Abstract

Teachers’ pedagogical competence plays a central role in ensuring the quality of learning in elementary schools. One strategic effort to support the development of this competence is academic supervision conducted by school principals. This study aims to explore the role of principals’ academic supervision in enhancing teachers’ pedagogical competence at the elementary school level. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed in this research. The participants consisted of a school principal and elementary school teachers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis. The data were analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings indicate that academic supervision implemented in a planned and collaborative manner contributes to the improvement of teachers’ pedagogical competence, particularly in lesson planning, instructional implementation, and classroom management. In addition, the supervision process encourages teachers to engage in reflective practices and continuous professional improvement. However, the effectiveness of academic supervision has not been fully optimized due to time constraints and administrative workload, which limit the consistency of follow-up actions. Therefore, academic supervision needs to be designed based on teachers’ actual needs and supported by systematic and continuous follow-up to ensure sustainable improvement in pedagogical competence.

Abstract

This study examines the collaborative role of school principals and teachers in managing educational quality within the Merdeka Belajar era as a strategic effort to achieve the Golden Indonesia 2045 Vision. Using a qualitative literature study approach, the findings reveal that the effective implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum is strongly influenced by the synergy between principals’ collaborative instructional leadership and teachers’ pedagogical autonomy. Principals function as facilitators who promote continuous professional development, encourage reflective instructional practices, and optimize the use of assessment data to enhance learning outcomes, while teachers design differentiated, student-centered learning that strengthens the Pancasila Student Profile. The analysis also highlights that alignment across planning, implementation, and evaluation particularly through the development of a data-driven Education Unit Operational Curriculum (KOSP) serves as a strategic bridge connecting national educational policies to classroom practices, thereby ensuring consistency in quality improvement efforts. Despite these positive developments, the study identifies persistent challenges such as limited resources, uneven digital readiness, and administrative burdens that may hinder optimal collaboration. Overall, the study confirms that sustainable, participatory, and innovation-oriented quality management is essential for developing superior human resources capable of supporting Indonesia’s long-term national aspirations toward 2045.

Abstract

This article aims at arguing for the importance of the testing step when designing an educational application by taking a case study from the development of adaptive learning media. The media contains a set of in-struments that are specifically built to empower students' critical thinking skills. Three aspects that are con-sidered in testing this educational application are application validity at each stage of system development, measurement of the final system feasibility test for user needs, and system implementation by running learning media on the test sample. Implementation of testing on application products is carried out accord-ing to system requirements and models. The existence of the characteristics of adaptive media and the diver-sity of menus in the application implies the importance of doing a lot of improvisation when carrying out tests, such as determining the right test cases, choosing the appropriate test model and method, determining a suitable test environment, and considering several other aspects aimed at optimizing test results. obtained in order to ensure the quality of learning media products. This study analyzed the test data using Likert scale as an interpretation of the results of the validation assessment from the experts by referring to certain perceived standards of assessment. Meanwhile, the analysis of the data from the feasibility test results from a sample of 20 students using the system usability scale (SUS) instrument. The technique to test the effec-tiveness was using a pretest-posttest control group design with a sample of 98 students. Parametric/non-parametric data analysis was then applied to analyze the data on the results of testing the effectiveness or efficacy of adaptive media products in improving students' higher order thinking skills (HOTS). Based on the testing steps applied to the application of adaptive learning media, the results obtained that the product was considered feasible and effective in empowering students' HOTS. The study concludes that the educa-tional application testing that has been carried out is able to provide an objective and independent view of the application of adaptive learning media which will be useful in operational functions to understand the level of effectiveness in its implementation before being widely used in learning.

Abstract

Typically, biology students pursue natural sciences. As the world becomes increasingly interconnected and reliant on digital technologies and platforms, it is essential to evaluate their technological preparedness. This study aims to validate a mapping instrument of the digital competence of pre-service Biology teachers in a leading private university in Indonesia. The analysis used the Rasch model to measure the validity and reliability of questionnaire instrument utilizing the Logit Value of Item (LVI). The Digital competency (Digcom) questionnaire contains 36 statements in the Indonesian language (Bahasa). This questionnaire aims to record respondents' answers to digital skills for preservice teachers. The statement is adapted from the digital competence area for EU citizens combined with the Digital Literacy guidelines of the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information. The result of the retranslation has been validated to remove the ambiguity of each item of the statement by English language experts. The pilot research was conducted on preservice teachers from different backgrounds (gender, department, and year of study) in a private University (n=261). The findings indicated that all the items were deemed acceptable as they met the criteria for the PTMEA-CORR range, MNSQ outfit, and ZSTD outfit. This study is among the few that have explored the digital competency framework of preservice teacher students in Indonesia, specifically in relation to the difficulty level of each competency area.

Abstract

Improving quality in Islamic primary schools requires a headmaster who can strategically interpret internal and external conditions. This paper aims to map strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in educational quality management at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Muhammadiyah Sidokerto Plupuh Sragen and to formulate feasible quality-improvement strategies centered on headmaster leadership. The method is a literature study using content analysis of recent scholarly works and relevant documents, synthesized through the SWOT framework and the TOWS matrix. The main findings indicate that internal strengths are generally driven by religious culture, organizational networks, and leadership potential to cultivate a quality culture, while weaknesses often relate to inconsistent internal quality assurance practices, uneven teacher competence development, and limited resources to sustain innovation. External opportunities include strengthening parent–community partnerships, expanding digital learning literacy, and improving program planning based on quality indicators; key threats stem from competition among similar institutions, rising service expectations, and the risk of innovation stagnation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the perspectives of al-Islam and Muhammadiyah on the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the framework of ethics, epistemology, and the concept of blessing (barakah). The research employs a qualitative approach using a library research method, through the analysis of literature on Islamic philosophy, Muhammadiyah thought, and studies on technology ethics and AI. The data were analyzed using content analysis and hermeneutic techniques to identify normative principles relevant to responding to AI development. The findings indicate that Islam views technology as an instrument of the human mandate of khalifah (vicegerency), which must be directed toward public welfare (maslahah), justice, and balance between worldly life and the hereafter. The concept of Islamic ethics including tawhid, adl, moral character (akhlaq), and social responsibility serves as the normative foundation for evaluating and utilizing AI. Knowledge (ilm) is understood as a religious obligation that is not morally neutral; therefore, AI development must be oriented toward truth and benefit. Meanwhile, the concept of blessing (barakah) emphasizes sustainability and the spiritual dimension in the use of technology. From the Muhammadiyah perspective, the integration of religion and science, the strengthening of education, and community empowerment constitute the primary principles in AI development. AI is positioned as a means of civilizational renewal that must be guided by ethical values to prevent injustice or dehumanization. Thus, al-Islam and Muhammadiyah offer an integrative and normative philosophical framework for directing AI development in a responsible, just, and spiritually meaningful manner.
