Abstract

The community of the dayak Jangkang tribe has long used and cultivated various kinds of plants for food needs. However, the food plants used by the dayak Jangkang community have not been scientifically identified and documented in writing. The purpose of this study is to identify and document food plants cultivated in the dayak Jangkang community. The research method used is a survey. Data collection instruments include semi-structured interview sheets and field notes. The interviewees were 10 people. The technique of determining the source is using snowball sampling. Data analysis used descriptive qualitative which consisted of data collection, data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results showed that 39 types of plants were used and cultivated by the community of the dayak Jangkang as food. The recommendation from the results of this study is that the community continues to preserve and cultivate plants in accordance with local wisdom through written customary law and village regulations so that the existence of food plants is maintained.

Abstract

Persepsi peserta didik mengenai nilai dari pembelajaran sains secara langsung terkait dengan upaya dan keuletan yang ditunjukkan oleh peserta didik. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui sejauhmana persepsi mahasiswa dan dosen pada perkuliahan biologi khususnya pada mata kuliah Fisiologi Hewan. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kuantitatif dengan metode survei dan observasi. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Desember 2015 hingga Juni 2016 di Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Alauddin Makassar; UPRI Makassar, STKIP PI Makassar. Subjek penelitian adalah 349 mahasiswa biologi dan 46 dosen biologi. Hasil angket mahasiswa menunjukkan bahwa aspek percaya diri mahasiswa untuk aktif dalam diskusi kelas masih rendah dengan rata-rata perolehan 28.30%; keberanian mahasiswa dalam mengajukan pertanyaan/pendapat dalam diskusi kelas dengan rata-rata 28.70%; hanya sekitar 27.14% mahasiswa yang memiliki persepsi bahwa strategi belajar yang digunakan oleh dosen selama pembelajaran dapat membantu mereka dalam memahami materi Fisiologi Hewan; 79.61% mahasiswa beranggapan bahwa frekuensi penggunaaan metode ceramah oleh dosen sangat dominan dalam perkuliahan Fisiologi Hewan; Sekitar 55.39% dosen masih beranggapan bahwa mahasiswa sulit memahami materi jika tidak dijelaskan secara keseluruhan. Sementara itu, hasil angket dosen diperoleh informasi bahwa sekitar 47.65% dosen mengukur motivasi belajar mahasiswa dan 41.84% diantaranya mengalami kesulitan dalam mengukur motivasi belajar mahasiswa dalam proses pembelajarannya. Data ini kemudian menjadi komponen awal dan mendasar bagi peneliti untuk mengidentifikasi aspek keterbutuhan mahasiswa terhadap perbaikan proses pembelajaran biologi. Abstract

Dayak Jangkang people’s knowledge about the potential use of plants as medicine to cure internal diseases has not been found in the scientific literature. This research aims to record the types of plants (local name, scientific name, family), plant organs used, processing methods, specifications of plant benefits used by Dayak Jangkang people to treat internal diseases. The research approach used is qualitative descriptive. The data collection tool used is a semi-structured interview sheet. The informant who helped the research process was as many as ten people. Informant was determined using purposive sampling techniques. The data is analyzed descriptively based on interviews and literature studies. The results of the study were obtained as many as 34 types of plants that were used by the Dayak Jangkang tribe to treat internal diseases. The number of families used as many as 19, with the most families being Zingiberaceae.

Abstract

Keterampilan metakognitif dan minat baca akan dapat diberdayakan melalui model pembelajaran yang sesuai. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui 1) peningkatan minat baca dan keterampilan metakognitif melalui penerapan model pembelajaran Remap Think Pair Share, dan 2) hubungan antara minat baca terhadap keterampilan metakognitif pada pembelajaran Biologi berbasis Remap TPS. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pra-eksperimental dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif-korelasional. Data minat baca diperoleh dengan instrumen angket minat baca, sedangkan keterampilan metakognitif diukur dengan menggunakan rubrik yang terintegrasi tes esai. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: 1) adanya peningkatan sebesar 1,80% pada aspek minat baca dan keterampilan metakognitif sebesar 122,19% melalui penerapan Remap TPS; 2) tidak terdapat hubungan antara minat baca dan keterampilan metakognitif pada Remap TPS. Oleh karena itu, model pembelajaran Remap TPS dapat digunakan sebagai alternatif dalam meningkatkan minat baca dan keterampilan metakognitif jika dilakukan secara berkelanjutan.Kata kunci: Minat baca, keterampilan metakognitif, remap TPS Reading interest and metacognitive skills on biology course through remap think pair share model. Metacognitive skills and reading interest could be empowered through spesific learning model. This current study aims to investigate 1) the improvement of reading interest and metacognitive skills during the process of learning in Remap Think Pair Share learning models, and 2) the relationship between reading interest to metacognitive skills through Remap TPS learning models. This research was a pra-experimental study using descriptive-correlational method. Reading interest data was obtained by reading interest questionnaire instruments, while metacognitive skills were used by using an integrated rubric essay test. The results showed that: 1) the improvement by 1.80% for students reading interest and metacognitive skills by 122.19% through Remap TPS; 2) there was no relationship between reading interest and metacognitive skills in TPS Remap. Therefore, the Remap TPS learning model can be used as an alternative in empower reading interest and metacognitive skills when used sustainably.Keywords: Reading interest, metacognitive skills, remap TPS

