Abstract

This study examines the integration of ethnoscience into Environment-STEM learning in elementary schools in Pacitan Regency from an Islamic education perspective. Using a qualitative case study in ten public and Islamic elementary schools, data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation and analyzed interactively. The findings show that local wisdom was transformed into Environment-STEM modules through Batik Pace, Wayang Beber, and local traditions, while Project-Based Learning promoted contextual and environmental problem solving. Islamic education served as a pedagogical framework by integrating the values of khalifah fil ardh, amanah, ihsan, and mizan into learning objectives, instructional strategies, and assessment. The study proposes a novel Environment-STEM pedagogical model that advances environmental literacy, scientific literacy, sustainable character, and culturally responsive education.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the implementation of differentiated natural science instruction for slow learner students at Giwangan Elementary School (a public school in Yogyakarta) as part of an effort to promote an inclusive and adaptive educational environment. A qualitative research approach was employed, involving classroom observations, semi-structured interviews with teachers and support staff, and document analysis to gather comprehensive data on instructional practices. The results indicate that teachers conducted diagnostic assessments to determine individual learning needs, which guided the development of tailored teaching modules utilizing visual media such as images, educational videos, and flashcards. Instruction was delivered through personalized and interactive strategies, supported by classroom and shadow teachers. Evaluations were adapted accordingly, with standard written assessments for regular students and image-based tests for slow learner students. The findings suggest that the success of differentiated instruction is closely tied to teacher competency, the involvement of Special Assistant Teachers, and the principal’s inclusive policies. However, the study also identifies key challenges, including limited preparation time for lesson adaptation, a shortage of support personnel, and budgetary limitations that affect access to adequate learning resources.  In conclusion, differentiated learning strategies can effectively support slow learner students when implemented collaboratively and systematically. The implication of this study is the need for increased institutional support, targeted teacher training, and policy reinforcement to sustain inclusive practices and ensure equitable learning outcomes for all students.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Instructional leadership by school principals is a strategic approach to improving the quality of learning through strengthening teacher capacity, utilizing school data, and managing programs sustainably. This study aims to describe the implementation of instructional leadership by the school principal in improving Education Report Card outcomes and to identify its supporting and inhibiting factors at SDN 002 Balikpapan Selatan. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving the principal, teachers, and school personnel engaged in quality improvement programs. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model through the stages of data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification, while data credibility was strengthened through source, technique, and time triangulation. The findings indicate that instructional leadership was implemented through the use of the Education Report Card in Data-Based Planning (PBD), continuous academic supervision, teacher professional development through In-House Training, learning communities, mentoring, and strategic school resource management. These practices were associated with improvements in Education Report Card indicators and the school's consecutive receipt of Performance-Based School Operational Assistance (BOS Kinerja) in 2023 and 2024. Supporting factors included school-wide collaboration, learning resources, funding support, and a positive school culture, while the main constraints involved differences in teacher competencies, limited time, and suboptimal follow-up of training. These findings emphasize the importance of data-based instructional leadership in sustaining school quality improvement. ABSTRAK Kepemimpinan instruksional kepala sekolah menjadi salah satu pendekatan strategis dalam mengarahkan peningkatan mutu pembelajaran melalui penguatan kapasitas guru, pemanfaatan data sekolah, dan pengelolaan program secara berkelanjutan.
