive impacts on maternal health and child development. However, the implementation and effectiveness of paternity leave policies remain inconsistent across countries, with many failing to utilize them optimally to support familial health. Objective: This systematic review aims to evaluate the impact of paternity leave on maternal and child health by synthesizing findings from recent quantitative studies on policy implementation. Methods: Following PRISMA guidelines, a systematic search was conducted across PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, EBSCOhost, and SpringerLink, targeting articles published between 2019 and 2024. Eligible studies included quantitative analyses assessing the effects of paternity leave on health outcomes among fathers, mothers, and children. Studies focusing solely on maternity leave or lacking relevant health outcomes were excluded. Two independent reviewers assessed the quality and relevance of the selected studies. Results: Of 712 articles identified, 15 met the inclusion criteria. Findings consistently showed that paternity leave was associated with reduced postpartum depression, prolonged breastfeeding duration, and improved child health outcomes, although variations in policy structure and implementation were noted. Conclusion: Paternity leave significantly contributes to maternal mental health, supports breastfeeding practices, and enhances child development. These findings underscore the necessity for more equitable and standardized paternity leave policies to support family health. Keywords: paternity leave; maternal health; child well-being; health outcomes;  family policy
