Abstract

ABSTRACTIodine deficiency disorder can be prevented by consumption of salt which contains iodine into the body. Based on Indonesian National Standard (SNI), concentration of Potassium iodide(KIO3) were 30-80 ppm. The objectives of this research were to identify and determineconcentration of potassium iodide in salt which marketed in Bitung region. Samples were 9branded salts and 1 sample unbranded. Identification was done by Potassium cation test andIodide anion test. Determination of Potassium iodide were done using spectrophotometerUV-Vis. The results shows that 9 samples contains Potassium iodide (Branded salts), and 1sample did not contains Potassium iodide (Unbranded salt). Based on spectrophotometeranalysis, there were 5 samples comply SNI of KIO3 (31,6-77,6 ppm), 5 samples did notcomply SNI of KIO3 (2,1-28 ppm).Keywords : Potassium iodide, iodine salt, Spectrophotometry UV-vis, Bitung

Abstract

ABSTRACTLeaves of Langsat parasite (Dendrophthoe petandra (L.) Miq.) contains flavonoids. Theobjective of this research was to examine hepatoprotector effect of leave extract from langsatparasite on white male rats induced with CCl4. Treatment was conducted for 8 days to 13 rats,which group I (P1) were administered with EDBL 35mg/KgBB,group II (P2) wereadministered with EDBL 70mg/KgBB,group III (K+) were administered withCurcuma81mg/KgBB orally. Group IV (K-) and V (KP) were administered with aquadestad libitum.At 8th day, all groups except (KP) were induced with CCl4 1mL/KgBB intraperitoneally.Eighteen hours after inducing time, all rats in every group were sacrafied to take its liver.Rats liver were analyzed using TBARS (Thiobarbituric Acid Reactive Subtance) method tocalculate MDA (Malondialdehid) level that were the end product of lipid peroxidation in ratsliver.MDA content of P1 were 2,715μM, P2 were 2,080μM, K+ were 1,708μM, and K- were3,413μM. Data analysis using SPSS ver.20 by One-Way ANOVA and Duncan Multiple RangeTest.Keywords : leave of Langsat parasite, hepatoprotector effect,CCl4, MDA

Abstract

ABSTRACT Whitening cream is a mix of chemicals which whiten skin or bleach black fleck on the skin. The use of Mercury in whitening cream effects many things, such as skin color changes, and at the end cause black flecks, allergy, and irritation. The use of high dose cause permanent brain damage and cancer. The objectives of this research were to identify and determine Mercury (Hg) in some whitening creams marketed in Manado City.Sample of whitening cream were 10 samples.Identification of Mercury using color test, and Cold Vapour-Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (CVAAS). The results shows that five samples contains Mercury (Hg)0,0004 ppm, 0,0003 ppm, 0,0006 ppm, 0,0004 ppm, and 0,0005 ppmwithin ten samples analysis. Abstract

ABSTRACK Tofu is a food made by coagulating soy juice and then pressing the resulting curds into soft white blocks. The use of food additive in food process needs to be aware. Borax were restricted to be used, it cause brain damage, liver, and kidney. Prolonged use may cause death. The objectives of this research was to find out the presence of borax in tofu which produced in Manado city. Investigated tofu were sample A (Bahu), B (Batukota I), C (Batukota II), D (Kleak), and E (Pakowa). Borax were evaluated by flame test, curcuma paper color test, turmeric color test and spectrophotometry UV-vis. The results shows that there were five samples that did not contains borax using flame test, curcuma paper test, turmeric paper test and Spectrophotometry UV-Vis analysis.   Key words : Borax, Tofu, Qualitative analysis, Spectrophotometry UV-Vis, Manado.

Abstract

Inflamation is a protective response of body from injury of cell. Edema is one ofinflammation sign. Guava stem leather contains of flavonoid which has potency to inhibitedema. The aims of this research were to study antiinflamation effect of ethanolic extractofguava stem leather (Psidium guajava L.) on edema of white mice strain wistar legs.Thesubjects in this research were 25 wistar male which divided into 5 groups, namely negativecontrol (aquades), positive control (indometasin) and extract group with concentration 1%,2% and 4%. Every group consists of five mices. Aquades, indometasin and extractsupplementation were done per oral, followed with 5% of white egg induction on mice leftleglead to edema formation.Measurement of edema volume was done using plestimometer,and observation of edema were made every hour during 7 hours. Data which obtained wereanalyzed with ANOVA, if there is a differences between treatment, analysis continue to LSDtest. The result shows that supplementation of ethanolic extract of guava stem leatherconcentration 1% and 2 % decrease edema significantly with percent of inhibition 37,37 and32,59%, but supplementation of ethanolic extract of guava stem leather concentration 1% didnot shows inhibition effect .Keywords: guava stem leather, antiinflamation, edema

Abstract

Rhodamin B is a synthetic dye that banned for use in cosmetics and is certified as ahazardous material according to Minister of Health of Indonesian Republic No.376/Menkes/Per/1990 because it cause liver damage, kidney and lymph glands damage,followed with anatomy changes such as organ enlargement. Rhodamin B dye is often usedfor food and beverage products. The study was conducted to identify Rhodamin B in lipstickin the market of Manado City. Samples was taken from 3 main market in Manado city,namely Karombasan market, Pasar 45 market, and Bersehati market. Samples were soakedwith amonia solution, then using wool yarn to extract rhodamin B dye, followed byidentification using thin layer chromatography (TLC) then detected with UV light 254 and366 nm. Rhodamin B was evaluated using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. Abstract

