Abstract

Science education at the primary level plays a critical role in fostering students’ higher-order thinking skills, particularly their problem-solving abilities. However, many elementary students continue to face challenges in developing these competencies, leading to generally low levels of performance. This study investigates the effectiveness of the Eco Explorers educational game in enhancing the problem-solving skills of fifth-grade students within the topic of ecosystems. A pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was employed, involving 25 participants selected through a non-probability sampling technique. Data were collected using observation sheets and standardized problem-solving tests, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired sample t-tests, and effect size calculations (Cohen’s d) with SPSS version 26. The results revealed a statistically significant improvement in students’ problem-solving abilities (p = 0.000 < 0.05), with a large effect size (Cohen’s d = 2.55). These findings reinforce previous studies highlighting the benefits of game-based learning for cognitive development. In conclusion, the Eco Explorers game is a highly effective instructional tool for improving students’ problem-solving skills in science education, particularly within ecological contexts. The study implies that incorporating interactive digital games into science instruction can significantly enhance student engagement and higher-order thinking, ultimately supporting more meaningful and effective learning experiences in primary education.

Abstract

The livelihood of the residents of Towua Village is generally farming, including both pond farming and rice field farming. Towua Village has a pond area of 585.69 hectares used for milkfish farming. Discussions with the village head revealed that the productivity of the community-owned ponds is still very low because they are managed traditionally. This issue also affects the Harapan Jaya Bandeng Farmers Group. One possible solution is to implement or apply technology to help improve the quality of the ponds. The solutions to address the partner's problems include increasing the supply of natural feed through organic farming systems, improving pond management and governance, and providing business management training. These solutions are implemented using a holistic and multidisciplinary research-based approach to achieve farmers' welfare and village economic independence. The method used in this activity is the action research approach. The results of training, assistance, and monitoring of pond quality have led to an 80% increase in partner knowledge, an 80% increase in partner skills, a 60% increase in partner accessibility, and a 50% increase in partner income.

Abstract

Despite the growing emphasis on differentiated instruction in modern education, there remains a noticeable gap in research examining the integration of Technological, Pedagogical, and Content Knowledge (TPACK) with professional competence, particularly within the context of Indonesia's Merdeka Curriculum. This study aims to assess teachers' levels of TPACK and professional competence in developing differentiated instruction in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, while exploring the correlation between these two variables. Adopting a quantitative correlational research design, the study employed stratified random sampling to select a sample of 84 teachers from eight elementary schools currently implementing the Merdeka Curriculum (Independent Learning Curriculum). Descriptive statistics and hypothesis testing, using the Spearman-Brown formula, were utilized for data analysis. The findings indicate that the participating teachers exhibit moderate levels of both TPACK and professional competence in developing differentiated instruction. Moreover, hypothesis testing revealed a strong and significant correlation between teachers' TPACK and their professional competence in designing differentiated instruction. This research highlights the importance for teacher training institutions to prioritize the development of TPACK, enabling educators to effectively adapt to evolving educational policies.
