Abstract

Values and behaviours denote cultural strengths that help communities effectively adapt and succeed in dealing with disasters. The present work used a qualitative approach and was designed as a case study, to identify social values and behaviours in the context of community resilience during the Covid-19 pandemic. We recruited five informants and obtained data through interviews and observation. The results showed that community resilience emerged from a sense of belonging to the group (i.e., the residents) and its members. The residents have inherited social values and behaviours that have long lived in the community, which render them resilient against the Covid-19 pandemic. Such values include cooperation, deliberation, and harmony with nature, whereas the social behaviours manifest in obedience and prosocial neighbourhood. The implication of these findings is a hope that the residents can build community resilience. The residents may initiate such joint effort from the hamlet or village environment where they can build community resilience by developing social values and behaviours that grow in the community.

Abstract

Sugarcane bagasse, as lignocellulosic biomass waste, has great potential for producing bio-oil through pyrolysis, which is the process of converting biomass into bio-oil, biochar, and gas. However, the main challenge in bio-oil production is reducing oxygen content and improving its quality. Therefore, this study evaluates the effect of temperature and catalyst use on bio-oil yield from sugarcane bagasse pyrolysis. The method used was a literature review, collecting quantitative data from various relevant studies on sugarcane bagasse pyrolysis and its operational conditions. The results showed that a temperature of 500°C yielded the optimal bio-oil yield of 60.4%, with higher temperatures increasing calorific value but reducing oxygen content. Additionally, the use of a catalyst can reduce oxygen content and improve bio-oil quality. In conclusion, temperature and the selection of the appropriate catalyst play a key role in improving the quality and efficiency of bio-oil production from sugarcane bagasse, which can support efforts toward transitioning to more sustainable energy sources.

Abstract

The problem of fossil energy crisis and the increasing carbon emissions have encouraged the search for environmentally friendly alternative energy sources, one of which is through the utilization of biomass into solid fuels such as bio-char. This study aims to optimize the pyrolysis process conditions to produce high-quality bio-char from Acacia crassicarpa bark, a lignocellulosic waste from the forestry industry. The pyrolysis process was carried out in a batch reactor with variations in temperature (400–500°C), residence time (30–60 minutes), and NiMo/NZA catalyst concentration (2–6%) as independent variables. Optimization was carried out using the Response Surface Methodology approach with a Central Composite Design experimental design to obtain the optimum conditions. The results showed that the optimum conditions were obtained at a pyrolysis temperature of 400°C, residence time of 30 minutes, and catalyst concentration of 2%, resulting in a bio-char yield of 33.8% with a desirability value of 0.876. Meanwhile, the highest calorific value of 28 MJ/kg was achieved at the same temperature with a residence time of 90 minutes. This value exceeds the minimum standard for solid fuels according to the International Biochar Initiative and the European Biochar Certificate, which are generally in the range of >20–25 MJ/kg. Thus, the resulting bio-char not only has potential as an alternative energy source but also meets quality standards as an efficient and sustainable solid fuel.

Abstract

The enactment of Presidential Instruction Number 1 of 2022, on Optimizing the Implementation of the National Health Insurance Program, introduces a requirement for proof of National Health Insurance (BPJS Kesehatan) participation from all citizens during land rights transfers. This study examines the legal implications of this instruction, focusing on its validity, relevance, and social impact on public access to land rights. Employing a doctrinal approach, the research involved legal document reviews, policy analysis, and interviews with relevant stakeholders. The findings indicate that mandating BPJS membership as a condition for land transfer registration is legally invalid, irrelevant, and conflicts with Indonesias constitutional hierarchy. This inconsistency leads to legal uncertainty and undermines the principle of orderly regulation, creating overlapping regulations, unclear authority between the National Land Agency (BPN) and BPJS Kesehatan, and potential institutional conflicts. It increases administrative burdens that could restrict citizens access to legitimate land rights. Overall, the study argues that this instruction risks undermining legal hierarchy and good governance principles, which could adversely affect public access to land and hinder effective policymaking. It highlights the importance of understanding Indonesias legislative hierarchy to prevent policies from disrupting existing legal structures. To mitigate these issues, it is recommended that the government revise Presidential Instruction Number 1 of 2022, ensuring alignment with legislative hierarchy, and foster dialogue and collaboration among relevant institutions for the development of comprehensive, non-conflicting policies.

Abstract

Abstract

The ban on the use of antibiotic growth promoter as feed additives in livestock has created a need for safer and more accessible antibiotic alternatives. One promising alternative is moringa (Moringa oleifera Lam.). Moringa leaves have the potential to serve as natural antibiotics that support digestive health and the function of visceral organs. This study aimed to analyze the performance of visceral organs following the administration of moringa leaf powder as a feed additive at various concentrations. Thirty female quails were divided into five treatment groups that received 0%, 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, and 10% moringa leaf powder in their feed, with six replications per group. The quails were culled at 106 days, and their visceral organs including proventriculus, ventriculus, intestines, liver, pancreas, and heart were isolated and weighed. Data were analyzed using ANOVA at a 5% significance level. The results showed that moringa leaf powder supplementation significantly increased pancreatic weight, but did not produce significant differences in the weight of the other visceral organs. It can be concluded that the use of moringa leaf powder as a feed additive has a positive impact on increasing pancreatic weight and helps maintain the weight of the proventriculus, ventriculus, intestines, liver, and heart.

Abstract

The performance of LiFePO₄ (LFP) cathodes was successfully enhanced by incorporating two types of graphene obtained through green and low-cost liquid shear exfoliation processes. Commercial LFP was combined with few-layer graphene (FLG) and very few-layer graphene (VFLG), with compositions ranging from 0-4 wt.%. LFP, LFP/FLG, and LFP/VFLG, were characterized using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), charge–discharge (CD), XRD, FTIR, and FESEM–EDX. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were further employed to probe the electronic structure of LFP and an idealized LFP(001)/pristine-graphene interface as a baseline model for interfacial electronic coupling. DFT indicated interfacial charge redistribution and the emergence of C-2p π-derived states near the Fermi level, resulting in bandgap narrowing relative to pristine LFP and suggesting an additional electronic percolation pathway at the interface. Experimentally, EIS showed that VFLG reduced charge-transfer resistance and increased effective electrochemical conductivity, while FLG addition was associated with improved interfacial charge-transfer behavior inferred from EIS. CD tests at 0.5 C showed that the 4 wt.% FLG and 4 wt.% VFLG electrodes delivered the highest specific capacities of 29.98 mAh/g and 44.66 mAh/g, corresponding to increases of 81.9% and 170.5% compared to bare LFP. XRD and FTIR confirmed that LFP phase integrity was maintained, and FESEM–EDX revealed a uniform particle distribution with well-dispersed graphene networks. Overall, these results demonstrated that shear-exfoliated graphene effectively improved electronic connectivity and charge-transfer behavior in LFP cathodes, supported by consistent electrochemical measurements and electronic-structure insights from DFT.
