Abstract

This study investigates JKT48 fans' reception of feminine codes in a music video, using John Fiske's semiotic analysis and Ien Ang's reception theory. The research offers insights into how fans interpret media texts. Four feminine codes, based on Angela McRobbie's framework, are identified: romance, domestic life, fashion and beauty, and the pop star persona. The romance code depicts women concealing relationships, while the domestic life code portrays them as passive partners. The fashion and beauty code highlights sexualized appearances, and the pop star code presents JKT48 members as glamorous figures. Fan interpretations vary according to their background, knowledge, and media exposure, with some seeing gestures as seductive, while others perceive them as familial. Same-sex relationships are viewed through a heteronormative lens, with fans identifying dominant-passive roles. Future research could adopt a positivist paradigm to examine the broader influence of JKT48 content on regional fandom's attitudes and behaviors.

Abstract

Saipul Jamil was officially released from prison for child sexual abuse and bribery. This moment drew controversy because the media violated ethics by glorifying the freedom of child sexual abuse perpetrators without thinking about the victims’s trauma. Mass media need to pay attention to journalistic ethics as a guideline in directing the behavior of journalists in carrying out their duties. This study aims to reveal how Tribunnews.com framed the news of Saipul Jamil's freedom. Media frequently have perspectives, ideologies, and media agendas in creating certain frames that influences the audience's perception. The researcher selected 10 news articles from Tribunnews.com from September 2 until 3, 2021. This study's research approach was the framing analysis developed by Zhongdang Pan and M. Kosicki which is classified into two concepts, psychological and sociological. The results of this study found that Tribunnews.com tends to use psychological framing. Journalists can accentuate the more favorable aspects and hide the detrimental aspects. The framing structure in the form of syntax, script, thematic, and rhetoric leads to glorification by highlighting the artist Saipul Jamil, indicated by photos and details of Saipul Jamil's freedom. Tribunnews.com emphasizes Saipul Jamil's freedom, ranging from ceremonies, activities to be carried out, career plans after release, to his experience in prison. This is influenced by capitalistic ideology and celebrity culture to attract audiences and generate as much profit as possible. Because, celebrity life is still a favored topic for the general public. The news of Saipul Jamil's freedom caused pros and cons from various parties and offended Saipul Jamil's victims. Therefore, Tribunnews.com violated article 2, which states that journalists are obliged to consider whether the news should be delivered, so as not to trigger social unrest or offend certain parties. In addition, Tribunnews.com also violated article 5, which state that journalists should be balanced and fair as much as possible, and prioritize accuracy over speed in presenting news. Tribunnews.com tends to present events from one party in order to deliver news quickly to the public

Abstract

The beauty of women in Indonesia is very diverse, but society has the view that the standard of beauty for women is white skin, slim, thin, no acne, straight hair, and must have body goals, which gives rise to body shaming, bullying, even infidelity and can cause mental health disorders. Music can be a creative means to express feelings of happiness or sadness. Tutur Batin by Yura Yunita tells about the life process of women with their own problems and how they can accept themselves. The object of this research is the representation of women's self acceptance in the song Tutur Batin. The researcher uses qualitative methods as a research approach and uses Paul Rice's text hermeneutics methodology. This research uses standpoint theory, representation, self-acceptance, radical feminism, music, new media, and filmic aspects. This research has three research processes through grammatical analysis, semantic analysis, and text interpretation. Research findings in the song Tutur Batin include four stages of disappointment, toughness, sincerity, and self-acceptance. The results of research into the representation of the song Tutur Batin are that the women in the song Tutur Batin are finally able to accept themselves through various problem processes. Then they remember that there are still people who care about them and they meet women who do not have appropriate beauty standards and they exchange stories so that it opens their minds that they have to love themselves with what they have and there are still people near them who still care about their situation, such as the siblings and children they have.

