Abstract

This article is a result of an early study of the finding of ancient coins in Gambangan site, Bondowoso Regency, East Java. Based on the findings of the ancient coins and other artifacts, it is assumed that Gambangan site contains a small numbers of archaeological data and its distribution is limited as well. Gambangan site is supposed as a simple settlement site or non permanent settlement site closely related to Majapahit Kingdom. An early study on Gambangan site has described the potentials of the findings in academic field and in the utilization of development such as research materials, education materials and as part of tourist development.

Abstract

Artifacts, such as ceramics, potteries, and 18 propstones are found in the vicinity of Chandi Sanggar. By analyzing the propstones, it turned out that they have many varieties on the size, and the technology. It is remarkable to observe that the surface of the propstones showed variants: smooth, rough, and the combination of it, whereas their size are also different: big, medium, and small. The differences are related to the structure of Chandi Sanggar, since the propstones were found in context with it. Therefore it can be concluded that Chandi Sanggar was a compound, consisted of the main chandi and several supporting buildings.

A question often raised on metal sculpture made by Trowulan artists is: do iconometric aspects of the sculptures follow the iconometric order? Studies on iconology, including iconographic and iconometric studies, are important in Indonesian archaeology. Iconometric study on metal sculptures made by Trowulan artists is an example for iconometric study in Indonesia.

Abstract

Archaeological research in Losari Temple site also implicates how the site should be developed. There are three frameworks: research framework, educational framework, and tourism framework. Research framework is related to Losari Temple and how its information or its data may support archaeological research or other disciplines. A framework for education is related to how the information may support educational program. In the framework for tourism there are four most important aspects: how to preserve the site, how to present the information, how to manage the access and accomodation, and how to promote the object.

Abstract

The scope of public archaeology is indeed very broad, but the focus remains the same, namely how to 'spoil' the public for archaeological interests. Spoiling the public means also presenting various information generated by archaeologists according to their needs, in accordance with the developing framework and interests, including when the public is having a trend in "abnormal" photographic artwork that is infrared photography.

Abstract

As a cultural heritage, Kotagede in Yogyakarta, which was built in the sixteenth century, is within the framework of conflict. It is a fact that baluwarti as the physical boundary of the city and the most important part of its time is gradually disappearing. On the other hand, the development of the archaeological discipline has actually placed this kind of issue as part of its study. In this case, the political and public context are also positioned as stakeholders of cultural heritage, and not merely oriented to the academic context. Perhaps a theoretical, philosophical, and historic framework is needed to see how the walls of the Kotagede fortress are gradually being destroyed.

Abstract

The secondary system context is the BCB (heritage) that applies in today's society's life system. This phenomenon becomes interesting because the "utilization" of BCB by the community today is different from the "utilization" referred to in the concept of Cultural Resource Management (CRM). The first may be categorized as traditional use, while the second (CRM) is a planned use (managed) with a broader function, for example as a tourist object (economics), education (ideology), or for the development of science (academics).

Abstract

The background for contributing ideas to the concept of the "Kedulan Site Conservation Plan" is partly based on the fact that this site is not only important for archaeologists or other academic circles, but to some extent also has important meaning for other circles, including the government, local communities, and society in a broad sense. Technically, the Kedulan (main) temple is already in the "ready to restore" stage after since 1993 intensively researched and carried out reconstruction efforts. Therefore, the proposal to preserve this site through a concept needs to be supported by many parties.

Abstract

The Trowulan site in Mojokerto Regency, East Java, is one of the important sites that is utilized both ideologically, academically and economically at the same time. Since Wardenaar, who was assigned by Sir Thomas Raffles to observe ancient relics in Mojokerto, and in 1815 succeeded in making documents in the form of pictures and descriptions, the urge to research this site is getting bigger, even today. One of the striking results of the research is that the archeology is very closely related to the Majapahit Kingdom, the last Hindu work in Java which flourished from 1293 to 1478. In particular, the various scattered relics indicate that Trowulan was an ancient city. Not only that, other archaeological activities, namely conservation, are also being carried out to this day.
