Abstract

Kata kunci: total quality management, budaya mutu, pendidikan tinggi, penjaminan mutu, manajemen pendidikan Abstract: This study analyzes the implementation of Total Quality Management (TQM) in strengthening a quality culture in the Faculty of Education. The adoption of TQM in higher education is increasingly recognized as a strategic framework for developing an integrated management system that emphasizes continuous improvement, stakeholder satisfaction, and the active involvement of all organizational members. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the study collected data through semi-structured interviews, direct observation, and document analysis involving faculty leaders, program coordinators, lecturers, and administrative staff. The findings indicate that key TQM principles—such as systematic planning, standardization, and continuous evaluation—have been implemented through internal quality assurance policies, professional development programs for lecturers, and digital monitoring mechanisms. These efforts have contributed to improved transparency, efficiency, and consistency in academic and administrative processes. Nevertheless, several challenges remain, including uneven internalization of quality values across units, communication gaps among organizational levels, and varying levels of participation in quality assurance activities. To address these challenges, the study recommends strengthening transformational leadership, expanding the digital quality management system, and increasing stakeholder engagement to build a more sustainable and cohesive quality culture. This study contributes to the growing body of literature on TQM implementation in higher education institutions. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the synergy between the humanistic values of Ki Hajar Dewantara and Paulo Freire in the implementation of total quality management in educational institutions. The study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive design, utilizing in depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis as data collection techniques. Data were analyzed through thematic analysis involving coding, categorization, and triangulation to ensure validity. The findings indicate that integrating Dewantara’s humanistic principles particularly the three education centers (family, school, and community) and leadership values with Freire’s dialogical pedagogy fosters participatory leadership, reflective learning, and active stakeholder involvement. This integration transforms total quality management from a predominantly administrative framework into a humanistic–transformative approach that emphasizes critical awareness, collaboration, and continuous improvement driven by collective consciousness. The study implies that a humanistic based total quality management model can enhance the effectiveness of educational quality management by strengthening character development, improving interpersonal relationships, and promoting sustainable quality culture. Practically, this approach provides strategic guidance for educational institutions to implement total quality management in a more inclusive, participatory, and socially relevant manner.

Abstract

This study aims to formulate a strategic transformation model for sustainable education based on W. Edwards Deming’s principles of quality management. Twenty-first century education faces complex challenges arising from the Fourth Industrial Revolution, digital disruption, and social inequality, demanding a system that goes beyond academic orientation to emphasize sustainability, collaboration, and innovation. Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, this study analyzed 45 selected articles from international and national journals (2020–2025), which met inclusion criteria such as peer-reviewed status, relevance to Deming principles, TQM/PDCA, and sustainable education, as well as publication in indexed databases (Scopus, WoS, SINTA). The findings indicate that PDCA institutionalized through the PPEPP cycle in the Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI) effectively enhances learning quality, participatory leadership, and reflective culture in both schools and universities. Cross-functional collaboration through PLCs/MGMPs, continuous innovation through kaizen, and future orientation through lifelong learning and digital literacy strengthen the implementation of  Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). Theoretically, this research integrates the Deming–ESD–CI paradigms into a single strategic model for sustainable education transformation; practically, it offers an operational roadmap for educational institutions and policymakers to develop quality systems that are collaborative, innovative, and adaptive to global change.

Abstract

Abstract

Intellectual unemployment is a major challenge in the modern education system due to the increasing mismatch between graduate competencies and the needs of the workforce. The transformation of the digital economy, the development of artificial intelligence (AI), and the Industrial Revolution 4.0 require educational institutions to produce graduates who are not only academically superior but also adaptable to technological changes and global industrial needs. However, the Indonesian education system still faces a skills mismatch problem due to a curriculum that tends to be theoretical, less responsive to industrial developments, and has not fully integrated 21st-century skills. This study aims to analyze the role of an industry-based curriculum in improving graduates' job readiness as an effort to reduce intellectual unemployment, while also examining the transformation of the curriculum from a Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) perspective. The study uses a qualitative approach with literature study and critical discourse analysis methods. Data were obtained from reputable international journals indexed by Scopus, accredited national journals, reports from international institutions, and education and employment policy documents. The results show that an industry-based curriculum can improve graduate employability through strengthening project-based learning, industrial internships, digital literacy, and soft skills development. The implementation of the link and match program and the Independent Learning and Independent Campus (MBKM) program also contribute to improving graduates' job readiness. However, from a CDA perspective, the transformation of the industry-based curriculum demonstrates the dominance of economic logic and neoliberalism in education, which directs education as an instrument for providing labor for industry. Therefore, the development of an industry-based curriculum needs to be carried out in a balanced manner so that education is not only oriented towards job market needs but also maintains its humanistic function in developing critical, creative, and socially conscious individuals.
