Abstract

Marine waste along the southern coast of Java, Indonesia, presents a critical environmental issue caused by ocean currents, tourism, and local industrial activities. This accumulation disrupts marine ecosystems and threatens the livelihoods of coastal communities. The lack of accessible and efficient waste management systems exacerbates the problem, highlighting the need for innovative solutions to foster community involvement and environmental awareness. To address this challenge, this study introduces a waste bank application prototype designed specifically for the region using a design thinking approach. This methodology involved five stages: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test. Data collection included interviews and surveys with local stakeholders, which identified key needs such as waste accumulation tracking, incentive-based participation, volunteer coordination, and environmental education for children. These findings guided the development of features like a contribution-based incentive system, event coordination, and a game to teach waste separation to younger users. The prototype underwent independent testing to evaluate its usability and effectiveness. Results demonstrated that the application successfully enhanced community engagement, offering a user-friendly platform that combines waste management with education. The inclusion of real-time tracking and rewards motivated active participation, while the educational game increased awareness among children. This study underscores the importance of collaborative, user-centered technology in addressing environmental challenges and provides a scalable model for sustainable waste management in coastal regions.

Abstract

The Discovery Learning (DL) paradigm is a learning approach that encourages students to independently discover knowledge and concepts through active engagement in the learning process. This approach has been widely applied in various teaching methods, particularly in Indonesian language learning. However, traditional teaching methods, such as lectures, are still frequently used in many classrooms, where the teacher plays a dominant role and minimally involves students actively. As a result, students lose interest and enthusiasm for the material being taught and are less engaged in the learning process. The implementation of the Discovery Learning model provides opportunities for students to be more active in the learning process, thereby supporting the successful achievement of learning objectives. This study aims to analyze how the Discovery Learning approach can improve elementary school students' reading comprehension skills. The approach used in this research is a literature review of previous studies published in the last five years.A total of 15 relevant articles were collected and analyzed to gain insights into the effectiveness of this learning model. The results of the review indicate that Discovery Learning can enhance student engagement, build better reading comprehension, and increase students' interest in learning. Therefore, Discovery Learning is an effective learning model to be applied in Indonesian language learning at the elementary school level.

Abstract

This study discusses the potential of zakat as an alternative source of financing for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) from a sharia economic perspective. Zakat not only functions as a religious obligation, but also an economic instrument that supports community empowerment, especially MSME actors. In the Indonesian context, the MSME sector plays a strategic role in economic growth, but often faces financing constraints from formal financial institutions. This study examines the extent to which productive zakat can support MSMEs through the distribution of business capital, skills training, and capacity development. Based on library research methods, it was found that although zakat has great potential to strengthen MSMEs, its implementation still faces challenges, such as less transparent management and less than optimal coordination between stakeholders. This study recommends more professional zakat management, increased coordination between zakat institutions and the government, and training for zakat recipients so that its impact is more sustainable. By optimizing the use of zakat, it is hoped that MSMEs can develop inclusively, while supporting national economic growth.

Abstract

The ability to solve problems is very important for students to engage in the process of learning mathematics. In this study, students' ability to solve mathematical problems will be studied using Polya's indicators. The purpose of this study is to characterize the ability of grade IX Junior High School students to solve mathematical problems directly. The type of research conducted here is descriptive qualitative research. The subjects used in this study were about thirty students from State Junior High School 25 Pekanbaru for the 2023/2024 academic year in Class IX.3. Data collection was carried out by giving a validated test instrument, which was then sorted based on the mathematical problem-solving ability test scores. The data analysis technique used the Miles and Huberman model, namely data reduction, data analysis, and data estimation. The results of the analysis for each indicator of mathematical problem-solving ability reached an average of 38.325% and fell into the low category because many students solved the problem of integer material not by the stages of the indicator and errors were found in students' answers. Based on these results, it can be concluded that students' mathematical problem-solving skills are classified as weak/low.

Abstract

Background Although the prevalence of stunting in South Sumatera is estimated to be relatively high, there have been few studies to date on stunting and the factors associated with it in the region. Objective To determine the proportion of stunting in infants and toddlers aged 3-59 months at Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital (RSMH), Palembang, South Sumatera, and to identify medical and non-medical factors associated with stunting in these children. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted at RSMH from April to September 2023. Stunting was defined according to the WHO standard and combined with a growth pattern that reflects chronic malnutrition. We recorded the proportion of stunting as well as data on several potential medical and non-medical risk factors of stunting. Results A total of 183 subjects met the inclusion criteria. The overall proportion of stunting was 65/183 (35.5%). The proportion of stunting was higher in boys (39.6%) and in children <2 years of age (38.2%). Medical risk factors significantly associated with stunting were infectious disease [OR 4.13 (95%CI 1.91 to 8.94); P=0.001] and chronic disease [OR 3.02 (95%CI 1.56 to 5.85); P=0.001]. The only non-medical factor significantly associated with stunting was low paternal education level [OR 2.45 (95%CI 1.17 to 5.15); P=0.016]. Conclusion During the study period, over a third of pediatric patients at RSMH experienced stunting. Infectious disease, chronic disease, and low paternal education level were significant risk factors that contributed to the occurrence of stunting.

Abstract

The rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in education has transformed how students learn, particularly in fostering self-regulated learning (SRL). However, understanding the mechanisms and conditions under which AI adoption influences SRL remains underexplored. This study investigates the roles of achievement goals, cognitive load, personalized learning, students' adaptability, and AI competence in shaping SRL within an AI-enhanced educational framework. The research employs Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with the Partial Least Squares (PLS) approach to analyze direct, mediating, and moderating effects while accounting for demographic controls such as age, gender, internet access, and environment. The findings reveal a complex interplay of factors. Direct effect testing showed that five hypothesized relationships, including the influence of achievement goals, cognitive load, personalized learning, and students’ adaptability on SRL, were unsupported. Mediation analysis confirmed that AI adoption significantly mediates the effects of achievement goals, cognitive load, and personalized learning on SRL, emphasizing the role of technology acceptance in enhancing learning autonomy. Moderation analysis identified that AI competence strengthens the relationship between achievement goals and SRL but does not moderate other interactions, such as those involving AI adoption or cognitive load. These results underscore the nuanced dynamics between cognitive, technological, and motivational factors in AI-enhanced learning. The study contributes to the growing literature on AI-driven education by highlighting the pivotal role of mediating variables like AI adoption and the limited yet strategic influence of AI competence. Future research should explore broader contextual and pedagogical factors to optimize the integration of AI tools in fostering self-regulated learning

Abstract

Abstract The use of natural ingredients in cosmetics has become a global trend as public awareness of the importance of environmentally friendly and health-safe products increases. In Indonesia, with its rich biodiversity, traditional cosmetics made from natural ingredients such as aloe vera, turmeric, honey, coconut oil, and bengkuang have strong cultural roots and promising market potential. These ingredients are known for their benefits in skin and body care and minimal side effects. However, challenges remain, including safety risks due to the lack of standard testing, quality variations, and non-compliance with regulations. This study reviews the benefits, safety, and regulations related to the use of natural ingredients in cosmetics. Although natural cosmetics offer a healthier alternative compared to synthetic products, attention to safety testing, product stability, and information transparency is very important. Regulation by supervisory bodies such as BPOM is key to ensuring the quality and safety of traditional cosmetic products. With the right scientific approach and adherence to global standards, natural ingredients in cosmetics can contribute to sustainable product innovation, support the preservation of local culture, and enhance competitiveness in the international market.   Keywords: Natural ingredients, traditional cosmetics, cosmetic safety, preservation of local culture
