Abstract

Background: Malnutrition-induced hepatotoxicity is defined as liver damage caused by insufficient nutrition, which results in oxidative stress and damage to liver cells. Objectives: The present study aimed to investigate the protective effects of banana, cassava, and corn flours on hepatotoxicity induced by malnutrition in male rats. Methods: Twenty-four male rats were divided into six groups (n=4): (1) rats received 30 g/rat normal feed daily for 45 days; (2) rats received 30 g malnutrition feed daily for 45 days; rats received 30 g/rat malnutrition feed daily for 15 days and then treated with normal feed (3), banana flour (4), cassava flour (5), and corn flour (6), for 30 days. The malnutrition groups received a diet with protein deficiency for 15 days, then were treated with a diet according to each treatment group. The liver enzymes were analyzed, including aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels. Furthermore, the liver's histopathological changes in each group were evaluated using Hematoxylin eosin staining. Results: The AST levels in malnourished male rats significantly (p<0.05) increased (240.75±67.23 U/L) compared to the control group (170.00±33.52 U/L). While, the ALT levels (66.75±12.69 U/L) were decreased compared to the control group (98.75±26.61 U/L). Furthermore, malnutrition diet in rats caused significant changes in liver histology, including inflammatory cell infiltration, necrosis, congestion of the central vein, cytoplasmic vacuolization, and widened hepatic sinusoid. Interestingly, normalized AST and ALT levels and improved liver histology were observed in malnourished rats after receiving normal feed and flour of banana, cassava, and corn. Conclusions: Banana, cassava, and corn flours exhibited hepatoprotective activity on malnutrition-induced hepatotoxicity in malnourhised male rats.

Abstract

Abstract: Based on the survey conducted by Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association (Asosiasi Penyelenggara Jasa Internet Indonesia/APJII), people in the age range of 19-34 years old are the main users of the internet with a percentage of 49,52%, people in the age range of 35-54 years old have the percentage of 29.55%, followed by people in the age range of 13-18 years old with the percentage of 16,68%, and people above 54 years old have the least percentage (4,24%). The highest number of internet users are in their productive age. This modern era demands convenience in all aspects, including student services. Thus, a digital application is needed. Since 2017, reward submission is still performed manually; students download the form from the Student Affair's (Kemahasiswaan) website before submitting it to the Student Affair office, and the data entry is done manually using Microsoft Excel. This procedure is ineffective, moreover, with the Covid-19 lockdown on campus, the procedure will cause inconvenience for both parties. Therefore, the service will move to a digital application system. Witnessing the technological opportunity and challenges in the modern era, this study aims to facilitate and provide effective and practical services in proposing rewards for students and supervisors. The implementation of the digital application for applying achievement rewards will make it easier for students to apply for rewards to boost the talent interests of students and supervisors. This digital system contains three stages: 1) registration stage where students fill in their identity and their achievements, 2) supervision process by the lecturer, and 3) submission of students' certificates, etc. This study implemented the ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) method. The author expects this digital application facilitates students in applying for rewards and provides effective and practical services. The result of this study is making easier access for students in applying for rewards. Besides, this digital application can fulfill the data needs of Student Affair Ranking System (Sistem Pemeringkatan Kemahasiswaan/Simkatmawa) to escalate UM's national ranking. The development of this digital application is also to meet the requirement of Key Performance Indicators (Indikator Kinerja Utama/IKU) number three, which is gathering and counting the number of outstanding student supervisors in various competitions. Keywords: digitalization system, rewards, Simkatmawa, application Abstrak: Berdasarkan survei yang dilakukan Asosiasi Penyelenggara Jasa Internet Indonesia (APJII), pengguna internet dilihat dari usia, rentang usia 19-34 tahun menjadi pengguna utama dengan persentase 49,52%, usia 35-54 tahun sebesar 29,55%, 13-18 tahun sebesar 16,68%, dan lebih dari usia 54 tahun sebesar 4,24%.