Abstract

Suicide is still considered a taboo topic for discussion, and victims or survivors of suicide often face negative stigma from society. This stigma can be formed or reinforced through media reporting, which serves as a primary source of information. Reporting on suicide attempts and actions that is not handled carefully can also trigger copycat suicide phenomena among vulnerable groups, particularly adolescents. Adolescents and young adults are the most at-risk population for suicide. Detik.com views suicide as an important issue to address, but it is crucial to pay attention to the quality and ethics of reporting, especially in relation to the sensitivity of journalists toward suicide reporting ethics. This study aims to analyze how Detik.com frames its reporting on suicide and to identify potential ethical violations in the coverage of suicide actions and attempts among adolescents. One article published during the period of January 2023 to December 2023 was selected based on three dominant narratives and analyzed using the Zhongdang Pan and Kosicki framing model. This analysis includes four elements: syntactic structure, script structure, thematic structure, and rhetorical structure. The theory used in this research is the Social Responsibility Theory and the Ethical Guidelines for Suicide Reporting. The results of the study show that there are seven frames used by Detik.com in reporting on suicide victims, namely: (1) a quiet person, (2) someone experiencing romantic issues, (3) someone who is always determined to die and lacks consideration, (4) experiencing depression or mental disorders, (5) displaying strange and puzzling behavior, (6) suicide victims by hanging, and (7) suicide victims by jumping. Ethically, the frequently violated points are points 1, 4, 9, and 14 from the Suicide Action and Attempt Reporting Guidelines from the Press Council. These violations indicate that the news is presented sensationally, spreading myths about suicide, stigmatizing the victim, and providing excessive detail about the suicide event.

Abstract

During the reform era, the word “decentralization” was often associated with the television broadcasting system in Indonesia. Decentralization is the transfer of responsibility from the ruler at the center to a lower unit. However, in the broadcasting industry, the concept of decentralization is also often associated with the network station system in Law Number 32 of 2002 concerning Broadcasting. This research aims to find the meaning of decentralization contained in the legal framework regarding broadcasting, namely in Law Number 32 of 2002 concerning Broadcasting and Law Number 11 of 2020 concerning Cipta Kerja. The method used in this study is Wilhelm Dilthey hermeneutic analysis through five analysis techniques, namely grammatical analysis, semantic analysis, and text meaning analysis. The word "decentralization" does not appear explicitly in the regulation regarding broadcasting. However, this study found that the meaning of decentralization appears implicitly in Law Number 32 of 2002 concerning Broadcasting and Law Number 11 of 2020 concerning Cipta Kerja. Broadcasting decentralization appears in regulation that discuss KPI Daerah at the regional level, the establishment of network station systems, ownership and control, and the ideology contained in the two laws. This study finds that the meaning of broadcasting decentralization is not only contained in the regulations regarding the network station system, but also in the regulation regarding KPI, ownership and control, broadcast content, and broadcasting licensing. However, in its development and implementation, these regulations do not run as they should in the broadcasting industry in Indonesia. This is because the existing regulations have not expressly regulated the decentralization of broadcasting, thus providing a loophole for broadcasting operators not to implement these regulations. As a result, the broadcasting industry in Indonesia is increasingly centralized, especially in terms of bureaucracy regulated in business licensing Article 72 number 3 of the Cipta Kerja Law. Negative implications not only appear in the field of bureaucracy, but also result in the centralization of ownership and broadcast content that ignores local interests.

Abstract

Abstract

This research is based on the existence of Semarang City Punk Community which actively displays symbols in their events by members of the Punk Community. This study aims to analyze the formation of symbols and also the experience of members of the punk community in using their symbols. This research was conducted qualitatively with a phenomenological approach. The data used in this study were data from in-depth interviews with a number of informants. The informants in this study had the criterion of being members of the punk community who actively used punk community symbols. Analysis in this research will be carried out using Social Identity Theory, Identity Communication Theory, and Symbolic Interaction Theory. With a phenomenological approach with Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), research results will be obtained through a review of the patterns and final themes obtained. The results showed that the emergence of symbols was due to the unrest of corrupt government and defending the interested that was felt mutually by members of the Punk Community. This anxiety is generally conveyed through music, namely in song lyrics. In addition to music and songs, the symbols used by members of the punk community are conveyed in various forms such as black shirts, mohawck hair, boots, and other attributes. Each of these symbols has a collective meaning that members of the punk community themselves believe in. The collective meaning that members of the punk community widely believe has the meaning of resistance to a corrupt government. Furthermore, it was found that not only through songs, but punk ideology was also conveyed through fashion, attributes, and action. In the experience of using these symbols, receiving bad views from around is common for members of the punk community, including being scapegoats, difficult to gain trust from sponsors, being considered riotous, and so on. But this did not reduce the intensity of the use of symbols by members of the punk community despite being overwhelmed with mixed feelings of pride, happiness, and sadness. This feeling is based on a bad stigma and a pride for them to keep using their symbols and prove the opposite.
