Abstract

This study aims to examine the potential of the process oriented guided inquiry learning (POGIL) model in empowering students' critical thinking skills in learning. This research is a library research on relevant theories and research results. The results showed that so far learning has not taught critical thinking in class. Critical thinking skills is a basic skill that can help students analyze arguments, make conclusions using reasoning, assess or evaluate, and make decisions or solve problems. Through POGIL, students actively think critically at each stage of their learning. The POGIL stages are orientation, exploration, concept formation, application, and closure.

Abstract

The research of impact project-based instruction guided lesson study in Educational Research Methodology course has been conducted in 2010 until 2012. The research was focused to improve student achievement of learning outcomes in Educational Research Methodology course at Department of Biology, State University of Malang. The learning outcome was defined on three skill levels, understanding of educational research basic concept, creating of research proposal, and final grade. The research approach was classroom action research guided lesson study. The data is analyzed by comparing student score with the minimum requirement score and the improvement of score from cycle 1 to cycle 2 and cycle 3. The mean score of understanding research basic concept increase from cycle 1 to cycle 3. The implementation of project-based instruction guided lesson study improved the ability of students to create research proposal. The percentage of studentswho gotthe final gradeof A andA- increased from priorresearchtocycle1, cycle 2and cycle 3. On the contrary, percentageof studentswho have final gradeC, D,andEwere reduced.  The study showed that project-based instruction guided lesson study improved the ability of students to achieve learning outcomes, comprehend research basic concept, creating research proposal, and higher final grade

Abstract

The Science Curriculum 2013 is designed to develop students’ scientific literacy. Scientific literacy involves mastery of science concept, process skill, attitude, as well as writing skill. This study investigated the attainment of scientific literacy and biology competencies of 10th grade science students at SMAK Kolese Santo Yusup, Malang, Indonesia. The method of this study was quasi experiment by using nonequivalent pretest posttest control group design. Based on existing theoretical framework, assessment were developed to know the concept mastery, ability to apply biology concept to solve authentic problem, and publish the findings through on line social media. To improve student’s scientific literacy, the active learning model called Terjun Tulis Saji (TTS) was applied. The TTS method guided the students to collect data and information based on their question or problem, analyze of the data and information to construct new understanding and thinking, represent and communicate the findings. The result of the study showed significant differences of scientific literacy and biology competencies between control and experiment group. The effect of TTS on scientific literacy and biology competencies of students in biology lesson were discussed.

Abstract

 The development of learning tools for Environmental Education to develop students' environmental literacy skills are indispensable. Methods of research and development using 4-D Thiagarajan (Define, Design, Develop and Disseminate). The result of the development of the device include syllabi, lesson plans, modules, and assessment instruments tested in class IV A Lesson Study by performing well. The trial results actually (validation testing) with pre-experiment (class IV B) can improve the literacy skills of students include aspects of environmental knowledge, attitudes, and skills and habituation. The trial results actually (class IV B) obtained N-Score Gain knowledge and attitude tests of 0.64 (medium), and N-Gain Score of the attitude scale questionnaire 0.67 (moderate). While aspects of the student's skills include practical activities seed, move into the growing medium, and the practice of making compost with N-Gain Score of 0.54 (medium) and 0.69 (moderate). Activity habituation maintain plants and credible form of checks compost with N-Gain Score of 0.48 (moderate). The results of research and development is expected to be utilized by the school and can be distributed to other schools.

Abstract

Development of animal ecology module with a material of macrozoobenthos community in higher education aimed to develop teaching materials based on the needs of students of Biology Education. The study was conducted from January to March 2014. This research is a development research of module material. Module development is based on study results at the stage of Structure of Macrozoobenthos Community in the Mangrove area of Bukit Batu Beach of Bengkalis Regency. Research and development of animal ecology module are conducted by following 4D model steps. The results of module material development of macrozoobenthos community are used as teaching materials of animal ecology at Biology Education Dept., FTTE- Islamic University of Riau. Results of animal ecology module development obtained was based on expert validation of animal ecology material expert, teaching material, and field practitioners which amounted to 92.59%, 94.86%, and 92.4%, respectively with qualification of excellent and unnecessary to be revised. A test result of small group which was conducted by 30 respondents of students of Biology education, FTTE- Islamic University of Riau amounted to 78.4% with qualification of good and unnecessary to be revised. Module of animal ecology can be used as proper teaching materials by Biology Education student.

