Abstract

The phenomenon of low social well-being is caused by a decline in socially conscious behaviors in adolescents and a lack of social support, which leads to a lack of social connection. Some previous studies have shown that peer social support affects social well-being, although other studies do not support this finding. This study suggests that there may be other factors (moderators) that affect the peer social support variable on social well-being, specifically savoring. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of peer social support on social well-being with savoring as a moderator variable. This research was a quantitative study with a survey type, which was conducted on high school students in the city of Yogyakarta with a sample size of 291 students. The sample determination in this study employed a cluster random sampling technique, while the data collection utilized peer social support, social well-being, and savoring scales. Instrument validity used content validity, construct validity, and reliability based on Cronbach's Alpha with α peer social support scale = 0.947, α social well-being scale = 0.814, and α savoring scale = 0.791. Data analysis techniques using macro process by Andrew F. Hayes. The results of this study show that there is no interaction between savoring and peer social support against social well-being. This suggests that savoring is unable to moderate the impact of peer social support on adolescents' social well-being. Therefore, savoring can't change the effect of peer social support on social well-being in adolescents.

Abstract

Measuring the independence of students with mild intellectual disabilities requires a well-validated and culturally appropriate instrument as a foundation for designing effective educational interventions. However, in Indonesia, such tools remain limited. This study aimed to develop a non-cognitive Independence Scale for students with mild intellectual disabilities and to evaluate its psychometric properties, including validity, reliability, item difficulty, and discrimination. A 30-item Likert-scale instrument, rated by teachers, was constructed to measure three domains: Personal, Social, and Academic Independence. The scale was pilot tested on 100 students with mild intellectual disabilities at SLB Negeri Manggar. Quantitative analyses using R Studio included tests of item validity (corrected item–total correlations), internal consistency (Cronbach’s α), item discrimination (upper–lower group method), item difficulty indices, and normality of total scores (Shapiro–Wilk and Kolmogorov–Smirnov tests). All 30 items demonstrated acceptable validity (r ≥ 0.39) and high internal consistency (Cronbach’s α = 0.919). Item discrimination indices were satisfactory (D ≥ 0.30). Seventeen items (57%) were categorized as “Easy” (p > 0.70), while the rest showed moderate difficulty levels, and no items were too difficult (p < 0.30). The total scores were normally distributed (p > 0.05). Overall, the Independence Scale exhibited strong psychometric properties, indicating its suitability for assessing the independence of students. Future revisions are recommended to refine items that were identified as Easy to enhance discrimination among higher-performing students.

Abstract

Career anxiety is a common problem experienced by final year students due to academic pressure, social expectations, and uncertainty about future work. This study aims to analyze the effect of social support on students' career anxiety, both directly and indirectly through the mediating role of well-being. The method used is quantitative, with a correlational design, involving final-year students of Yogyakarta State University, selected using a multistage random sampling technique, yielding 452 samples. Data were collected through standardized questionnaires, namely the Career Anxiety Scale (CAS) with a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.920, the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) with a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.982, and the College Student Subjective Well-being Questionnaire - Revised (CSSWQ-R) with a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.810. The results of the regression analysis showed that social support had a significant negative effect on career anxiety and a positive effect on well-being. Furthermore, well-being was shown to have a significant negative effect on career anxiety and acted as a partial mediator in the relationship between social support and career anxiety, which initially decreased from 51.7% to 64.3% after the well-being variable was included. In conclusion, social support not only directly reduced career anxiety but also strengthened students' well-being, which in turn helped them face the challenges of the working world with more calm and confidence.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: The purpose of this study was to provide psychometric evidence of the Optimism Scale based on Explanatory Style in high school students in Indonesia. Methodology: The type of research is quantitative research with a survey type. This study was conducted with EFA factor analysis, which was used for initial exploration in scale development and CFA, which was used to confirm a predetermined factor model based on the results of EFA., the optimism scale consisted of 32 items, and the number of subjects in this study was 186 students. The data were analysed using the Jamovi program version 2.4.11. Main Findings: The results of this study indicate that there are 3 factors after EFA, and after CFA there are 7 items that are dropped, leaving 25 items with CFA values of CFI = 0.911, TLI = 0.902, SRMR = 0.0553, RMSEA = 0.0508 and McDonald's Omega reliability of 0.872 and Cronbach's alpha of 0.872. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study offers an explanatory style-based optimism scale with comprehensive psychometric validity evidence in Indonesian high school students. This study makes a novel contribution in the development of instruments that are appropriate to the Indonesian cultural context, as well as supporting the measurement of optimism in educational settings to understand students’ positive thinking patterns in order to improve their psychological well-being and academic achievement.
