Abstract

Those in the art and design field, such as graphic designers, should be creative and inspired, and they usually have their own ways to be creative. Yet, some designers are considered to be so outstanding that they receive such recognition in their creative process. One of them is Milton Glaser. He has been considered one of the first rank designers for decades. Therefore, it is really appropriate and wise for young designers to recognize Glaser’s creative process in order that they could learn and be inspired by his experience. This study focuses in the examination of Milton Glaser’s creative process gained from interviews conducted by the media. The short-term goal of this study is to learn the creative process of a design expert, which hopefully would inspire and open the mind of young designers in their work. After gaining inspiration from this creative process, hopefully the young designers would be much more creative and easily inspired in developing their idea, which is the long-term goal of this study.

Abstract

Abstract

With the increasing demand for electricity and environmental concerns related to the use of fossil fuels, the need for renewable energy solutions is becoming increasingly important. The potential of hydropower generation needs to be harnessed for daily electricity needs. The proposed system harnesses the flow of water in irrigation channels, using turbines made of galvanized plates and plastic to generate electricity for small-scale applications such as street lighting. To overcome the challenges of manual monitoring, especially during the rainy season, an IoT-based monitoring tool is included. This tool allows remote tracking of system performance, including generator output, battery voltage, and load current, through an internet-connected smartphone interface, allowing for real-time monitoring. Laboratory and field tests were conducted in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The system demonstrated the ability to produce stable voltage and power, achieving an efficiency of 11.38%. The system demonstrated a data transmission delay of 5.64 seconds via Blynk, with a recorded power consumption of 2,231 watts. The sensor readings showed high accuracy, with generator voltage accuracy of 99.33% and load current accuracy of 99.26%.

Abstract

The tensile testing machine is a device used to characterize the mechanical properties of materials. Most tensile testing machines currently available are designed for high-capacity applications, such as testing metals and concrete, making them less suitable for testing composite and plastic materials. Therefore, a small-capacity tensile testing machine that is more flexible and efficient is needed for testing and educational purposes. This study aims to develop and improve the performance of a small-capacity tensile testing machine by enhancing its control system and human interface. Improvements include increasing the displacement sensor sensitivity from 200 mm to 50 mm, using a load cell with a more appropriate capacity (reduced from 2 tons to 1 ton), and adding a data logging feature via USB in text format. The test results indicate that the developed system is capable of performing tensile tests in accordance with ASTM D638 standards, with higher accuracy compared to the previous version. The implementation of the new control system also enables better data recording, thereby enhancing the machine's reliability as a tool for education and research.
