Abstract

This research examines a model of muallaf development based on local wisdom within a Muslim minority community, with a case study in Ngadas Village, Poncokusumo District, Malang Regency. This village has a unique socio-religious character, where Muslims are a minority group, mostly increasing through conversion due to marriage and social interaction. This condition necessitates a development pattern that is not only doctrinal but also adaptive to local culture and interreligious relations. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data was collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed interactively through condensation, presentation, and conclusion drawing with data triangulation. The results show that muallaf development is carried out through a non-directive community-based model that integrates local wisdom into socio-religious traditions, such as tahlilan, Friday prayers, and daily interactions. This model contributes to strengthening the Islamic identity of muallaf and maintaining social harmony, although it still faces limitations in resources and development planning.

The element of memorizing or reading prayers, from takbiratul ihram to greetings. (2) Implementation of learning prayer material using a behavioural system model for class VII students in 3 steps; first, the teacher has planned by making a lesson plan for prayer material whose reference is in the Muhammadiyah HPT book. Second, the implementation of learning begins with the teacher opening the lesson, presenting prayer material by reading and memorizing prayer readings, starting from takbiratul ihram, Iftita', ruku', I'tidal, prostration, sitting between two prostrations, initial and final tasyahud and greetings. The methods used are lecture, memorization, drill, reward and punishment—learning strategies with peer teaching (peer teaching). Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum at SMPIT Insan Madani represents a strategic innovation in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) to address contemporary educational challenges. This curriculum emphasizes student autonomy, differentiated instruction, and the integration of technology, aiming to reinforce Islamic values while aligning religious teachings with Islamic philosophy. Utilizing a qualitative methodology, this study collects data through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis involves filtering relevant information, aligning it with theoretical frameworks, and evaluating educators' roles in PAI instruction. The implementation of PAI learning innovation follows a differentiated approach consisting of three key components: content, process, and product. Content differentiation involves assigning varied learning materials and tasks tailored to students’ comprehension levels. For example, students grouped based on their understanding receive different assignments to better suit their needs. Process differentiation allows teachers to assess students’ proficiency and adapt instructional methods accordingly. In the context of prayer lessons, students who face difficulties in reading are given corrective guidance, while those more advanced engage directly in practice activities. Product differentiation empowers students to demonstrate their understanding through creative outputs such as summaries or PowerPoint presentations, submitted independently to the teacher. This innovative approach reflects a personalized and transformative learning experience, ensuring that each student receives education suited to their individual abilities. The method aligns with the core principles of the Merdeka Curriculum by fostering autonomy, spiritual growth, and academic excellence. Overall, the differentiated PAI learning model at SMPIT Insan Madani serves as a practical response to students' diverse learning needs, equipping them with balanced spiritual and intellectual competencies relevant to the digital era and the demands of 21st-century education.

Abstract

Religious moderation has become an important educational agenda in Indonesia, particularly in strengthening tolerance, non-violence, national commitment, and respect for diversity among students. At the junior high school level, Islamic Religious Education plays a strategic role in introducing and internalizing moderation values. However, previous studies indicate that the implementation of religious moderation in schools still faces various challenges. This study aims to systematically review previous research on the challenges of religious moderation through Islamic Religious Education in junior high schools and to develop a conceptual framework based on recurring findings. This study employed a Systematic Literature Review approach guided by the PRISMA framework. The literature search was conducted using Publish or Perish to retrieve records from Google Scholar and Scopus for the 2020–2026 publication period. From 1,887 initially identified records, 9 articles met the inclusion criteria and were included in the final synthesis. The findings show that the challenges of religious moderation through Islamic Religious Education are shaped by three interconnected dimensions: school policy and institutional support, religious understanding, and socio-digital dynamics. These challenges include limited curriculum integration, insufficient learning resources, limited religious moderation literacy, differences in teachers’ and students’ religious understanding, limited dialogical learning practices, and the need for technology-based learning media in responding to students’ socio-digital contexts. This review contributes a structured conceptual framework that clarifies how institutional, pedagogical, religious, and digital factors interact in the implementation of religious moderation through Islamic Religious Education in junior high schools.

Abstract

This study explores the important role of Muhammadiyah Sufism in building character, optimising the purification of students' beliefs, and exploring the positive impact of the Islamic spirituality approach implemented by Muhammadiyah. The research method used involves qualitative data collection with a phenomenological approach involving semi-structured interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation with Muhammadiyah educational actors who have implemented the Sufi approach, namely the principal, teachers, and several students of Muhammadiyah Elementary School, Lahat. The data analysis technique uses the Miles and Huberman method, which focuses on the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion, for data validity techniques using triangulation. The research findings show that Muhammadiyah Sufism can strengthen the beliefs of Muhammadiyah Elementary School Lahat students, increase a deep understanding of Islamic teachings, and form positive characters in living their daily lives. This can be done through spiritual practices such as reading the Qur'an, sunnah prayers, dhikr, and sunnah fasting. This study also found that the implementation of Sufism in Muhammadiyah education helps students recognise and avoid practices inconsistent with pure Islamic teachings, such as excessive tawassul (circumambulation) and extreme meditation. Thus, Muhammadiyah Sufism education serves as a tool to purify faith and shape individuals with noble character and positive societal contributions. This study emphasises the importance of integrating Sufi values into the educational curriculum to create a generation that is intelligent, ethical, and capable of facing the challenges of the modern era. A limitation of this study is its limited focus on Muhammadiyah Elementary School in Lahat, which may reduce the generalizability of the findings regarding the implementation of Sufism in the broader context of Muhammadiyah education.
