Abstract

Thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) is a constellation of symptoms caused by compression of nerve and blood vessel between the first rib and clavicle that can cause pain, numbness or tingling, early fatigue, cold fingers and bluish color. In doing their job, sand miners often lift heavy load with poor postures, repetitive movement that will cause local mechanical stress which can result in thoracic outlet syndrome.  The purpose of this study was to analyze the relation between weight of load, lifting frequency, work posture with thoracic outlet syndrome complaints in the traditional sand miners of Banjarparakan Village. This study was a quantitative research with cross sectional study approach. The sample was the entire population of 33 traditional sand miners in Banjarparakan Village. This study using Roos Test to find out incidence of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS), floor scale to measure weight of load, and Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) to measure work posture. Based on statistical test using Fisher Exact, there was association between weight of load (p-value = 0,005), lifting frequency (p-value = 0,016), and lifting activity work posture (p-value = 0,036) with thoracic outlet syndrome complaints and there was no relation between pouring activity work posture (p-value = 0,257) with thoracic outlet syndrome complaints. The traditional sand miners should stretch before and interrupted during their work.

Abstract

Abstract: Two of thirds of accident cases are caused by Human Error. Human Error is very closely related to the actions taken by humans. Humans have limitations on their capacities such as seeing, paying attention, remembering, processing, and acting in a relevant manner that influences the decision making process of each individual and contributes to accidents with varying degrees of severity. One of them is in the automotive industry that requires high accuracy and accuracy in work and has the potential for danger both from environmental factors, tools, and management guidelines in pursuing production targets. The purpose of this research is to analyze the relationship between the factors that cause human error in the event of an accident to a technician at automotive company X, Semarang. This research is a quantitative study using an analytic observational study design and cross sectional approach. The population in this study were 44 technicians. The sampling technique used is total sampling technique in which the number of samples studied is equal to the existing population. Based on the Chi-Square statistical test results obtained that there is no relationship between threats (0.667> ρ value), situation awareness (0.088> ρ value), and action error (0.284> ρ value) with accident events. The biggest contribution to the main causes of accidents is teamwork, misunderstanding, and misinformation done by technicians.

Abstract

The Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) is an urban mass and fast transit transportation system based on electric rail, which is characterized by its ability to carry large volumes of passengers quickly. In its operational service activities, the Jakarta MRT can experience a fire emergency situation. Therefore, a fire emergency response system is needed as an effort of occupational safety and health management in preventing and overcoming fire emergency situations that may occur. This study aims to analyze the fire emergency response system in the Jakarta MRT. This type of research is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. The data were collected through direct observation and organized online in-depth interviews involving 4 main informants and 2 triangulation informants. The result of this study shows that the Jakarta MRT has a fire emergency response system that includes the fire emergency response policy, fire hazard identification, emergency response team, fire protection systems, life-saving facilities, fire emergency response training, emergency communications, fire safety inspection, fire emergency response procedure, investigation and report, and fire safety audit. However, there are still fire protection systems at the station and in the train that are not available and not in accordance with the applicable standards such as the fire control center, fire elevator, yard hydrant, sprinklers, fire extinguishers, smoke control system, firefighter access, and emergency safety hammer. The researcher suggests the Jakarta MRT provide fire protection systems that are not yet available and adjust the fire protection systems in accordance with applicable standards of laws and regulations.
