Abstract

Biology learning often involves complex and abstract information that can increase students’ cognitive load and affect learning effectiveness. Therefore, cognitive load has become an important topic in science education research. This study aims to analyze the development and research trends related to cognitive load in biology learning using a bibliometric approach. Data were collected from the Scopus database, focusing on journal articles and review papers published between 2014 and 2024. A total of 200 documents were analyzed using Biblioshiny. The analysis included co-occurrence, co-authorship, citation, and thematic mapping techniques. The results show an increasing trend in publications, indicating growing attention to cognitive load in biology learning. The findings also reveal that research in this field is interdisciplinary and has shifted from basic cognitive studies toward more applied approaches, particularly in instructional design and learning media. Key authors, journals, and highly cited documents play an important role in shaping research development. Overall, this study provides an overview of research trends and highlights opportunities for future studies in developing effective learning strategies based on cognitive load principles.

Abstract

Abstract

Strong knowledge of ecosystem concepts and critical thinking skills are essential for developing environmentally responsible behavior to address contemporary environmental challenges. This behavior ensures that students not only understand ecological solutions but also actively participate in preserving the environment. This study aims to determine the relationship between students' mastery of ecosystem concepts and critical thinking skills with environmentally responsible behavior. Conducted in February 2025 at SMP Shidqia Islamic School with 112 students, the research employed a descriptive method with a correlational design. Data analysis involved prerequisite tests for normality, homogeneity, linearity, and multicollinearity to ensure validity. The findings indicate a moderate correlation between ecosystem concept mastery and environmentally responsible behavior, as well as between critical thinking skills and environmental responsibility. Furthermore, a simultaneous correlation exists when both ecosystem mastery and critical thinking skills are combined. It is recommended that biology educators integrate critical thinking exercises within ecological curriculum to effectively foster students' environmental responsibility. School policies should prioritize the implementation of active learning models that effectively bridge theoretical ecological knowledge into tangible and sustainable environmentally responsible behaviors within the educational ecosystem.

Abstract

Rapid development and increasing population growth affect river water quality, including the Ciliwung River. The decline in the water quality of the Ciliwung River is caused by organic waste originating from households, industry, livestock, and agriculture, so efforts are being made to manage the water using phytoremediation. Pistia stratiotes and Salvinia molesta are aquatic plants that can absorb heavy metals in polluted water. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of plants Pistia stratiotes and Salvinia molesta in reducing the Ciliwung River's wastewater level. This type of research is laboratory-scale experimental with RAL in 3 treatments (A, B, and C) and 6 replications. Data were analyzed using the ANOVA test with the DMRT further test. The results of the research showed that the treatment of two types of plants had a significant effect on reducing the level of water turbidity with the greatest reduction rate being found in plants Salvinia molesta. The fastest change in color and reduction in the number of leaves occurs in plants Pistia stratiotes, and the levels of AAS contaminants before and after treatment cannot be detected because the detection limit of the smallest limit test parameter possessed by a tool/instrument for measuring a certain number of analytes is different.

Abstract

21st century education demands innovation in learning models that can develop critical thinking, collaborative, creative, and digital literacy skills. In the context of vocational education, particularly chemistry learning in vocational high schools, the main challenges lie in low student engagement and limited application of technology in the learning process. This study aims to examine and develop an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-integrated Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model as an innovative alternative relevant to 21st-century learning needs. The study uses a library research method by examining various scientific sources such as journals, books, and previous research results focusing on the application of PBL and AI in education. The results of the study show that the integration of PBL with AI can improve the effectiveness of chemistry learning in vocational schools through contextual, interactive, and adaptive learning experiences. This model is able to encourage the development of science literacy, vocational skills, and student readiness for work through the application of smart technology in solving real problems. The implementation of this model requires an increase in teachers' capacity in digital literacy and AI-based learning design.  It is recommended that vocational schools gradually adopt an AI-based PBL learning approach with the support of teacher training and adequate technological infrastructure in order to realize innovative, effective, and highly competitive chemistry learning in the digital age.

Abstract

After being observed as a whole, Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park has a high diversity of Ferns. This research aims to describe Ferns in the Ciwalen Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park, so it is hopefully could describe the diversity of ferns in that path. The Inventory of ferns is done by using exploration method with random sampling technique which then identified with General Key to Malayan Fern referral. The results of this research showed that there are ten types of ferns that have been founded in the Ciwalen Gunung Gede Panggrango National Park, such as Sphaerostephanos sp., Asplenium truncata, Nephrolepis davallioides, Botrychium daucifolium, Selaginella opaca, Huperzia phlegmaria, Equisetum ramosissimum, Didymochlaena truncatula, Hymenophyllum sp., and Diplazium poliferum. Features any distinctive Ferns can be seen from the form such as  rhizome, type of  frond, an accessory, the sorus, habitats that were found, and others.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of botanical literacy among 11th-grade students at SMAN 15 Jakarta. The research employed a survey method using a questionnaire instrument distributed via Google Form, involving 56 students (25 male and 31 female) who had studied botany material within the Biology curriculum. The data were analyzed using a descriptive qualitative approach by classifying scores into botanical literacy categories, calculating frequencies and percentages, and analyzing the relationships between each question indicator to determine the students' level of botanical literacy. The results showed that 15 students (26.79%) were in the Very Low category, 3 students (5.36%) in the Low category, 16 students (28.57%) in the Fair category, 18 students (32.14%) in the High category, and 4 students (7.14%) in the Very High category. Based on the indicators, the General Characteristics of Plants indicator obtained the highest average score (78.57), while the Plant Identification indicator received the lowest average score (28.57). These findings indicate that students have a better understanding of basic plant concepts than the ability to identify plants directly. This research provides an overview of the variation in students' botanical literacy levels and can serve as a foundation for developing more contextual and applicative Biology learning models to enhance comprehension, particularly in the aspects of plant identification and classification.