Acrylamide can be formed as a consequence of heating athigh temperature (more than1200C) in food contains high of carbohydrate. Acrylamide was classified as carcinogeniccompound to human being. Junk food which mostly eaten by people is fries. The objectiveof this research is to identify acrylamide in banana fries marketed in Manado city usingHigh Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Samples were taken from 12 places,by 6 sub district Manado City. Acrylamide were analyzed by HPLC using Shim-Pack VPODS(4,6 x 250 nm) column, comparison of mobile phase acetonitrile and phospate acid11,45 mM (5:95), flow rate 1 ml/minuteand at wave lenght 210 nm. The result shows thatAcrylamide contains in banana fries with retention time ±4,284 minutes. Acrylamidecontained in banana fries which marketed in Manado City were 39,65 – 1789,52 μg/kg.Acrylamide level in banana fries is at under lethal dose (LD50)Keywords : Acrylamide, banana fries, HPLC, Manado

Abstract

ABSTRACT   The salty ketchup is one of the food additives commonly added to food. The purpose of this study was to identily and determine levels of use of benzoic acid compound as a preservative in salty ketchup turn in Manado. The samples used were four different ketchup brands produced locally in Manado. Sample identification is done by extracting the sample using diethyl ether solvent. Ether was evaporated to obtain dried ketchup extract. The extracted residue was reacted with 5 % FeCl3 resulting in brown precipitate which proves that it contains benzoic acid. Determination of the preservative (benzoic acid) was determined using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The results showed that four samples of ketchup used benzoic acid as a preservative. Using preservative not weather threshold set out in Decree PERMENKES RI No 722/MenKes/Per/IX/88.   Keywords : benzoate, ketchup, Manado, UV-Vis spectrophotometer.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Langsat fruit seeds (Lansium domesticum Corr) are  part of the plant that is known to be antibacterial. Therefore, exploration of langsat fruit as an antibacterial is needed. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of langsat fruit seeds against Staphylococus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae using the disc method and the well method. Langsat fruit seed powder was macerated using the maceration method with n-hexane solvent and tested for antibacterial activity. Inhibition of the n-hexane extract of langsat fruit seeds showed the largest clear zone diameter value given by the lowest concentration of 10% by the disc and sumurun method on the Staphylococus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniaes bacteria 13.6 mm; 12.6 mm; 13 mm; and 14.6 mm. This shows that the n-hexane extract of langsat fruit seeds has strong antibacterial activity against Staphylococus aureus and Klebsiella pneumonia bacteria both by the disc method and the well method. Keywords: langsat fruit seeds, Klebsiella pneumoniae, disc, pitting method, Staphylococus aureus  ABSTRAKBiji buah langsat (Lansium domesticum Corr) merupakan salah satu bagian tanaman yang telah dikenal sebagai antibakteri. Maka dari itu, eksplorasi buah langsat sebagai antibakteri sangat diperlukan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri biji buah langsat terhadap bakteri Staphylococus aureus  dan Klebsiella pneumoniae menggunakan metode cakram dan metode sumuran. Serbuk biji buah langsat dimaserasi menggunakan metode maserasi dengan pelarut n-Heksan dan dilakukan uji aktivitas antibakteri. Daya hambat ekstrak n-Heksan biji buah langsat menunjukkan nilai diameter zona bening terbesar diberikan oleh konsentrasi terendah 10% dengan metode cakram (13,6 mm pada bakteri Staphylococus aureus dan 12,6 mm pada bakteri Klebsiella pneumoniae) dan metode sumuran (13 mm pada bakteri Staphylococus aureus dan 14,6 mm pada bakteri Klebsiella pneumoniae). Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak n-Heksan biji buah langsat memiliki aktivitas antibakteri yang kuat terhadap bakteri Staphylococus aureus  dan Klebsiella pneumoniae baik dengan metode cakram maupun metode sumuran. Kata Kunci: biji buah langsat,Klebsiella pneumoniae, metode cakram, sumuran, Staphylococus aureus

Abstract

ABSTRACT Duku (Lansium domesticum) provides many benefits for the community. Apart from the fruit which has high nutritional value, duku is believed by the community to have benefits. The study aims to learn about the antibacterial extract of my seed against the staphylococus aureus and escherichia coli. This study used the meseration method with ethanol as a solvent. The antibacterial activity test used the well diffusion method with a concentration of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%. The positive control used was Ciprofloxacin and the negative control used was the CMC solution. Studies show that the suppression of extract is 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40% staphylococus aureus, the average drip zone is 11.3mm, 13.3mm, 13.6mm, 11,3mm, and escherichia coli, on average, 10 mm,  9,3mm, 10,3mm, 12,6 mm. The results suggest that the extract of the duku fruit has antibacterial activity against the growth of the staphylococcus aureus and escherichia coli. Keywords: Duku seed, Antibacterial, Antibacterial activity ABSTRAK Duku (Lansium domesticum) banyak memberikan manfaat bagi masyarakat. Selain buahnya yang mempunyai nilai gizi tinggi, duku dipercaya masyarakat memiliki manfaat untuk kesehatan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak biji duku terhadap bakteri staphylococus aureus  dan Escherichia coli. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode maserasi dengan pelarut etanol. Uji aktivitas antibakteri menggunakan metode difusi sumuran  dengan konsentrasi 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%. Kontrol positif yang digunakan adalah  Ciprofloxacin dan kontrol negatif yang digunakan adalah larutan CMC.  Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa daya hambat ekstrak dengan konsentrasi 10%, 20%, 30%, dan 40% Staphylococcus aureus rata-rata  zona beningnya 11,3mm, 13,3mm, 13,6mm, 11,3mm, dan Escherichia coli rata-rata  zona beningnya 10 mm, 9,3mm, 10,3mm, 12,6 mm. Dari hasil yang didapatkan  disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak biji buah duku memiliki aktivitas antibakteri terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coli. Kata Kunci:Biji buah duku, Antibakteri, Aktivitas antibakteri
