Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to determine the practicality and effectiveness of electronic student worksheets based on ethnoscience in training smart risk-taking behavior and a growth mindset. The research employed a hybrid type III mixed-method with a sequential explanatory design, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches. The subjects of the study were junior high school students in Lampung Province, selected randomly. The worksheets were developed based on ethnoscience principles, integrating local culture, traditional knowledge, and scientific knowledge, with validity tested by experts. Quantitative data were collected through product validity tests and hypothesis testing, while qualitative data were gathered through interviews and observations. Quantitative analysis showed a validity score of 91.60% with very high criteria, and hypothesis testing indicated significant differences between the experimental and control classes in the ability to exhibit smart risk-taking behavior and a growth mindset. Based on these results, it is concluded that ethnoscience-based worksheets are effective in training smart risk-taking behavior and a growth mindset, emphasizing the importance of integrating local cultural context in educational tools to enhance learning outcomes and personal development. This approach helps bridge the gap between traditional knowledge and modern scientific understanding, creating a more holistic educational framework.         Keywords: electronic student worksheets, ethnoscience, growth mindset, smart risk-taking behavior.DOI: https://doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v25i1.pp127-141

Abstract

The importance of this research is to get to know the students’ perceptions and motivation of the prospective chemistry teachers in facing online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. The research design used was descriptive qualitative research. The research was conducted on students of the Chemistry Education Study Program FKIP University of Lampung in 2017, 2018, and 2019. Data collection was carried out by using a questionnaire by means of google form and learning record data in the online data-log mode edusmart.fkip.unila.ac.id. and vclass.unila.ac.id. The results indicated that (1) the interaction pattern between the lecturers and students was quite good in terms of giving assignments and discussions. In terms of feedback and learning reflection, it, however, needs to be improved (2) Students' perception of online learning is less positive, this is indicated by the number of students who are disappointed because of learning methods un-interactive, (3) students are still not motivated yet to take online lectures due to limitation of internet signals and seem to consider it as assignments only. Keywords: COVID-19 pandemic, online learning, motivation, perception. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v22i1.pp77-89

Abstract

This study aimed to describe teacher's perception toward usage of interactive e-books based Problem Based Learning (PBL) to Envhance Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). The research was conducted in 50 junior high school science teachers. The method used in this research is a mixed method with Sequential Explanatory Design. The method used in this study is a mixed method with Sequential Explanatory Design. Data is retrieved using questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The survey results show that students have a positive perception of interactive e-books based PBL. The results of the analysis of e-books, most eachers have not used interactive e-books with a PBL approach to provide an understanding of science. E-books that have not trained students' HOTS are also included in the low category because teacher has not set strategies, methods, models and lack of knowledge about technology. It can be said that interactive e-book based PBL are needed by teachers and students to improve students’ HOTS.Keywords: teacher perception, interactive e-books, problem-based learning, higher order thinking skills.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v23i1.pp234-243

Abstract

Enhancing students’ activity and science concept mastery using guided-inquiry based practical manual. This quasi-experimental research aimed to understand the effectiveness of guided-inquiry based practical manual for improving students’ activity and concept mastery of science. Sixty students from SMP Negeri 1 Natar were selected as research samples in this study. This research used two types of data that is quantitative data (pretest, postes, and n-gain) and qualitative data (learning observation and student activity). The results showed that high n-gain score (0.70) for both experimental class 1 and 2. In addition, the assessment of student activity in experimental classes 1 and 2 is also quite good with the score is 86.44% and 85.84%, respectively. Therefore, the use of guided inquiry based practical manuals is highly recommended to improve students’ learning activities and mastery of the science concept. Keywords: Practical manual, guided inquiry, students’ activity, science concept master DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v8.i1.201801
