Abstract

This study examines the translation strategies used in the Klang Valley Region of Malaysia. The primary objectives of this research are to identify the most common strategies, analyze the effectiveness of the menu descriptions, and provide recommendations for improving translation practices in the food industry. A qualitative research design was employed, utilizing a frequency and descriptive analysis framework. Data were collected from a sample of Middle Eastern restaurant menus through convenience sampling. The strategies identified were categorized based on Vinay and Darbelnet’s model of translation strategies, while Nida and Taber’s componential analysis examined the effectiveness of the menu descriptions. The findings reveal that literal translation, transliteration, generalization, and cultural substitution are the most commonly used strategies, each with varying degrees of effectiveness in maintaining cultural integrity and communicative clarity. The results highlight the tension between preserving authenticity and ensuring comprehensibility, underscoring the importance of functional and culturally sensitive translation in multicultural food settings. This research contributes to the broader field of applied translation studies by shedding light on underexplored domains of culinary discourse and offers practical implications for menu translators, restaurateurs, and tourism stakeholders aiming to improve cross-cultural communication.

Abstract

Kaliring is a sacred structure used in the Wara death ceremony among the Hindu Kaharingan community in South Barito Regency, Central Kalimantan. This tradition serves a dual purpose: physically as a container for ancestral skulls and symbolically as a representation of the relationship between humans and ancestral spirits. However, modernization, lifestyle changes, and the lack of academic documentation have led to a gradual decline in its preservation and meaning. This study aims to describe the physical form of Kaliring, identify the symbols contained within it, and analyze the cultural and religious values reflected in the context of the Wara ceremony. The research employs a qualitative approach with a naturalistic method. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with religious and customary leaders, and documentation studies of artifacts and ritual records. The findings reveal that Kaliring is made of ironwood in a rectangular shape supported by two pillars and decorated with motifs of animals, plants, human figures, and red cloth symbolizing purity and spiritual strength. These symbols embody educational (religious, social, ethical, and character), cultural, and economic values that reflect the belief system and social order of the Dayak Kaharingan people. The culmination of the Wara ceremony is marked by the purification of skulls by the Kandung (holy person), followed by their placement into the Kaliring as a symbol of the ancestral spirit’s (liau) transformation into a deity (kalilungan). The study concludes that Kaliring is a sacred cultural heritage that reinforces spiritual identity and preserves the continuity of local wisdom within the Hindu Kaharingan community.

Abstract

The improvement of public transportation service quality is highly influenced by the competence, performance, and behavior of drivers, who serve as the frontline of service delivery. The Public Transport Driver Certification Training (SPAU) is conducted to enhance professionalism, driving safety, and service ethics; however, its effectiveness in the field needs to be evaluated comprehensively. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of SPAU training on drivers’ performance and behavior, as well as its impact on passenger satisfaction, using an integrated analytical approach. The research employs a quantitative approach with data triangulation from drivers, their direct supervisors, and passengers. Analyses are conducted using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to examine causal relationships among variables, Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) to identify service attributes requiring priority improvement, and the Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) to measure overall passenger satisfaction. The results indicate that competencies acquired from the training significantly influence improvements in drivers’ performance and behavior, which in turn positively affect passenger satisfaction. IPA analysis reveals several service attributes that still require improvement, while the CSI score shows that overall passenger satisfaction falls within a good category. These findings underscore the importance of strengthening the curriculum, providing post-certification guidance, and implementing continuous monitoring to ensure the sustainability of the training’s impact on public transportation service quality.

Abstract

Road conditions without lighting often pose a high risk of traffic accidents, especially in rural areas or on alternative routes. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of using white and yellow headlamps on vehicles in detecting objects under dark road conditions. The methods employed were field experiments and interviews with drivers. The results show that the use of white headlamps, based on SWOT analysis, is positioned in Quadrant I at the coordinates 0.92 and 0.23, while the use of yellow headlamps, based on SWOT analysis, is positioned in Quadrant I at the coordinates 0.47 and 0.08. These findings indicate that the use of white headlamps is still superior to yellow headlamps under nighttime conditions, although the difference is not highly significant on roads without lighting

Abstract

The The rapid development of digital media has transformed communication patterns and online behavior among Generation Z, particularly in relation to social media ethics. Islamic digital media has emerged as a medium for da’wah and value education, expected to promote ethical conduct in digital spaces. This study examines the influence of exposure to Islamic digital media and value literacy on the social media ethics of Muslim Generation Z. Using a quantitative survey approach, data were collected from 37 respondents selected through purposive sampling from a population of 41 individuals. The instrument employed a Likert-scale questionnaire, and data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with SPSS. The findings reveal that exposure to Islamic digital media and value literacy simultaneously have a significant effect on social media ethics (F = 7.670; p < 0.05), explaining 31.1% of the variance (R² = 0.311). However, partial analysis shows that only value literacy has a positive and significant effect, while exposure to Islamic digital media is not statistically significant. These results highlight the central role of internalized values in fostering ethical social media behavior among Muslim Generation Z.

Abstract

This study analyzes the contribution of Digital Instructional Leadership (DIL) and Distributed Leadership (DL) in improving teacher performance through the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) approach in the context of Indonesian value education. The research uses a qualitative method with data collection through observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and focused group discussions. The study found that the implementation of DIL facilitates the integration of digital technology in the learning process, while DL encourages effective collaboration between teachers. Coaching Supervision based on the Ki Hadjar Dewantara Education Trilogy is a key element that mediates the effective implementation of PjBL. However, this study also identifies challenges such as resistance to change, limited technological facilities, and lack of technological competence of teachers. As a solution, it is recommended to strengthen technology training, collaboration between teachers, and intensive supervision support. This research emphasizes the importance of synergy between DIL, DL, and PjBL in creating meaningful learning that instills national values.