Abstract

The results of biology learning observation show that there are many constraints during the learning process in the class and consultation meeting between teacher and students. The think-pair-share-write based on hybrid learning was conducted to analyze the effect on metacognitive skills, creative thinking and learning outcomes. The research design was quasi experiment with pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group design. The independent variable is think-pair-share-write based on Hybrid learning model, while the dependent variables are metacognitive skills, creative thinking, and cognitive learning outcomes. Metacognitive skills are measured by using metacognitive rubrics. Creative thinking skills and cognitive learning outcomes are measured by using a description test. The data were taken by conducting pretest and posttest. The hypothesis test used was anakova with level of significance 0,05 (P <0,05), as the test result was significant then the test was continued to LSD. Before the anakova test, normality and homogeneity test were performed. The results showed that think-pair-share-write based on Hybrid Learning significantly affecting: 1) the metacognitive skills with F arithmetic of 183,472 and Sig. 0,000; 2) the creative thinking skill with F value of 325,111 and Sig. 0,000; 3) the cognitive learning outcomes with F arithmetic of 175.068 and Sig. 0,000.

Abstract

This study aims to reflect on educational programs on environmental sustainability by measuring the environmental literacy of high school students in Denpasar City and identifying the relationship between environmental literacy domains. The research subjects were 154 students who were taken by random sampling technique. Data analysis used descriptive statistics, Pearson product-moment correlation test, and multiple regression test. The results of data analysis showed: 1) environmental literacy of high school students in Denpasar City was categorized as moderate; 2) the domain of knowledge and cognitive skills is high, while the domain of attitudes and behavior towards the environment is moderate; 3) the knowledge domain has a significant relationship with the cognitive skill, the attitude has a significant relationship with the behavioral domain, while there is no significant relationship between the knowledge domain and the attitude domain. The findings of this study indicate that the empowerment of environmental literacy through educational institutions is not yet optimal. Therefore, local and operational educational policies are needed in the learning process to improve the environmental literacy of high school students in Denpasar City

Abstract

Research activities have been studied extensively to improve the quality of learning, especially in higher education. This research aims to explore the mastery of the term of research ( TR or IR ) and research skills (RS or KR) of toward of grade point average (GPA or IPK). This research uses a quantitative approach to the object of students in natural science education program a number of 67 people who follow biotechnology courses academic year 2017/2018. Data collection with tests and aggregation of documentation. Data analysis technique is done by quantitative descriptive analysis. The decision indicates that the exact number of IR is 66.0 (easy category) and KS is 65.8 (short category). The result of correlation analysis shows ???????????????????????? = 6,147˃ 3,140 = ???????????????????????? = (0,05;2;64) or in other words there a relationship of IR and KR collectively to GPA. This study concludes that there is a significant correlation between IR and KR guards in the same period as the GPA. Based on the investigation, it is expected to provide benefits as one of the considerations for the selection and determination of learning mods related to learning. It is expected to be useful as a consideration for the selection and determination of study-related modes for improvement.

Abstract

The purpose of the research and development is to produce teaching materials such as textbooks supporting course in Reproduction Physiology research based on the toxicity analysis for students who take a course in Reproduction Physiology. This research is a research and development, where the results of research become the teaching materials developed supporting Reproduction Physiology course. Development models have prepared using ADDIE Model. Sources of data in this research include laboratory research and validation of the results sheet of Biotechnology material experts, instructional design experts, the media, and the trials in students. The analysis is used quantitative and qualitative.The results of the research have developed become teaching materials like text books supporting courses and have been validated by the Reproduction Physiology, the Reproduction Physiology material experts, instructional design experts, the media, the individual testing, and group trials. Based on the results of the validation material have obtained value of 95%, the results of the design validation and media experts to get the value of 93.75%, it means that the teaching materials has been developed which suitable to be used as a teaching material support biotechnology course. While the experiments performed to get a data the percentage of students that are equal to 88,25 % and included in the category of “very good”, but still need to be revised based on advices and comments from students.

Abstract

Information Literacy (IL) and Science Process Skills (SPS) have been widely examined to enhance the quality of learning, especially in higher education, in which information technology has become the basis of human life. This research aims to explore the relationship between IL and SPS to the grade point average (GPA) of pre-service science student. Determination of samples using a typical case sampling is 278 students from 329 active students in the program at S1-Science Education, Surabaya State University (UNESA). This research uses quantitative approaches. The source of data is a test result of IL and SPS towards a GPA in the odd 2017/2018 semester. The data were analyzed using the Minitab 16 program. The results of the data analysis showed that   = 26,69 ˃ 3,03 =   = (0,05;2;275) or in other words support data to reject   with confidence level 95%. This investigation concludes that there is a significant relationship between variable information literacy and science process skills together against the grade point average. The results of the research are expected to be one of the considerations in choosing and determining the right learning of science teachers,
