Abstract

Introduction: Size is a predictor factor of a patient's prognosis and metastasis in solid tumors. This study determined the relationship between thymoma size and distant metastasis. Methods: A cohort retrospective study using medical record data was conducted at Dr. Moewardi General Hospital, Surakarta, from January 2019 to August 2021. Of 1,430 thoracic oncology patients, 150 (10%) had mediastinal mass with thymoma as the majority (48.6%). About 73 thymoma patients were included. The size of the thymoma was the dependent variable, and the metastasis (distant and non-distant) was the independent variable. The cut-off point of thymoma size was determined with receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis. The correlation of thymoma size with distant metastasis was analyzed with the Chi-Square test, and p < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: Thymoma was predominated by males (53.4%), the mean age was 43 ± 16 years old, and dyspnea was the most common symptom. Metastatic lesions were found in 87.7% of the patients, and the most common metastatic sites were intrathoracic (79.5%), followed by axillary lymph nodes (49.3%), bone (21.9%), liver (20.5%), and brain (1.4%). The cut-off value of thymoma size was 8.25 cm, indicating that >8.25 cm was categorized as large thymoma. Distant metastasis was found in 86.0% of large thymoma patients. The large tumors tend to spread into various sites (OR = 5.39; 95% CI 2.8-32.6; p = 0.002).   Conclusion: Thymoma must be taken into account when there are male patients in their forties presented with dyspnea and mediastinal mass. The cut-off point of 8.25 cm for the thymoma size can predict distant metastasis.

Abstract

One of the institutions for students with special needs that utilizes the strategy of discovery inquiry learning in Quranic literacy education is Lentera Fajar Indonesia Integrated Learning Center (PKBM), located in Sidoarjo City, East Java.  This research aims to determine the discovery inquiry learning strategies used by institutions for children with special needs in Quranic literacy education. The research method employed is qualitative descriptive, which aims to describe and elaborate on the implementation of discovery inquiry learning strategies in Quranic literacy education. In the findings of this research, there are three categories of classification for children with special needs in terms of their levels, namely advanced and basic levels, utilizing guided discovery inquiry strategy. Meanwhile, the intermediate level utilizes the modified free discovery inquiry strategy. Teaching aids such as flashcards, Iqra' books, and techniques involving repeated imitation of sounds, along with initial stimuli in Quranic literacy education, as well as training students' motor skills through tracing Hijaiyah worksheets, are effectively employed by teachers to enhance student achievement in the learning materials. This effectiveness is evident from the evaluation results conducted every semester, assessing student progress through assessment forms and reports provided by the responsible teacher to the students' parents. Despite the inhibiting factors that affect the success of this strategy, such as students' low academic abilities, lack of parental support, and inconsistency in maintaining the established routines.

Abstract

This study discusses the problems faced by doctors in Indonesia regarding their responsibility towards patients as third parties for their negligence resulting in medical malpractice against patients that is believed to have caused harm to the patient. Through a regulatory approach, this study analyzes the legal framework that regulates the urgency of doctors to obtain professional liability insurance, the requirements that must be met by doctors to file liability insurance claims, and the obstacles that doctors often face when applying for liability insurance. By considering different legal perspectives, this study aims to provide a deeper understanding of the legal solutions faced by doctors when committing medical malpractice or medical disputes.

Abstract

Racial trauma among Asians, including Indonesians, has increased dramatically in the United States. While many studies have been written about the significance of recurring race-related traumatic incidents, the broader meaning of the unexpected and dark side of racial trauma experiences among Indonesians who reside in the United States is under-reported. This study aims to explore the meaning of experience dealing with racial trauma among Indonesians living in the United States using a qualitative phenomenological approach. We conducted in-depth interviews via the Zoom platform with a nationally representative purposive sample of 16 adults aged 26 and older. In analyzing this phenomenological study, all stages of phenomenological reduction were used. The findings demonstrate that racial trauma among Indonesian Americans can be categorized into three themes: 1) feeling sad and angry, 2) being exhausted, and 3) suffering physically. Therefore, the myth that Asian Americans are immune to racism and its effects is not necessarily true. This study also offers implications for future research on racial understanding and discussion.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the integration of Total Quality Management (TQM) principles and models within the framework of the Indonesian National Education Quality Assurance System (SPMP). The research employed a literature review methodology, analyzing related regulations, theoretical frameworks, and documented implementation strategies pertaining to TQM and the SPMP. The analysis indicates that TQM, including the PDCAE model and principles like stakeholder involvement and a customer-centered approach, has been formally adopted into the SPMP in Indonesian schools. However, its implementation has not been optimal, hindered by constraints such as limited funding, inadequate resources, and an unsupportive operational environment. Consequently, TQM integration remains largely theoretical and has not yet solidified into a pervasive, practical quality culture within the school system. To move beyond theoretical adoption, education policymakers and school administrators must prioritize securing adequate resources, building institutional capacity, and fostering an organizational environment that actively supports the practical application of TQM principles to establish a sustained quality culture. This study provides a structured analysis of the specific challenges in translating TQM theory into practice within Indonesia’s national education quality assurance framework. It contributes by highlighting the commonality of this theory-practice gap in developing countries and by clearly identifying the systemic barriers financial, resource-based, and cultural that impede the full realization of a TQM-based quality culture in schools.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the implementation of rules and procedures to establish student discipline in online Physical Education learning. The research method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative method with data analysis techniques including data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of this study indicated that the implementation of rules and procedures in Physical Education learning can foster student discipline during online learning. Student discipline is evident as all students demonstrate discipline by activating their cameras during the class and focusing on listening to the teacher's explanation, as well as muting their microphones when not asked to speak. The majority of students also show disciplined behavior by using the "raise hand" feature when requesting permission to speak or asking questions, and they actively participate in the learning process. In conclusion, the implementation of rules and procedures successfully cultivates student discipline in online Physical Education learning. As a suggestion for future research, further studies can explore forming discipline through a personalized approach to students.

Abstract

This study aims to prove the effects of a single bout of endurance exercise on decreased oxidative stress in young adults with overweight. This study used the true experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. Twenty overweight women between the ages of 20 and 23 were recruited from college students and randomly divided into CON (n = 10, control group without exercise) and EEx (n = 10, endurance exercise group). The endurance exercise intervention is carried out once by running on a treadmill with an intensity of 60-70% HRmax for 40 minutes/exercise sessions. Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels as a biomarker of oxidative stress were measured 30 minutes pre-exercise and 24 hours post-exercise using the Thiobarbituric Acid Reactive Substance (TBARs) method. The results showed that MDA levels significantly decreased in the endurance training group compared to the control group. Results of analysis of MDA levels between pre-exercise and post-exercise in CON (819.00±66.47 vs. 853.00±113.55 ng/mL; (P > 0.05), EEx (810.00±120.19 vs. 596.00±67.57 ng/mL; (P < 0.05). Based on the results of this study, it was concluded that a single session of endurance exercise at an intensity of 60-70% HRmax for 40 minutes reduces oxidative stress in overweight adolescent females.
