Abstract

Background: Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the world after heart and cancer and the disease that causes serious and permanent disability is the first in the world. Hydrotherapy in stroke plays a role in developing, maintaining, and restoring movement and function with motor training based on an understanding of the pathophysiology, neurophysiology, kinematics and kinetics of normal motion. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of hydrotherapy on improving motor functional ability in post-stroke patients.Subjects and Method: This study was a meta-analysis with the following PICO, population: stroke patients. Intervention: administration of hydrotherapy. Comparison: Standard therapy. Result: motor functional improvement. The articles used in this study were obtained from three databases, namely Google Scholar, Pubmed, and Science Direct. Keywords to search for articles “hydrotherapy” OR “Aquatic therapy” AND “functional enhancement” AND “post stroke”. The articles included are full-text English with a randomized control trial study design from 2002 to 2022. Article selection was carried out using PRISMA flow diagrams. Articles were analyzed using the Review Manager 5.3 application. Results: A meta-analysis of 9 studies from China, Korea, Italy, Spain and Brazil concluded that hydrotherapy has an effect on post-stroke functional improvement. Post-stroke patients who received hydrotherapy intervention had motor functional ability 0.68 units higher than those who did not receive hydrotherapy. The difference was significant (SMD= 0.68; 95% CI = 0.44 to 0.91; p=0.001).Conclusion: Hydrotherapy improves motor functional ability of post-stroke patients. Keywords: Hydrotherapy, functional enhancement, post strokeCorrespondence: Lilik Sigit Wibisono. Abstract

Background: In Indonesia, low back pain is a common health problem that can interfere with a person's productivity in carrying out activities due to the manifestations of the pain it causes. Acupuncture therapy is one of the complementary treatments that is quite effective in reducing the intensity of low back pain. This study aims to estimate the effectiveness of acupuncture therapy to reduce pain and improve quality of life in patients with low back pain.Subjects and Method: This study is a systematic review and meta-analysis with PICO, Population: Low back pain patients, Intervention: Acupuncture therapy, Comparison: No acupuncture therapy, Outcome: Pain reduction and quality of life improvement. It was measured using the Oswestry Disability Index. The article search process was carried out between 2006-2022 using 3 databases, including Google Scholar, PubMed, and Science Direct. The keywords used in the database search were “acupuncture” AND “oswestry disability index” AND “quality of life” AND “low back pain”. The inclusion criteria for full text articles using a Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) study design by including the results of the study in the form of the number of respondents, the mean and standard deviation (SD) values, for articles using English and Indonesian. Articles that have met the requirements are analyzed using the RevMan 5.3 application. Results: There are 9 articles that meet quantitative requirements and are divided into 2 categories according to independent variables with a Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) study design originating from Spain, Australia, South Korea, Brazil, Germany and England, which were carried out in a meta-analysis in this study. Meta-analysis of 7 articles showed estimates that acupuncture therapy was effective in reducing pain in LBP patients. Patients experienced a decrease in pain 0.32 units higher than those who were not given acupuncture therapy (SMD = 0.32; 95% CI= -0.46 to -0.17; p <0.001). Meanwhile, a meta-analysis of 9 articles showed the estimation of the effect of effective acupuncture therapy on improving the quality of life in LBP patients. Patients experienced an improvement in quality of life 0.52 units higher than those who were not given acupuncture therapy (SMD = 0.52; 95% CI= 0.22 to 0.81; p= 0.006).Conclusion: Acupuncture therapy is effective in reducing pain and improving the quality of life of LBP patients. Abstract

Background: Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) is a disorder of the spine that is curved laterally which includes rotation of the spine so that there is humpback on the ribs, which occurs in children aged 10-18 years. The use of a brace is an attempt to modify the mechanical shape and control the development of curves in the curvature of the spine by applying certain pressure points on the body. The purpose of this study was to determine the magnitude of the effect of using the scoliosis brace to reduce the degree of scoliosis in adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis.Subjects and Method: This study was conducted using a systematic review and meta-analysis study design using PICO, population: adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, intervention: using a scoliosis brace. comparison: not using a scoliosis brace, outcome: degree of scoliosis. The articles used in this study come from 3 databases, namely Google Scholar, PubMed, and Science Direct. With keywords including "Adolescent scoliosis" OR "scoliosis" AND "scoliosis brace" OR "brace" AND "degree of scoliosis" OR "Cobb Angle" AND "randomized control trial". The articles included in this study are full paper articles with experimental studies, research subjects of adolescent patients with scoliosis, articles published in the 2011-2021 period. Results: A meta-analysis was conducted on 10 primary randomized control trials conducted from Turkey, China, Canada, Switzerland, the United States, and Hong Kong, with a total sample size of 558. The meta-analysis concluded that adolescent patients with idiopathic scoliosis who received intervention The scoliosis brace had a lower grade of scoliosis 0.27 compared to adolescents who did not use the scoliosis brace, and the difference was statistically significant (SMD= -0.27; 95% CI= -0.45 to –0.09; p= 0.003).Conclusion: The use of a scoliosis brace can reduce the degree of scoliosis in adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis. Keywords: adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, scoliosis brace, cobb angleCorespondence: Etanaulia Marsim. Abstract

Background: Stroke is a disease caused by interference with blood flow in the brain which is still a global problem today. Post-stroke care needs to be done to prevent the worsening of the condition. One of the right interventions that can be done is virtual reality therapy and range of motion exercise. This study aims to examine, analyze and estimate changes in the range of motion of stroke patients with virtual reality therapy and range of motion exercise.Subjects and Method: Metaanalysis was carried out according to the PRISMA flow chart and the PICO model (Population: stroke patients, Intervention: virtual reality therapy and range of motion exercise, Comparison: not performed virtual reality therapy and range of motion exercise Outcome: range of motion). The databases used are Google Scholar, PubMed, and Science Direct. The keywords used (“virtual reality” OR VR) AND (stroke OR CVD) AND (“range of motion exercise” OR ROM OR “motor exercise”) AND (stroke OR CVD) AND “Randomized Control Trial”. The inclusion criteria were full-text articles with RCT studies published in 2012-2022, articles in English, and bivariate and multivariate analysis. Analysis was performed using ReVman 5.3.Results: There were 20 articles with a randomized control trial design originating from Iran, Turkey, China, Egypt, Myanmar, South Korea, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, and Canada involving 799 people.
