Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of multicultural group counseling integrated with the Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) approach in enhancing multicultural self-efficacy among Indonesian high school students. Using a mixed-methods method, nine students were selected through purposive sampling based on their willingness to participate, representation of cultural diversity, and absence of serious psychological concerns. They completed an eight-session YPAR-based group counseling intervention. Quantitative data were collected using the Multicultural Self-Efficacy Scale–High School Version (MSES–HS) and analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, and effect size calculations. The results revealed a substantial increase in multicultural self-efficacy (ΔM = 88.78), representing approximately 49.8% of the total scale range, with all five dimensions—cultural knowledge, cultural values, cultural awareness, communication, and flexibility—showing significant improvement (p < .01; r = .89). Qualitative data derived from reflection journals, focus group discussions, and facilitator observations indicated enhanced intercultural empathy, increased communication confidence, and a shift from passive tolerance to proactive engagement. These findings align with Bandura’s self-efficacy and social learning theories and Corey’s group counseling framework, which emphasize experiential learning, peer modeling, and reflective dialogue. The integration of YPAR into multicultural counseling not only demonstrated statistical effectiveness but also fostered agency, cultural identity development, and a more participatory school climate. This study offers a culturally responsive and scalable intervention model for inclusive education, particularly in multicultural contexts such as Indonesia.

Abstract

The widespread use of digital platforms among secondary school students has led to the emergence of Fear of Missing Out (FOMO), a social anxiety characterised by feelings of exclusion from enjoyable activities experienced by others. Social media features, such as daily stories and live streams on platforms like Instagram and YouTube, encourage students to follow trends. High levels of FOMO are associated with consumerist behaviour, where students purchase items they do not truly need simply to align with lifestyle trends or popular phenomena. This study aims to determine the correlation between FOMO and consumptive behavior among high school students in West Palu District. A total of 300 students were selected using purposive sampling, and the data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially through classical assumption tests (normality and linearity) and product moment correlation. The results showed that 68.66% of students experienced high FOMO, and 52.33% exhibited high consumptive behavior. Pearson's correlation analysis yielded r = 0.767 with p < 0.05, which is greater than the table r of 0.113, thus rejecting the null hypothesis and accepting the alternative hypothesis. These findings serve as a reference for counselors through classical guidance to explain the influence of social media algorithms and influencers, as well as through group counseling services for students with excessive impulsive tendencies. These services can help students shift from FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) to JOMO (Joy of Missing Out) in order to be wiser in their use of social media and consumption patterns.

Abstract

This study examines how teacher professionalism can be effectively enhanced through the development of a positive self-concept using a communication psychology approach. Conducted at SMP Negeri Kota Banda Aceh, the research addresses long-standing challenges related to low teacher motivation, seniority-based hierarchies, limited ICT competence, and weak collaboration between civil servant teachers (PNS) and non-permanent teachers (GTT). Using a qualitative design, data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation over a six-month intervention period focusing on interpersonal communication, small-group communication within MGMP meetings, and large-group communication led by the school principal. The findings show that communication psychology significantly improves teachers’ confidence, motivation, and willingness to engage in professional tasks. Teachers demonstrated increased digital competence, greater openness to collaboration, stronger reflective practices, and improved pedagogical initiative. The intervention also helped reduce social gaps between PNS and GTT teachers by fostering a more supportive relational climate. These results suggest that teacher professionalism is not solely a technical or administrative issue but a psychosocial construct shaped by relational support, communication patterns, and emotional validation. The study concludes that communication-based interventions can serve as effective strategies for professional development in schools with hierarchical cultures. Future research should employ longitudinal or mixed-method designs to examine sustainability and broader applicability.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of product quality, trust, and personal selling on customer satisfaction at Pegadaian Syariah Palu Plaza. This study is motivated by the importance of understanding the factors that shape customer satisfaction amidst increasingly fierce competition among Islamic financial institutions. The research method used is quantitative with an associative approach. The study population includes all customers of Pegadaian Syariah Palu Plaza in 2023–2025 with a sample of 100 respondents selected through accidental sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires that have been tested for validity and reliability, then analyzed using multiple linear regression, t-test, F-test, and coefficient of determination (R²). The results show that product quality, trust, and personal selling have a positive and significant effect on customer satisfaction, both partially and simultaneously, with an R² value of 0.661, indicating that 66.1% of the variation in customer satisfaction is explained by these three variables, while the remainder is influenced by other factors outside this study. Theoretically, these results reinforce service marketing studies that customer satisfaction is a combination of good product quality, built trust, and effective personal selling. Practically, these findings provide a basis for Pegadaian Syariah Palu Plaza to improve service quality, build trust through transparency, and optimize personal selling communication strategies to increase customer loyalty and satisfaction.

Abstract

This study implements a methodological triangulation approach for clustering highly skewed data using three algorithms with different paradigms: K-Means (partitional-based), Agglomerative Hierarchical Clustering with Ward Linkage (hierarchical-based), and DBSCAN (density-based). Applied to beef production data from 38 Indonesian provinces in 2024, the dataset exhibited extreme characteristics with a coefficient of variation of 171.89%, skewness of 2.87, and a maximum-minimum ratio of 664:1. Data were standardised using Z-score transformation to address scale differences. Evaluation using the Silhouette Score for K-Means and Hierarchical Clustering, alongside qualitative outlier detection with DBSCAN, revealed high consistency across all algorithms in identifying k=2 as the optimal structure, with a Silhouette Score of 0.9155. K-Means and Hierarchical Clustering produced identical groupings, separating three observations (7.89%) from 35 observations (92.11%), while DBSCAN confirmed this by explicitly labelling the three provinces as outliers. Robustness analysis via bootstrap resampling (100 iterations) demonstrated clustering stability with membership consistency of 99.7-100% and standard deviation of 0.0089. Sensitivity analysis validated the stability of outlier detection across the epsilon range 0.5-0.55. This research demonstrates that algorithmic triangulation provides robust cross-validation for data with extreme outliers, yielding consistent and stable clustering structures across sampling variation and parameter changes.

Abstract

The participation of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) remains shaped by complex social and structural factors. This study investigates public sentiment regarding the role of technology in supporting women’s participation in STEM through a machine learning–based sentiment analysis. Using 1,533 social media comments, sentiment classification was performed by integrating Support Vector Machine (SVM) and VADER-based automatic labeling, with imbalance handling to improve classification reliability. The results indicate a dominance of positive sentiment (98%), suggesting an optimistic tendency within the analyzed dataset, although this may be influenced by dataset characteristics and methodological bias. Among the evaluated models, a linear-kernel SVM achieved the highest accuracy (98.31%). This study contributes methodologically by demonstrating the effectiveness of integrating lexicon-based labeling with supervised learning for public sentiment analysis on gender equality in STEM, offering empirical insights to inform technology-driven policy interventions.
