Abstract

Low motivation and student learning outcomes in research methodology courses. E-modules can greatly increase student motivation and learning outcomes in research methodology courses. This study aimed to increase the motivation and learning outcomes of cosmetology and beauty students in research methodology courses by implementing interactive electronic modules. This research is quasi-experimental with a pretest-posttest control group design with research subject students in research methodology courses. Data was collected using instruments like closed questionnaires, open questionnaires and tests. The data analysis used was quantitative descriptive analysis, discriminating power analysis using the T-test and qualitative descriptive analysis. The results of this study illustrate an increase in student motivation by 10.17% in the experimental class using the interactive e-module, while the control class using the printed module only increased by 2.08%. The results of the t-test showed that there was a significant difference in the experimental class, while the Sig (2-tailed) value in the control class proved that there was no difference. The e-module is proven to increase student motivation and learning outcomes significantly, and the module can be used to learn research methodology.

Abstract

The phenomenon of cyberloafing, where individuals engage in non-work-related online activities during productive hours, has become increasingly prevalent, particularly among students. This study investigates the impact of cyberloafing on students' learning processes, aiming to fill a research gap in understanding its effects on academic performance and classroom dynamics. A quantitative descriptive approach was employed to gather data through a questionnaire completed by 69 students selected via simple random sampling. To complement the quantitative data, qualitative insights were obtained from interviews with five randomly selected students. The survey explored the frequency and nature of cyberloafing activities, variables promoting such behavior, and its impacts. Analysis of the questionnaire data revealed that students engage in cyberloafing more frequently during classroom activities than during informational or leisure activities. Many students perceive cyberloafing as a means to alleviate classroom boredom. Interview findings indicated mixed outcomes: while some students reported reduced tension and boredom, others did not perceive any benefits and even noted a decline in productivity and focus. This study contributes to the existing body of knowledge by highlighting the dual nature of cyberloafing's impact. While it can serve as a coping mechanism to mitigate boredom and stress, it also has the potential to detract from academic performance. Understanding these dynamics can help educators and policymakers develop strategies to manage cyberloafing, promoting a more balanced and productive learning environment.

Abstract

Skin problems, especially on the face, are often considered to diminish appearance and require significant expense. However, caring for the face with natural ingredients is safer because they are free of chemicals. The natural ingredient in question is papaya seeds, which contain the enzyme papain, which can prevent wrinkles, minimize pores, and moisturize the skin. Besides being a food ingredient, black sticky rice can also benefit skin beauty by slowing premature aging, thanks to its high antioxidant and anthocyanin content, vitamin E, and fiber. This study aims to determine the physical properties of papaya seed and black sticky rice masks, including color, aroma, texture, and panelist preferences. This is an experimental study with papaya seed and black sticky rice masks as the subjects. This quantitative study used experimental methods. Data collection methods included observation and panelist preferences for color, aroma, texture, and adhesive power. Two cosmetology and beauty lecturers, along with 10 female students from the University of North Sumatra (UNP), studied the color, aroma, texture, and adhesiveness of the masks. The results of the study showed that using a papaya seed and black sticky rice mask effectively treated dry skin. The skin exhibited a gray color from the mixture of papaya seed powder and black sticky rice, a fragrant and pleasant aroma, a very smooth texture, and good elasticity, feeling firm and supple.
