Abstract

ABSTRACTMalnutrition still becomes a problem in developing countries such as Indonesia. In Boyolali regency the prevalence of stunting and wasting of infants was 27,5 percent and 6,6 percent respectively. The aim of this study was to analyze the correlation between chronic energy deficiency and Anemia on pregnant mothers with the nutritional status of infants aged 6-12 months. Prospective cohort design was implemented in authorized administration of 6 Community Health Centers of Boyolali Regency. A number of 40 pregnant mothers who had record of chronic energy deficiency and Anemia during third trimester and have infants aged 6-12 months participated in the study. Statistic analyzed were performed using the Peason’s Correlation method. The study failed to show the relationship between chronic energy deficiency during pregnancy and z-score of weight for age (WAZ), height for age (HAZ) and weight for height (WHZ) of infants p>0.05 while anemic pregnant mother found a correlation with Z-score of weight for height (WHZ) of infants (p<0.05), but had not correlation with z-score of weight for age (WAZ), height for age (HAZ) (p>0.05) of infant 6-12 months. Thus, early improvement nutrition program for adolescence should be done to prevent malnutrition in pregnant mothers such as chronic energy deficiency and anemia.ABSTRAK Gangguan gizi masih merupakan masalah di negara berkembang termasuk Indonesia. Abstract

ABSTRACTSome of causes of stunting are the deferment of early breastfeeding initiation and the administration of the non-exclusive breastfeeding. The objective of this study was to elaborate relationship of early breastfeeding initiation and exclusive breastfeeding administration history to the stunting. This sudy used the observational analytical research method with the cross-sectional design. Its subjects were 33 stunting and 77 non-stunting children aged 6-24 months in Boyolali Regency. Data was analyzed by using the chi-square test and multiple logistic regression analysis. The stunting children who got the early breastfeeding initiation were 14, and those who did not get the early breastfeeding initiation were 19. The stunting children who got the exclusive breastfeeding were 4 and those who did not get the exclusive breastfeeding were 29. Early breastfeeding initiation and exclusive breastfeeding had a significant correlation with the stunting as indicated by the p-value <0.05. The children who did not get the early breastfeeding initiation have the possibility of 3.69 times higher to suffer from stunting than those who got the early breastfeeding initiation. In addition, the children who did not get the exclusive breastfeeding have the possibility of 9.5 times higher to suffer from stunting than those who got the exclusive breastfeeding. Therefore, nutrition education to the gestational mothers on the importance of exclusive breastfeeding administration is required.ABSTRAK Penyebab masalah stunting antara lain akibat dari penundaan inisiasi menyusu dini (IMD), dan pemberian air susu ibu (ASI) tidak eksklusif.

Abstract

Pregnant women with past history of CED have a higher risk 2,76 times to suffer anemia than normal pregnant women. Fe and folic acid supplementation is one program to overcome iron deficiency anemia in the pregnant women in Boyolali but the incidence rate of anemia remains high (42,9%). This study was to analyze the relationship of food intake, Fe and folic acid supplementation on hemoglobin level in pregnant women with history of CED and anemia of breastfeeding women. This research study used analytic observation with cross sectional approach. The subject of 42 breastfeeding women with past history of CED and anemia in the third trimester of pregnancy in five public health centers in Boyolali. Data of supplementation and nutrient intake was obtained by interview. Nutritional status was determined using upper arm circumference and BMI. Hemoglobin level was measured by using cyanmethemoglobin method. Statiscally analyzed using correlation and multiple regression tests. The breastfeeding women had low food intake (<70% RDA) including macro and micro nutrients. Food intake and nutritional status in breastfeeding women negatively affected hemoglobin level in breastfeeding women (B=-0,005; p=0,040 and B=-0,134; p=0,016 respectively). Fe and folic acid supplementation in pregnant women  with CED and anemia significantly influenced hemoglobin level during breastfeeding (B=0,720; p=0,016). Completed supplementation of iron-folic acid in pregnant women with CED and anemia could increase 0,720 g/dL hemoglobin levels during breastfeeding. Abstract

Many cases of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacterial infections are caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae (K.pn), an infectious disease bacterium. Hospital inpatients can be exposed to this occurrence; MDR has transformed 26.96% of infections at Klaten Hospital into highly infectious biofilms, while 54.49% of infections have produced biofilms. Approximately 80% of bacterial illnesses resistant to antibiotics are caused by biofilm-forming bacteria. To reduce biofilm formation, antibacterial compounds, one of which comes from natural products, are necessary. Renowned for its essential oil, Cinnamomum burmanii Bark Oil (CbBO) has been utilized extensively in herbal medicine to combat pathogenic bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans, Enterobacter spp., and Staphylococcus aureus. This study aims to evaluate CbBO’s antibacterial capabilities using the microdilution method and its antibiofilm properties against K. pneumoniae ATCC 700603 using the MTT test. A CbBO minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of 0.25 mg/mL and a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 0.125 mg/mL were employed for antibacterial activity. The antibiofilm potential was determined by measuring the minimum biofilm eradication concentration (MBEC) at 0.5 mg/mL and the minimum biofilm inhibition concentration (MBIC) at 0.25 mg/mL. In conclusion, CbBO demonstrated antimicrobial and antibiofilm qualities. However,                   a greater concentration of CbBO was required for antibiofilm formation than for antibacterial purposes.