Abstract

This research examines the role and impact of Indonesia's Consumer Dispute Settlement Agency (BPSK) in promoting fair business practices and protecting consumer rights in a changing economic environment. It focuses on Consumer Protection Law No. 8 of 1999 and uses a legal research method to analyze how effective BPSK is at resolving disputes between consumers and businesses. The findings show that, while BPSK offers alternative dispute resolution methods like mediation and conciliation, it struggles with issues such as interference from the courts, lack of independence, and limited authority. The Indonesian Supreme Court often overturns BPSK's decisions, which lowers public trust in the agency. Additionally, BPSK's reactive approach to complaints and procedural delays limit its ability to actively protect consumer rights. This study suggests that structural reforms are needed to give BPSK more independence and power, including clearer rules for resolving disputes and the ability to impose penalties for violations. By addressing these challenges, Indonesia can strengthen BPSK's role in protecting consumer rights and ensuring fair business practices, leading to a better legal framework for consumer protection.

Abstract

Protists are organisms that have close involvement with student life, especially in maintaining the balance of ecosystems on earth. Literacy instruments about protists are important to develop because students need to know the relationship between protists and life. This instrument was developed because there is no specific instrument to measure student protist literacy. The purpose of this study is to develop a new protist literacy assessment (N-PLA) for university students. The N-PLA development process consists of three stages, namely, i) dimension development, item development, and expert validation; ii) exploratory factor analysis (EFA), content validity, and data reduction; iii) internal consistency through confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The results of the study found seven dimensions of protist literacy with a total of 36 items: conceptual knowledge (CnK) (7 item), relation information (RlI) (6 item), fact evaluation (FcE) (5 item), real solution (RlS) (5 item), argument identification (ArI) (3 item), self-confidence (S-C) (4 item), and scientific value (ScV) (6 item). The developed N-PLA has a relationship between dimensions and items based on EFA and CFA test results. N-PLA has two types of instruments, namely by using tests and questionnaires to be able to measure the cognitive and affective of students. N-PLA is recommended as a measuring tool that can measure the protist literacy of university students. The results of measuring student’s protist literacy become a reference in empowering students protist literacy in the learning process in university.

Abstract

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with high epidemiological report data. Pathogenesis in HCC also involves several signaling pathways. This study aims to evaluate the in vitro activity of Moringa seed NanoChitosan against Hep G2 liver cancer cells and Co-Treatment with Doxorubicin. Initially, nanoparticles were prepared by extracting Moringa seeds, formulating them into nano chitosan, and then characterizing the compounds and particle sizes. The IC50 dose was investigated using the MTT assay. Then, the IC50 dose was confirmed in more detail through immunofluorescence, betatrophin gene, several genes in the Wnt-βcatenin-CyclinD1 proliferation pathway, and the addition of the apoptotic effector Caspase-3 using RT-qPCR analysis. Each treatment used a single dose of NCH-Mosee and co-treatment or combination with 4 μg/ml doxorubicin. The IC50 dose was 994 μg/ml in single treatment and 649 μg/ml in combined treatment with Dox. Hep G2 showed a decrease in the expression level of each parameter measured with increasing single dose and combination treatment (p < 0.050). Histologically, cells shrank, betatrophin expression was inhibited, and luminescence was seen, which decreased with increasing dose. In conclusion, NCH-Mosee with dose-tracking toxicity combined with Dox can suppress the viability of Hep G2 cells.

Abstract

Digital literacy is important for every student to have. Digital literacy needs to be trained and learned to form a young generation that is digitally literate so that they are ready to participate in the digital community with confidence in communicating, sharing and distributing knowledge in a useful and efficient way, provides readiness to adapt successfully to a changing work environment and increasing self-control as a solution to the spread of false information that continues to repeat itself and is increasing in number. This research aims to measure students' digital literacy at SMAN 1 Kesesi. The methods used were filling out questionnaires and conducting interviews. Seventy-six eleventh-grade students of SMAN 1 Kesesi, Pekalongan Residence, Central Java, Indonesia, and two biology teachers were selected as the research sample in this study. The research results showed the following aspects: Firstly, the student's digital literacy questionnaire is 71%, which is classified as moderate in digital literacy indicators including finding, using sources, selecting, evaluating, considering sources, message effects, and using data to produce work; secondly, some of the things that teachers do to train these two skills are by inviting students to search for information via Google/search engines and video searches to support the teacher's explanations and using Canva to make some presentation. Unfortunately, teachers do not train them on how to search using appropriate keywords and trusted sources. Finally, teachers must be more active and innovative in maximizing the wise use of digital media to improve students' digital literacy.
