Abstract

The most significant economic pillars supporting Indonesia's development and growth are Micro, Small, and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSMEs), particularly in the Malang region. In recent years, Malang's MSMEs business sector has grown significantly. Meeting the rising needs of consumers is essential for MSME firms to succeed. In this situation, it's critical for MSMEs to secure halal certification for their goods and goods with quality assurance. The goals of this study are to: (1) ascertain the impact of halal labels on consumer decisions regarding food and beverage products in the Malang MSME sector; (2) ascertain the impact of product quality on consumer decisions concerning food and beverage products in the Malang MSME sector; and (3) ascertain the impact of both halal labels and product quality at the same time. The sample in this study consists of 70 individuals, with the population in this study including all customers who buy and consume halal-certified MSME food and beverage goods in Malang. Multiple linear regression analysis is the data analysis technique employed in this study. The study's findings indicate that the product quality variable has a tcount of 1.107 and a significance level of 0.272 above 0.05, whereas the halal label variable has a tcount of -0.251 and a significance level of 0.803 above 0.05.

Abstract

Compensation is a reward given by the company to employees, for their services in carrying out the duties, obligations and responsibilities assigned to them in order to achieve company goals. Providing compensation to employees has the greatest influence on employees’ thoughts about a sense of calm that generates loyalty to the company and motivates the implementation of their work. The purpose of this study is to identify compensation as a work incentive to improve employee performance. The method used is research using literature studies by examining journals and books related to the effect of compensation as an encouragement for employee performance. The results of the discussion show that the compensation given must be felt fairly by employees and the amount of compensation is not much different from what is expected by employees. If these two things can be fulfilled, the employee will be satisfied. Satisfaction will trigger employees to continue to improve their performance, so that company goals and employee needs will be achieved together.

Abstract

The sustainability of citrus farming in Sukopuro Village, Malang Regency, faces serious challenges in the form of declining interest among the younger generation, pest and disease attacks, and unpredictable climate change. Amidst these conditions, religious values and family involvement are believed to play an important role in maintaining farmers' resilience and business continuity. This study aims to analyze how religiousness and family involvement shape the practice of sustainable citrus farming. The study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving farmers, family members, and religious leaders as informants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña technique. The results show that religiosity functions as spiritual capital that increases farmers' psychological resilience in facing production uncertainty, while family involvement becomes a social foundation that strengthens the inheritance of values, division of roles, and business continuity between generations. However, the challenges of regeneration, climate risks, and ecological vulnerability remain major obstacles to maintaining business sustainability. This study concludes that the sustainability of the citrus business is not only determined by technical factors but also depends heavily on the strength of religious-social capital and family solidarity. These findings make an important contribution to strengthening the sustainability model of agriculture based on local values and family culture

Abstract

This study aims to explain how locally-based adaptive innovation has become a survival strategy for Usman Batik Lumajang (UBL) in facing competition from the modern batik industry. Batik MSMEs are required to develop innovations that are rooted in cultural values while also being responsive to market changes. To explore this process in depth, this study uses a qualitative grounded theory method with data collection techniques in the form of in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. Informants include business owners, craftsmen, marketing staff, consumers, and community leaders. The results of the analysis through open coding, axial coding, and selective coding show that UBL's adaptive innovation is formed from a combination of local cultural values, design creativity, marketing strategy adjustments, and community support. Distinctive motifs such as Pisang Agung and Kuda Kencak are unique resources that are difficult to imitate, in line with the Resource-Based View (RBV) theory. Meanwhile, design development, quality improvement, and product diversification reflect innovation as defined in the OECD (Oslo Manual). The resulting substantive theory concludes that the sustainability of batik MSMEs is largely determined by the ability to integrate local cultural values with modern product innovation in a sustainable manner. Local-based adaptive innovation not only enhances competitiveness but also plays a role in preserving regional cultural identity

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a vital role in driving economic growth; however, the increasing level of competition necessitates that business actors adopt effective and appropriate marketing strategies to sustain their competitiveness and achieve long-term success. This study aims to analyse the application of marketing strategies through the STP concept (Segmenting, Targeting, and Positioning) at Batik Krajan DW MSME in Karangploso. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that market segmentation includes batik enthusiasts, government institutions, schools, and tourists, with the main target being batik enthusiasts and government institutions. Positioning is carried out through the unique Batik Kawung Kates motif and involvement within the Hasta Padma batik industrial area. However, the implementation of the STP strategy has not been optimal, as indicated by fluctuating sales, low compliance of civil servants in wearing batik, and intense competition. These findings are expected to serve as a basis for strengthening the marketing strategy through a more optimal STP concept at Batik Krajan DW MSME. Abstract