Abstract

Mucositis is a common complication in cancer patients undergoing 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) chemotherapy. Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa) extract in synbiotic yogurt could be a beneficial alternative because it might change the inflammatory response and oral microbiota. The study aimed to investigate the effects of synbiotic roselle extract yogurt on inflammatory responses and oral microbiota in oral mucositis caused by 5-FU. An experimental study with twenty-four Sprague-Dawley rats divided into four groups (n=6): healthy control (NC), disease control (PC), synbiotic roselle extract yogurt therapy (P1), and standard therapy (P2) groups. This study evaluated the number of bacterial colonies, expression of COX-2 and caspase-1, and levels of IL-1β and VEGF (days 4 and 7). The P1 group had a significantly increased beneficial lactic acid bacteria (6.91±0.87) and a decrease in pathogenic bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus (3.89±0.05), Escherichia coli (0), and Enterobacter aerogenes (1.78±0.29), compared to the PC group. Additionally, there was a statistically significant increase in VEGF levels in the tissue (0.07±0.03 ng/mL), a decrease in serum IL-1β levels (48.02±10.29 pg/mL), and an expression of caspase-1 and COX-2 compared to the PC group (p<0.05). Synbiotic roselle extract yogurt shows promise as a therapeutic strategy for managing mucositis by restoring microbial balance and mitigating inflammation.

Abstract

Preeclampsia (PE) stands as a prominent cause of maternal mortality in developing nations, yet a standardized therapy for PE has not been established. Some pregnant women in Lampung have consumed the water of young kopyor coconut fruit from the Kalianda variety (WKK), although its therapeutic effects remain unexplored. This study aimed to investigate WKK phytochemicals through in vitro and silico analyses. Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LCMS) was employed for phytochemical analysis, while an in silico study involved Autodock, Autodock Tools, Autodock Vina, Biovia Discovery Studio 2020, and Open Babel GUI, alongside pharmacokinetics prediction using the pkCSM strategy. The study assessed the inhibitory potential of WKK on Gentiatibetine and curcumenolacto C, targeting the PE ACE2 receptor (1R24) through molecular docking with the 3D structure. Post-docking analysis, including binding affinities, hydrophobic interactions, and pharmacokinetic predictions, was conducted. WKK exhibited relatively low binding affinities for Gentiatibetine (-4.86 kcal/mol), curcumenolactone C (-2.96 kcal/mol), and aspirin (-5.12 kcal/mol). Multiple hydrophobic interactions were observed, such as Van der Waals, Salt Bridge, Conventional Hydrogen Bond, Alkyl, 162, and Lys 129. The receptor IR displayed a high bond-free energy, like aspirin docked with the same gene receptor. Pharmacokinetics predictions indicated that WKK possesses a favorable profile. In conclusion, WKK phytochemicals demonstrated a notable docking score comparable to aspirin, suggesting its potential for preventive therapy use.

Abstract

Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) in female adolescents is one of the health problems, which occupied 8th position as a cause of global disability and is the main cause of anemia in reproductive women. Iron tablet supplementation is the government program to reduce IDA prevalence in Indonesia but often results in gastrointestinal side effects. Jamaican cherries fruits contain vitamin C, iron and flavonoids, which play essential roles in iron metabolism. This study aimed to investigate the effects of Jamaican cherries fruits ethanol extract on clinical manifestations and behavior changes in female Wistar rats. This randomized controlled trial with pre-posttest control group design used 24 female Wistar rats, aged 10 -12 weeks and were randomly divided into 6 groups: N, positive control (PC: AIN-93M low iron food + elemental iron) and treatments (T1-4: AIN-93M low iron food + 0.26, 0.35, 0,5 or 0.75g/ 100g Body Weight (BW) Jamaican cherries fruits extract respectively for 28 days). Clinical manifestations, reflexes and behavior changes were observed at day 0, 14 and 28 interventions. BW data were analyzed using one way ANOVA and repeated measures ANOVA tests. All rats had normal reflexes and did not show clinical manifestations and behavior changes. The average of rat BW in T1-4 groups did not significantly differ before (p=0.896), during (p=0.884) and after treatment (p=0.775) but the average of rat BW in the T1 group increased significantly (p=0.012). In conclusion, administering Jamaican cherries fruits ethanol extracts up to 0.75g/100g BW has no toxic effects in female Wistar rats.  Abstrak: Anemia defisiensi besi (ADB) pada remaja putri merupakan salah satu masalah kesehatan yang menempati posisi ke-8 sebagai penyebab disabilitas tingkat global dan penyebab utama anemia pada ibu hamil. Abstract

The imbalance between food intake and energy expenditure can lead to obesity. Obesity is a major risk factor for chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease and can cause premature death worldwide. This study is aimed to investigate the effect of Star Fruit Leaves Extract (SLE) and T. accumulate Leaves Extract (TLE) combination on Body Weight (BW), Body Mass Index (BMI), and Fat Content (FC) of obese rats. Male Wistar rats aged 5 weeks, with BW of 100-150 g were induced with a High Fat Diet (HFD) and 10% fructose solution for 30 days. A total of 18 rats were randomly divided into 3 groups, namely Negative Control (NC), Therapy (T), and Normal (N). After 35 days of treatment compared to the NC group, the mean BW of the T group was significantly lower (p=0.014) and the mean decrease was significantly higher (p less than 0.001).  Similarly, the mean BMI and FC of the T group were significantly lower and the decrease in the mean of both groups was significantly higher than that of the NC group (p less than 0.001). Therefore, the combination of SLE and TLE can be used as a treatment for obesity because it reduces BW, BMI, and FC better than only a low-calorie diet.