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the metacognitive awareness of high school students in natural science learning based on gender. This research is a descriptive study with a sample of 24 students. Data on students' metacognition awareness was collected using the Metacognition Awareness Inventory (MAI) which was analyzed descriptively and statistically. The results showed that students' metacognitive awareness was categorized as good enough (1.33 < MA ≤ 2.33) and low (MA ≥ 1.33). Students' metacognition awareness was not significantly different in terms of gender (p> 0.05). Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that metacognitive awareness needs to be improved through good interventions in learning. Student gender differences need to be investigated further using a larger sample to obtain more relevant and comprehensive data on metacognitive awareness

Abstract

The environmental conditions which are becoming worse is the potential problems facing humanity. Many efforts have been made to reduce environmental damage, one of them is by instilling environmental awareness through education. This education can be done through the application of learning that capable of empowering students positive attitude towards the environment. The reality on the field, the student academic abilities level are very diverse,necessitating a study to assess the effect of student academic level toward the changes in students attitudes through learning process. This study aims to determine the effect of the variation of academic ability on the attitudes toward river ecosystem of high school students in the city of Malang. This study conducted in academic years of 2008/2009. The subjects in this study were high school students in Malang, and the samples are SMAN 2 Malang students from class X7 and X8 and SMA Laboratorium UM students from class X2 and X6. This study applied to the second semester of 10 th grade students on the topic of River Ecosystem. The data statistical analysis from this study showed that the probability of academic ability is 0.376 (bigger than 0.05), so that thenull hypothesis is accepted and the research hypothesis is rejected, which means academic ability had no effect on student attitudes on the ecosystem of the river. Thus, it can be concluded that learning processes that aims to empower student positive attitude on the river ecosystem can be applied both to students with high and low level of academic ability Keywords: academic ability, attitude, river ecosystem

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to improve the community’ skills of making batik jumputan through training of 21 PKK mothers at Sumbergempol District, Tulungagung Regency. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. Participants involved in this study were selected randomly (random sampling technique). Data collection techniques in the form of skills test making batik jumputan (paper based-test) conducted before and after training. Data analysis was performed using the calculation and categorization of N-Gain. The results showed that the training in making batik jumputan could improve the skills of PKK mothers at Sumbergempol District, Tulungagung Regency in the moderate (62%) and high (38%) categories.

Abstract

Trend of Learning of XXI century  is full of skills, one of skills is social skill. In fact, learning by rote is the most applicated in junior high school in Indonesia. One example of junior high school happened in VIIIB class of UM laboratory  school. Module system has been applying there. It causes individual learning so that reduces the social interaction and social skill. One of the solutions for this problem is TGT-GI strategy, it is included to cooperation model of learning.  This research is conducted based on lesson study class action. Aim of the research is to improve student’s social skill by application of TGT-GI strategy in VIIIB Class of UM Laboratory Junior High School. The results of this research shows the average of student’s social skills was 19,34 % increased. In wich 32,44 in the I cycle and 38,71 in the II cycle. Based on this result, it was clocluded that TGT-GI strategy able to improve student’s social skills in VIIIB Class of UM Laboratory Junior High School.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the differences in students' reading interest in biology learning models based on remap CIRC, GI, and TGT. It is a quasi-experiment implemented in Public High School N of Malang, Indonesia and Public High School S of Malang, Indonesia in the odd semester of 2014/2015. The research population was all students of 10th grade of Public High School of Malang, Indonesia. The sampling technique was random sampling. The research sample consisted of 10th-grade science 1 of Public High School N of Malang, Indonesia, 10th-grade science 2 of Public High School N of Malang Indonesia, and 10th-grade science 1 of Public High School S of Malang, Indonesia as an experiment group; and 10th-grade science 3 of Public High School N of Malang, Indonesia as a control group. The analysis was carried out in a quantitative. The result showed that the CIRC remapping learning model had the greatest influence on students' reading interest compared to GI and TGT. The students’ reading interest scores using remap CIRC, GI, and TGT models were 82.90, 76.23, and 80.49. Remap CIRC, GI, and TGT model should be applied in biology learning because it can empower students' reading interest.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate students' understanding of the nature of science (NOS) in project-based learning combined with mind mapping (PjBL-MM), students' NOS understanding across gender, and PjBL-MM and gender interaction's effect on students' NOS understanding of conservation education. It employed a pretest-post-test non-equivalent group design. The research population consisted of first-year students at the Biology Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Negeri Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia. Thus, the study consisted of 98 students (40 males and 58 females) selected randomly from three different classes. The students' NOS understanding was assessed using the views of NOS type B questionnaire. The learning models' effectiveness was tested using ANCOVA. The results showed a significant difference in students' NOS understanding, PjBL-MM group reported the highest NOS score among all treatment groups in the Conservation education course. There is a significant difference NOS understanding between male and female students. Females outperformed males in NOS understanding. However, PjBL-MM and gender interaction did not affect students' NOS understanding. This study is expected to encourage the implementation of PjBL-MM to improve the students' NOS understanding. The educators are also expected to empower NOS understanding through students' active participation in science by implementing project-based learning combined with mind mapping techniques.