This study explores the implementation of circular economy principles within Safina Quilt, an MSME in Balikpapan that transforms textile waste—such as fabric scraps and discarded clothing—into value-added products. Safina Quilt applies the concepts of reduction, reuse, and upcycling throughout its production processes using quilting techniques, while simultaneously establishing an inclusive supply chain that engages local tailors, individuals with disabilities, and homemakers. This business model not only delivers economic gains by increasing profit margins and expanding market reach but also generates substantial social benefits by empowering vulnerable community groups. Although challenges remain, including limited access to supporting materials, constraints in production capacity, and insufficient digital marketing efforts, Safina Quilt demonstrates how MSMEs can successfully integrate environmental, economic, and social sustainability. Strengthening supply chain mechanisms, enhancing production capabilities, and improving digital marketing strategies are essential for scaling up and ensuring long-term business sustainability.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the Segmenting, Targeting, and Positioning (STP) based marketing strategy for Candyco_id, a handmade knitting craft business in Malang City. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach to deeply explore the experiences of business owners thru interviews, observations, and an examination of marketing activities. The research findings indicate that the application of STP at Candyco_id evolved naturally and adaptively, influenced by direct interaction with consumers and social media trends. Market segmentation is formed based on demographic, geographic, psychographic, and behavioral characteristics, with gift-giving motives and a unique preference for handmade products being dominant. The targeting is directed toward students as the primary segment, with expansion thru digital marketing reaching consumers outside the region and potentially entering international markets. Positioning is built thru the differentiation of custom services, quality craftsmanship, and storytelling that strengthens the emotional value of the product. The challenges faced include price wars, which highlight the need for consumer education about the value of craftsmanship. Overall, this research confirms that the STP strategy plays an important role in strengthening the competitiveness of handmade creative MSMEs and can serve as a reference for developing marketing strategies in similar sectors.

Abstract

This study aims to gain an in-depth understanding of the recruitment process at Toko Uddan, a small business in the goods distribution sector, using a qualitative approach and grounded theory analysis. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with the owner, administrator, field coordinator, and employees. The results of the study show that recruitment at Toko Uddan is simple, flexible, and greatly influenced by social proximity. Candidates are obtained almost entirely through family and relative recommendations, while selection is conducted informally by considering personality, work ethic, and readiness to start working immediately. Orientation is provided through a one-week field trial period without formal training. Through open coding, axial coding, and selective coding, this study produced a Relational-Operational Recruitment model consisting of three core categories: trust-based recruitment, personality- and work readiness-based selection, and rapid placement through hands-on practice. When compared to Dessler's (2013) recruitment theory, Toko Uddan's recruitment practices show significant differences in terms of formality, diversity of applicant sources, and objectivity of selection, but remain effective in the context of SMEs. The validity of the findings is maintained through the application of Lincoln and Guba's (1985) criteria, including credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability. These findings make an important contribution to understanding relationship-based recruitment patterns in small businesses in Indonesia and their implications for more adaptive and contextual human resource management

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of franchising systems in street food businesses and their impact on improving the competitiveness of MSMEs. Culinary MSMEs, especially in the street food sector, have high growth potential but face various challenges such as weak branding, inconsistent product quality, and limited managerial capacity. The franchising and micro-franchising models have emerged as potential strategies to overcome these challenges through operational standardization, management support, and brand strength. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method through in-depth interviews and observations of street food business actors who are franchisees. The results show that the implementation of SOPs, training, and supervision from the franchisor improve operational efficiency, product consistency, brand identity, and consumer trust. In addition, franchising has been proven to expand market access, increase sales, and help street food businesses move upmarket. However, the study also found challenges such as limited innovation, dependence on the franchisor for raw materials, and the burden of royalty fees. Overall, the franchising system has proven to be an effective strategy for increasing the competitiveness of MSMEs in the street food sector through a combination of standardization, brand strengthening, and ongoing management support.

Abstract

This study investigates the role of higher education institutions (HEIs) in strengthening social entrepreneurship ecosystems in Malang Raya, Indonesia. Using an explanatory sequential mixed-method design, quantitative data were collected from 100–150 respondents representing key ecosystem actors, including faculty members, students, social entrepreneurs, supporting institutions, and government stakeholders. Quantitative data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with LISREL software, while qualitative data from 15–25 key informants were analyzed thematically through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions (FGD). The study integrates Resource-Based View (RBV), Triple Helix Model, and Social Capital Theory to develop a comprehensive framework. Findings demonstrate that HEIs significantly influence ecosystem sustainability, although some relationships show non-significant effects due to external factors and institutional readiness. The study recommends implementing collaborative strategies based on the triple helix model and strengthening social capital to enhance the social entrepreneurship ecosystem. This research contributes to advancing community-based entrepreneurship theory and provides practical implications for policymakers and institutional leaders in Indonesia.
